I get the distinct feeling you don't like 1920's. Maybe its the subtle way you smashed it with a sledge hammer. Not sure but have a good idea. Lol seriously I drive a 72 Dart more door with a /6 which has a 1920. It cold starts and runs like a top, takes throttle with no hesitation on acceleration and restarts instantly. Couldn't ask for more. I have rebuilt it a time or two. the biggest issue's I have found is the metering block corrode and the base plate wearing out. I've rebuilt a bunch of these with good success. Maybe that's why I'm parcel to the Holley. Love your Videos and your sense of humor. keep up the good work.

I felt exactly the same way about the Holley 2280 that came on the '87 D150 I used to have. Such a piece of garbage. I rebuilt/replaced it I forget how many times, when all along I should've just bolted on a Carter BBD. Still have the original BBD on my '70 D200 and it runs flawlessly.
@DeadDodgeGarage8 ай бұрын
Oh yeah. The BBD is my spirit animal. That’s why I like the BBS - it’s the same unit, but half as much.
@patricklynch19628 ай бұрын
I had exactly the opposite experience with Carter BBDs and Holley 2280's. After many frustrating rebuilds and replacements of my '68 BBD, I swapped it out with a Holley 2280 I rebuilt for my '68 Fury VIP and it's been trouble free ever since. Might have just been luck of the draw, both of my 318 cars are running 2280's.
@briane.56568 ай бұрын
@@patricklynch1962 Interesting. Part of the problem with mine I think is I kept on getting water in the gas tank, and that kept on corroding up in the bowls and around the needles in the Holley. Final straw was the plastic accelerator pump shaft breaking when I was trying to replace the seal, I bought one last rebuilt unit, put it on, and sold the truck. (I was planning to sell the truck anyway, this was just confirming it was time)
@patricklynch19628 ай бұрын
@@briane.5656 My BBD carburetors tended to need to have the throttle shaft bushed which left me with a big vacuum leak and crappy idle and no fun at stop lights. Went through a bad run of floats. If I had BBDs that were in better shape by the time I got them, I probably would have felt differently. All the carb shops near where I live are all gone and no one seemed interested in doing the bushing job for my lowly BBD. My '79 Dodge St. Regis came with a Holley 2280 and I drove it a long time before I had any trouble with it. Got a kit from Mike's Carburetors that would handle the ethanol and had no trouble with it after that. The Holley I got for the Fury was one of those Autoline rebuilt carbs that I had to rebuild to correct a weird bit of cobbling with the accelerator pump linkage. Got a parts carb for the linkage and another carb kit from Mike's for the better gaskets and a electric choke kit since my original choke for the BBD wouldn't hook up to the Holley. All has been well since.

Well… here you are! So it worked out. Haha. All of the worst running slants I’ve ever had the displeasure of dealing with had 1920s on top. They never idle right. They’re just the bane of my existence.

Jamie those 1920 aren’t to bad. Don’t get so frustrated eat some Tacos my friend. Enjoy your Videos. And by the way put lots of salsa.

Hell I could definitely use a taco about now… I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again - I’ve seen one 1920 that ran really well. One. And then there are the rest of them… they’re just the worst.

I side with jamie on this one. The 1920 on my '63 Savoy is junk and always has been.
