I get the distinct feeling you don't like 1920's. Maybe its the subtle way you smashed it with a sledge hammer. Not sure but have a good idea. Lol seriously I drive a 72 Dart more door with a /6 which has a 1920. It cold starts and runs like a top, takes throttle with no hesitation on acceleration and restarts instantly. Couldn't ask for more. I have rebuilt it a time or two. the biggest issue's I have found is the metering block corrode and the base plate wearing out. I've rebuilt a bunch of these with good success. Maybe that's why I'm parcel to the Holley. Love your Videos and your sense of humor. keep up the good work.

I felt exactly the same way about the Holley 2280 that came on the '87 D150 I used to have. Such a piece of garbage. I rebuilt/replaced it I forget how many times, when all along I should've just bolted on a Carter BBD. Still have the original BBD on my '70 D200 and it runs flawlessly.
@DeadDodgeGarage
@DeadDodgeGarage 8 ай бұрын
Oh yeah. The BBD is my spirit animal. That’s why I like the BBS - it’s the same unit, but half as much.
@patricklynch1962

I had exactly the opposite experience with Carter BBDs and Holley 2280's. After many frustrating rebuilds and replacements of my '68 BBD, I swapped it out with a Holley 2280 I rebuilt for my '68 Fury VIP and it's been trouble free ever since. Might have just been luck of the draw, both of my 318 cars are running 2280's.
@briane.5656
@briane.5656 8 ай бұрын
@@patricklynch1962 Interesting. Part of the problem with mine I think is I kept on getting water in the gas tank, and that kept on corroding up in the bowls and around the needles in the Holley. Final straw was the plastic accelerator pump shaft breaking when I was trying to replace the seal, I bought one last rebuilt unit, put it on, and sold the truck. (I was planning to sell the truck anyway, this was just confirming it was time)
@patricklynch1962
@patricklynch1962 8 ай бұрын
@@briane.5656 My BBD carburetors tended to need to have the throttle shaft bushed which left me with a big vacuum leak and crappy idle and no fun at stop lights. Went through a bad run of floats. If I had BBDs that were in better shape by the time I got them, I probably would have felt differently. All the carb shops near where I live are all gone and no one seemed interested in doing the bushing job for my lowly BBD. My '79 Dodge St. Regis came with a Holley 2280 and I drove it a long time before I had any trouble with it. Got a kit from Mike's Carburetors that would handle the ethanol and had no trouble with it after that. The Holley I got for the Fury was one of those Autoline rebuilt carbs that I had to rebuild to correct a weird bit of cobbling with the accelerator pump linkage. Got a parts carb for the linkage and another carb kit from Mike's for the better gaskets and a electric choke kit since my original choke for the BBD wouldn't hook up to the Holley. All has been well since.

Hats off to that guy that does the thing in the editing room he has skills. The mechanic has anger management issues and shows his love of 1920 carbs and I concur it was a fitting end for it. However I would have melted down the pieces so it could never go christine and come back to life.😂 it runs and drives now and will get a tank so it's a car again. Wonder where the hood hinges will appear from and in its trail I in my level of stupid have donated a day to making right rocker repair and quarter. Why I have no idea I hate that ugly thing. Call it an act of kindness to Vic. 😢 when that crowbar broke my face it broke my brain or was it the 3 point landing on the concrete not sure I was asleep at the time.😅 nevertheless best video ever Jamie ❤

My first Valiant was a 1964 AP5 valiant with that Holley back in late 73 never had a problem . The real problem is you’re born in the wrong era and these carbs are very old now . We were driving hot 🔥 Val’s before you were born all styles of hot 6 / to Ma MOPAR V8 s of all style even polys that would smoke the tyres with ease 5/ 6 car length no problem . Yep even big blocks have been my go here in 🇦🇺. What’s my point those Holleys worked well in there day as you weren’t around sorry things wear out . Anyway most of our slants ended up with 350 Holleys and many other modes . You will have to answer to MA MOPAR on this damage may she have mercy on your MOPAR Heart ❤️ . 👍🏻🇦🇺😀.

Many, many other carburetors from this era have stood the test of time. The Carter BBS and BBD, for example - in spite of their ubiquitous worn out throttle shafts, I can always get them to run well. The Carter four barrels from this time are still awesome today. Heck, I’ve even had good luck getting the much-derided Thermoquad to work. But the 1920… no. The 1920 is garbage, and I don’t regret giving this one what it deserved!
