I had the same thing happen with the clutch disc springs in my 68 charger, I had the Borg & Beck pressure plate too, after researching why the springs were hitting the flywheel bolts I learned that they had a bigger diameter than the original springs that go with the Borg & Beck pressure plate. Really glad you pulled the original engine in the Demon, now you can get nasty with it without worrying about damaging the original!👍
@DeadDodgeGarage Жыл бұрын
Damn right! Let’s see if I can find 6000+ RPM now! 😅 yes they are definitely larger diameter springs, but that flywheel is missing at least 1/8” of material off of the face. That could be a problem.

Thanks for reminding me about drag racing. I still need to reset the pinion angle on my Dart
@DeadDodgeGarage Жыл бұрын
Mine has angle shims on it. I should probably at least verify that it’s right-ish. I dropped my snubber to get that out of the floor, hoping that doesn’t result in too much pinion rise. Lots of testing to do here… and a lot to learn.

Has to beat the 9.13 I got the first time out. Haha. It’s kind of funny when you roll up to the line, they ask where your helmet is and you tell them you don’t need one 😅 the car ran high 11 quarter mile times in the 70s. If I can whittle it down to anything approaching a comparable 1/8th time (upper 7s,) I’ll be extremely excited. Ultimate speed isn’t the goal as much as fun, but I know the car is capable enough.
@rodneybyrd9516 Жыл бұрын
I know you changed the flywheel with a 360 unit, those things used to be very difficult to find and expensive as hell, so we used to drill the 318/340 flywheels according to the Direct Connection manual. Pretty tricky laying it out (degrees and radians) to center punch, and the depth needs to be precise. Never had vibrations or #5 bearing issues, luckily.
@DeadDodgeGarage Жыл бұрын
Right. I have heard of that but have never had to do it. I actually have a factory one (it’s a rust factory and has some hot spots) as well as the aftermarket unit I used which had a bolted on weight. I also have one of those sandwich weight plates to use with a neutral flywheel if necessary. We have lots of options these days. Haha.
@rodneybyrd9516 Жыл бұрын
@@DeadDodgeGarage Luckily I have a KwikWay wet grinder here at the shop, and a bead blast cabinet. I saved a couple of 11" BB flywheels that way. The 10.5s are so cheap, I just go new on them usually. I did score a 5.9 Magnum 10.5" unit off Ebay a while back, just in case!!

Imagine that,340 to 360 and you can't tell the difference, oh yeah,the color.😂 Made quick work out of that with a little help. Nice. Enough talking, back to work on my 73 charger.
@DeadDodgeGarage Жыл бұрын
Fine, fine 😅 no one has called me out for putting a red engine in it yet. Kind of surprised by that, really. But yeah, they essentially look identical. I could just lie and tell everyone it’s still a 340, and they’d never know.
@OrrinCahoone-dd4tm Жыл бұрын
Most of your followers seem not to be so critical. I thoroughly enjoy what you do. Keep it up, good job. Good choice on shitcanning those marine 440 pistons,only 8.5 compression on those motors.
@DeadDodgeGarage Жыл бұрын
@@OrrinCahoone-dd4tm for what we're doing, 8.5:1 would be acceptable. They're going in the scrap pile because they're ruined... We will be putting in a taller (but not domed) KB piston, and hopefully ending up somewhere in the 9.5:1 range.

I've had nothing but problems with roller rockers for my 410 magnum. I feel for you
@DeadDodgeGarage Жыл бұрын
I hope they’ll work well now that I’ve gone through them. One just can’t trust aftermarket parts to be good to go out of the box. If I have problems, I’ll put a set of stock adjustable 273 arms on it. The rollers are nice but I’m more concerned with valve float than anything.

@DeadDodgeGarage Жыл бұрын
Yes I liked that accidental ceiling shot a lot. Haha. Hell yeah! If I have any problems with the roller rockers I will go right to factory 273 rockers too. I actually considered putting a 273 in the Demon - I thought it would be really fun to dress it with edelbrock heads (valve clearance in tops of cylinders probably required) and other great parts to see what it can do. That could happen eventually. Or heck, maybe that goes in the Barracuda to be era correct and SEGA legal…

I would have if I were overhauling the suspension, but you have to disconnect brake lines, unhook upper arms, and remove torsion bars and steering column, which is a whole lot more than I had time for and would basically start the setup on the front end over at zero. I’ve done the dance pulling it out the top of an A body so many times, it’s kind of my happy place. Notice we didn’t remove or so much as kiss the hood. Haha.

@@DeadDodgeGarage Good point!! A little jockeying, but I guess it’s less to dismantle. My Dart had a 440 in it, so there was absolutely no way it was coming out from the top. I replaced it with a 360. Omg, so much room now!! Lol!!

It’s wearing some Mickey Thompson ET Streets. But they’re getting a little long in the tooth… I may be tire shopping in the near future. I also definitely have a lot of practice in my future. @DeadDodgeGarage Жыл бұрын
It’s a thumpr around 515/525 lift if I remember correctly. The heads got matching springs, a mild clean up porting job, port match, and a three angle valve job. There are more details on the engine in the build video - the name is something like building a 360 in a shed - and in the last video on the “Garbage Can Cuda.” I can tell you it definitely seems to have more poop than the 340 I took out.
