I love the conservationist approach of the Australians! Starting with Steve Irwin, and continuing with Tim Faulkner and the Bondi vets we are taken to the creatures and provided education and information that is always interesting and motivating.

Tim is such a enthusiastic wildlife carer who educates with love, passion and compassion, especially for the Devils who face so dangers if becoming instinct. As well as the menge problem with the wombats and the I think its chlamydia for the cute Koalas 🐨 Every wildlife has it's issues all over the world but Australia has a lit more. I love the fruit bats who are dealing with habitat destructions, humans who throw nets over their trees where they get tangled up in, the same with fence wire, electric fences and poles, certain illnesses, concussion and pets like dogs who like to tear into them. So many orphans every year and even the orphans sometimes won't make it, it's so sad 😞 Thankfully there are ppl who care for them, but not enough if course !!!

Thank you so much for your Wild Life series - I'm learning so much about animals that I don't particularly like and as I watch the various episodes, I get to understand these animals !!! I would love to hear news about "Atomic Betty"..... BTW I am "snake-phobic" - I love animals, even lizards and venomous frogs - I've tried, but no way .....

When you were doing snake training and you talked about how the levels change when going from death adder to king brown to tiger snake can you do a segment on dealing with say King cobras or black mambas to see how you go about handling them
@heathergarnham9555
@heathergarnham9555 3 жыл бұрын
Not Aussie snakes, the snakes they are milking are Australian snakes and so they need to make anti venom for local snakes. No point milking snakes who don't live in the area and no anti venom is required.

Why only milk the snake once? If it never release all their venom at one go
@LeniAnnorlunda

Maybe to keep the snake as calm as possible? Milking it might increase stress, i have no idea, just guessing.

I think it is because you cant force it to do so, the first time it will bite out of anger and defence, the second time it wont.
@JustAnotherBuckyLover
@JustAnotherBuckyLover 3 жыл бұрын
THat's literally why they keep the snakes in the tanks in that room. To repeatedly milk them. But you have to give it time between milkings to replenish their venom supply and not to stress them out too much. They usually don't just milk then once, if they can help it.

I would think the first place they keep antivenom ready to go would be at the milking stations. Questions: Do the devils in the wild just start gnawing on live wallabies or are they carrion eaters? I hope it's the latter. Are the quolls just as nasty as the devils?
@JustAnotherBuckyLover
@JustAnotherBuckyLover 3 жыл бұрын
Devils aren't nasty. Why would you say that? They're just beautiful animals living in their niche. Yes, they do hunt sometimes, usually smaller things like frogs, birds, insects etc, but they prefer to scavenge if they can. Do you think tigers or lions are nasty too? Quolls are also carnivores who mostly hunt the same kind of things as Tassies - small mammals, amphibians, lizards, insects etc. And you can't just give antivenom and be done, it has to be given at the hospital along with other medical treatment like pain medication, fluids, medication to stabilise the blood pressure, heart and/or prevent blood clotting, perhaps even advanced life support, ventilation etc, and perhaps even surgery to cut away the dead and dying tissue from the bite itself - the exact treatment depends on the snake. They also don't make the antivenom themselves, they get the snake venom but it has to be used to make the antivenom elsewhere.

What is the evolutionary purpose of evolving venom so strong it can kill 88 people? The tiger snake isn't that big; what does it eat?
@marthahawkinson-michau9611
@marthahawkinson-michau9611 3 жыл бұрын
I have often asked this same question myself. I definitely don’t understand why. Is it for defense purposes against something highly resistant to venom? Or is their primary prey species just harder to kill than what one might think?
@heathergarnham9555
@heathergarnham9555 3 жыл бұрын
It needs to be able to kill instantly, food is very scarce especially in the outback, so they need to be able to kill their food quickly so it doesn't escape.
