A bit more info on the Tenerife airport disaster as an airplane nerd myself: the reason the klm pilot took off is because he said that he was ready to take off, the atc said, ok, stay there, I’ll clear you, be advised, at the same time, the pan am pilot said, we’re still taxiing down the runway, and because everyone was using the same radio frequency, all the klm pilot heard was ok, so they decided to take off, the first officer showed some concern, but the pilot took off anyway

Fun fact that im sure many people know (Im being serious): what made the Titanic situation especially bad was that there were SEVERAL man made issues that led up to the sinking and people dying: the keys for the binoculars the scout was meant to use were all the way back in the place the Titanic left from, which wouldve helped the Ships scout see the iceberg quicker, and there were deliberately less lifeboats than needed. Why? Because of the ultimate issue that led to the tragedy: pride and arrogance. That belief that the Titanic was unsinkable led to a few of the issues that led to the iceberg sinking. That and no one reading the book written prior where a ship called the Titan was touted to be unsinkable... only to sink on its maiden voyage. Ironic. And those were just a few of the issues
@avi.avi.Avi-AviАй бұрын
Not to mention that SS Californian had a chance to help, but didn't. The Titanic fired distress rockets as it began sinking. These were visible to the crew of the Californian. The Californian’s officers, including Captain Stanley Lord, saw the rockets but misinterpreted them as "company signals" (routine signals between ships) rather than distress flares. Also, it was ordered to warn the titanic about the icefield, however the operator on the ship didn't do so because he needed to take care of passenger communication. Captain Lord did not take immediate action despite reports of rockets. He claimed he was unaware they were distress signals. The crew debated the meaning of the flares but did not investigate further, thus the incident well, took place.

As far as I know the use of lifeboats was different back then. They were supposed to bring people from a sinking ship to a rescue ship, unload there and head back to the sinking ship to repeat that. Also the suggested lifeboat capacity for ships over 10000 tons was 16 so the Titanic had even more lifeboats than suggested ( I believe ).

Things about the Titanic segment that this video got wrong: 1. The White Star Line, the shipping company who owned the Titanic as well as her sister ships Olympic and Britannic did not ever state that the ship was unsinkable. It was only a single newspaper who reported that the ship was “practically unsinkable” due to all the new safety measures added to the ship to prevent it from sinking in case a disaster did happen, but not to the extent as seen when it struck that iceberg. 2. Although it was probably included as a joke, Rose and Jack were not real people. They were fictional characters in the 1997 movie. 3. Even if the binoculars were taken aboard the ship, it wouldn’t have been helpful in spotting the iceberg as a phenomenon known as the Cold Water Mirage was taking place, which causes visibility around where the phenomenon is happening to dramatically decrease.

@LancashireAndYorkshireАй бұрын
@@fahadmunir83 That's not true at all and here's why: 1. Everything aboard the two was stamped with a yard number. Wooden panelling, propellers, furniture, everything. Switching the ships would mean switching all of these items. 2. Olympic and Titanic were only docked together in Belfast between March 1st and March 6th. It would have been impossible to move everything over in that time frame. 3. Olympic and Titanic were slightly different in construction, most notably the A Deck promenades. Titanic featured an enclosed A Deck promenade while Olympic's was open to the air. In addition, Titanic had a different layout in her Turkish Bath, additional B Deck staterooms, a Café Parisian and extended bridge wings. Once again, the required modifications to switch the ships could not have been performed in the 5 days they were together in Belfast.

Warning bit of a long comment. Its a story about my trips to Chernobyl. Ive gone to Chernobyl a couple of times and its the most eerie and sad places ive ever gone to. And thats saying a lot ive gone to Hashima island, Fukushima, Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Auschwitz. When i went there you are recommended to wear a hazmat suit but its not mandatory but any clothes/ items you have on you need to be disposed of as soon as you leave the zone. I went all through the exclusion zone i when through Pripyat, the Red Forest and even went into the powerplant which was so cool. Its weird to think that Nuclear Powerplants can use computers so weak in power that all of the computers in the control room are weaker in power to most vintage computers. I even got the privilege to go into Reactor 4's control room and you have to wear a hazmat in there. As soon as i entered my Geiger counter started going haywire. The Scam button which was the button that made history by causing the control rods the jam was gone but i could just feel the weight and history in that room. The other most radioactive place i went was the Hospital basement that still has all the contaminated firefighter gear my Geiger counter had a aneurism when i entered there. I also went to the Claw of Death again the Geiger counter had a seizure. I could go on and on the Ferries wheel, Scrap/Train yards and The Red Forest all made my Geiger counter go off the rails but in Chernobyl your Geiger counter is never quite you will always hear it ticking away just showing how radioactive it still is and that the 20 000 years of radiation making it uninhabitable is true and you can see it with your own eyes and ears. I also got to go to Chernobyl-2 which is a military base/town with giant radars and sensory arrays to detect missiles classic cold war stuff it even filled with communist propaganda to complete the soviet aesthetic. I had a picture book filled of photos from around Pripyat and Chernobyl before the disaster and man does 30 years do something to a place. My guide was a former resident of Pripyat his father was a firefighter and liquidator he passed away due to radiation poisoning his older brother actually worked in Reactor number 2 and 3 he also helped in clean up efforts and died due to radiation sickness due to his liquidator work. His Older Sister was a nurse at the Pripyat hospital and also died curing sick firefighters after getting radiation sickness from them. My Guide showed me the in's and out of Chernobyl and Pripyat he showed my his old primary and high schools he showed me the Azure pool the Amusement park the Stadium, the Hospital he even showed me his family's apartment and his friends apartments. He told me that most of his friends and love ones are either dead or dying of cancer due to the disaster. And he told me the magnitude of the disaster and how it ripped lives apart. You really cant get a feel of scale for how big it is until a survivor tells you first hand what happened. Its a giant city but its a ghost town and you think 30 years ago this place was bustling with life but within 48 hours of something it became a ghost town. Its super eerie being there I took a ton of photos of the place me and my Guide became pretty good friends and i even learnt Ukrainian just so we could speak 50% Ukrainian and 50% English. Chernobyl and Pripyat are still one of my favorite places to visit but due to Russia invading Ukraine i have not been able to visit my Friend of go to Ukraine for any matter of a sort. As soon as that Wars over im going to visit him since the last time i say him face to face was in late 2021 in his house in Slavutych which was a town made to house the citizens of Chernobyl and Pripyat after the disaster. I heard it has not been damaged much and since the last time i called him he seemed to be doing pretty well but i pray it stays that way.

Grimm fact about Chernobyl: The radiation has spread even to Ireland, affecting the dairy production there and contaminating a lot of milk. Mexico learned about all that milk that was literally about to be littered and decided it was a good idea to import all that cheap waste milk and give it to the people. Now there's the CONASUPO milk disaster, a crime against the people of Mexico. Side note: Brasil and Argentina learned about that contaminated milk and warned Mexico against importing it.

I remember seeing the Tenerife Airport disaster on a show called Air Disasters on the Smithsonian Channel. I remember some of the details very clearly, one of the crew in the cockpit was coming back from teaching pilots of the airline by which he was employed, and had only heard "Okay" from the tower on the radio followed by about 3-4 seconds of static as the taxiing plane sent a transmission while the tower was still talking. The returning cockpit crewman fell back on flight sim habits and took the okay as a go-ahead to begin takeoff, and proceeded to push the throttles to takeoff despite the protests of the pilot _and_ copilot, which were quickly quelled by a glare from the returning crewman.

Fun Fact: If the Titanic had hit the iceberg head-on, it likely wouldn't have sunk. The ship's design featured watertight compartments that could keep it afloat even if some were breached. A head-on collision would have caused more localized damage to the bow, preventing multiple compartments from flooding. This would have reduced the amount of water entering the ship, possibly allowing the Titanic to stay afloat and avoid the catastrophic sinking that occurred when it struck the iceberg at an angle. Also The MV Wilhelm Gustloff was a German military transport ship that sank on January 30, 1945, after being torpedoed by the Soviet submarine S-13 in the Baltic Sea during the final months of World War II. The ship was overcrowded with around 9,400 passengers, including civilians, soldiers, and refugees fleeing the Soviet advance in East Prussia. After being struck by three torpedoes, the Gustloff sank within 45 minutes in freezing waters. Over 9,000 people perished, making it the deadliest maritime disaster in history. Contributing factors included overcrowding, inadequate lifeboats, and the frigid temperature of the sea, which led to rapid hypothermia for those who ended up in the water. Only around 1,200-1,300 survivors were rescued. The sinking remains a largely overlooked tragedy, overshadowed by other events of World War II.
@rhyusbrand8311Ай бұрын
Some forensic scientists actually believe if they hit head-on, the shock from the impact would’ve warped the ship’s frames and bulkheads, allowing more water in and also jamming the watertight doors open, being unable to close, resulting in a FAR shorter sinking and amount of lives lost.

I’m about to nerd out about the Chernobyl disaster: 1. The man in charge that day thought something was wrong in the reactor, there’s a bunch of rods in the reactor, he ordered most or all of them to be pulled out and put back in to hopefully cool the reactor down. This dude did the right thing but it unfortunately didn’t help in the end. And also only 30 people died from the actual explosion most of the deaths were from radiation exposure. 2. The Soviet Union was so proud of their achievements that they were scared to the world about what happened. They didn’t even tell first responders what happened until about 12 to 24 hours after the explosion. It took nuclear power plants in other countries to figure out that the radiation they were receiving was not from them. They then started trying to figure out where this radiation came from, it took other countries for the Soviet Union to take responsibility for the disaster. 3. Some places in the Chernobyl area will not be inhabitable for MILLIONS if not BILLIONS of years. I will also explain why; there’s three types of radiation, Alpha radiation, Beta radiation, and Gamma radiation. Alpha radiation can be stopped by a sheet of paper, Beta radiation you need a little more protection, clothing can stop Beta radiation. And Gamma radiation can penetrate through almost anything. In the explosion it was a mix of all three types of radiation, but the places that will not be inhabitable for millions of years are mostly gamma rays. It was thought back in the 80s that lead could stop gamma rays, which did help but as the suits of the cleanup crews weren’t completely lead most still got affected. Gamma rays also literally cut through the DNA. Most people who died from radiation exposure were exposed to mostly Beta or Gamma particles. But kids could be killed by just Beta particles. Also I am sorry about the really long comment I just thought to add some key details that were left out in this video.

@ActrosTechАй бұрын
9:20 - Safety protocol violations weren't the only issue in this event, the reactor itself was basically built with bare minimum requirements, and ontop of that - reactor's core had a flaw which lead to a dangerous steam generation feedback loop. Although event was catastrophic - it gave alot of crucial scientific data that otherwise wouldnt be possible given overall effects of it around the world. 10:02 - the "20000 years" number is Plutonium-239's decaying period (a.k.a half-life) and its just a shy over 24000 years, however - it is not the main cause of radiation hazards in Chernobyl as people might think, but Cesium-137 thats spreaded wide around the zone in a form of dust, and its half-life is only 30-ish years, and from practical standpoints - after just about 10 decay periods (or roughly ~300 years) - Cesium should decay to reasonable levels, means after 300 years - it has a chance to be habitable again, also ontop of that - wildlife is thriving in there with little to no effects whatsoever.

Chernobyl Disaster Facts: People brought their kids onto a nearby bridge (or strip of land, not totally sure) to watch which caused those people to be exposed to radiation The firefighters weren’t told that it was contaminated by radiation and went inside The reactor’s emergency safety systems were turned off Sweden was the first country to tell the world about the disaster after the Soviet Government attempted to cover it up After Unit 4 exploded, Unit 2 was closed in 1991, Unit 1 was closed in 1996, while Unit three was shut down in 2000 It was so bad that cleanup is still in progress to this day Dogs today are experiencing rapid genetic evolution due to the radiation It costed $235 billion dollars in damages

I bet by the time the area the Chernobyl Disaster took place in becomes inhabitable agen twenty thousand years from now, either we're gonna have major overpopulation problems or the earth might reach the end of it's lifespan and explode like a spherical firecracker.

A bit of information about the Bhopal Gas tragedy: When pressure rose in the tank E610, instead of exploding, the pressure valve system of the tank got ruptured due to the high pressure. When this happened, the gas travelled through the plant structure, passing through the various safety systems which were ill maintained and then passed through the venting chimney and out into the atmosphere which then got carried by a wind to the city of Bhopal The various safety systems which failed were: Vent Gas scrubber: Makes the gas inert by passing it through caustic soda. The system was never designed for large accidents and was in a very poor condition. Flare Tower: Burns the gas as it enters the chimney. A 3 foot section of a critical pipeline was cut from it and they never got it fixed. Low power water spray systems: The water spray system provided by union carbide to make the MIC dissolve in water were under powered and hence couldn't reach the vent stack.

⚠️It's Chornobyl, not chernobyl⚠️ (8:45)
@comondere86Ай бұрын
It is, in Russian pronunciation.
@REZ_LevАй бұрын
@comondere86 But Chornobyl is in Ukraine, so the Ukrainian pronunciation is correct, not the Russian one🙂
@comondere86Ай бұрын
@@REZ_LevWell, in Ukraine both Russian and Ukrainian are commonly spoken, especially in Kyiv region. I think it doesn't really matter when mentioned in other languages. It will only be weird if someone making a Ukrainian video and said "Chernobyl" or someone making a Russian video that said "Chornobyl".
@REZ_LevАй бұрын
@comondere86 Are you Ukrainian? No Am I Ukrainian? Yes Does it really matter? -Of course, because it's history and I don't want russia to manipulate it by saying that it's a historically russian city

Looks like these types of videos are getting more views than the portrayed by Minecraft series I'm just anxious that he might not do the portrayed by Minecraft series anymore and lose his old fans because of that or maybe he's doing both who knows? Also the titanic was definitely the most famous out of all of them I like the UK cameo especially this part 1:24 that caught me off guard

Fun Fact: The ecological catastrophe which remains to today is caused by havoury and rusting of the Chernobyl nuclear program station in 1986. In radius of 30 km the land is destroyed and nobody lived there.
