Thanks for sharing Mark. I can see this method working in slower waters, too. Always learning in flyfishing.

I have been using split shots for this method for years. I have also " tied" a fly with different amounts of either tungsten or brass cones/beads and basically cut the hook itself off in case of the rules banning that.

Skipping a split along the bottom works very well. Use it for salmon and steelhead too. I usually run a single fly setup that way I don’t have any more junctions above the main fly. Which is crucial when 10-12lb steelhead take and especially coho which will go right for the logs. I run 14lb test when doing this method. And usually my split is on about 10lb test.

I thought that looked like the Beaverhead. Nice. Love that country.

Use this for years, without bobber. It's called bottom bouncing. Not sure what is the bobber for, if it's sliding or fixed, but is awkward to cast with weight at the end and a bobber 8 feet above.

What kind/type of weight was that, how was it rigged and how much did it weigh, noticed it wasn't split shot.

Where can I buy that sinker? Looks good for sliding along the bottom without hanging up. Thanks.

So you turned a fly rod into a float rod. And your fly reel into a centerpin cool.

You ought to mention that viewers should check local regs. Drop shot on moving water is illegal in California.

Isn’t everything illegal in California 😂

Is that right? Just because it’s really effective?

California would do that 🤦♂️

If you assaulted a fisherman, stole their rod and took over their spot then it's legal for you to do in California.

Bring on your float rods and fixed spool reels , it's a lot easier.

Wish you would show the rigging a little better. He was to fast and did not show video close up on the rigging.

Pretty simple - used in bass fishing for many many years - you rig a “pencil” weight - tungsten steel on bottom - google that and you will find lots of them for sale in various size weights - I think 1/8th ounce or less might work well for most waters - they make them much bigger as well - I have them in sizes up to one ounce. These weights have a spinning keeper on the top - just slice your line into the diamond shaped opening and pull it up to secure - you can put a simple overhand knot in your line as well then pull you line into the keeper - you will figure it out - in some streams you will get hang ups - using about 3 to 6 inches of lesser pound test at the bottom of your rig will help with hang ups as you will lose the weight and not your rig - use a 3 turn surgeons knot to attach that line. Then put surgeon knot tag lines at about one foot above the weight and two feet above the weight - attach your flies to these “tags” - keep them short to tangle less - about 3 to 5 inches - if you are a beginner just use one tag and fly till you get used to it. Hope that helps

People will do this and then turn around and mock euro nymphing. Also, has there ever been an episode with Mark where his face isn’t sunburned by the end? What does the guy have against sunscreen?
