His brother got him a gun, why the hell would you get your mentally unstable brother a gun?!...and his sister got a letter from him telling her that he was going to do something bad, yet she never thought to tell anybody. I’m completely flabbergasted at their stupidity. They could have (maybe) stopped him from murdering an innocent young girl. Cases like this make my blood boil, there was several opportunities to potentially prevent this from happening. And don’t even get me started on the private investigator... There was so many red flags yet nobody thought to intervene and protect her (or other victims) Rest In Peace Rebecca ❤️

It's not fair to blame his siblings for something they didn't know would happen. He was unstable and a murderer NOT them! He chose to stalk that actress and kill her with that gun. NOT them! It's common sense to us in this day in age what red flags to look for in stalkers or mental health disorders because of the resources we have to be aware of it. He found her because the system had no protection for privacy laws.

@@yjay4084 If my brother came to me and told me to get him a gun because he got turned down, I'd tell him to fuck right off with that. No one NEEDS a gun that bad that you'd go get your brother one when he's been denied. If I bought my brother that gun anyway and he went and murdered someone with it, I'd feel just as guilty as if I pulled the trigger, and I'd expect to be arrested. The approval process to purchase a gun is there for a reason, and it should be illegal for someone to circumnavigate around it by getting someone else to buy a gun for you when you've been turned down for whatever reason. The brother is just a culpable as the idiot PI who gave a stranger someone's home address without any reason to do so. So much went wrong with so many people enabling this dude's mental issues. That PI, I hope he doesn't sleep too well at night. He's just as responsible as well.

The insanity that a person--after a widely publicized case where an actress was attacked in this very manner--can approach ANY private detective and say "hey I want to find this celebrity" and the PI says "sure no problem" and then after he murders her the PI says on the stand at the trial that he had no idea this could have happened...smh I'm glad those laws have changed but did someone really have to die for the change to happen? It seems like death is the only thing that wakes up our society.

Dude wasn't "made out to be a murderer," he WAS a murderer. He killed a complete stranger, an innocent 21-year-old woman, because he didn't like the way she talked to him when he invaded her privacy after stalking her. I'm glad he was convicted of first-degree murder, as he was clearly 100% guilty.

So sad that it was after her tragic murder that laws finally changed! She was so wise beyond her years at such a very young age. Only being about 16 years old, in a scary subway, in a brand new city, witnessing a woman getting threatened by a man, with a screwdriver, but still finds the courage to help her by acting as if she knows the woman. That's power & strength & bravery. She's amazing! Rest in Peace Rebecca! 🙏🏻😇

Back in the day, many celebrities had their names and addresses in the local phone books. There were a few fan stalkings before this including a female fan who shot baseball star Eddie Waitkus in the 1950s but the thought of actually shooting celebrities didn't become a thing until the 1980s, starting with the death of John Lennon. They were so rare, legislation did not seem necessary.

I watch a LOT of true crime programming on KZbin. I found this to be well-researched and exceptionally well-presented. My congratulations. It helped that you had archives from Court TV but you still added a great deal of detail beyond this. Rebecca's dying words were "Why? Why?" How tragic. And, yet, those who love her pushed for her death to have meaning with laws to protect future stalking victims from being exposed by government record. That doesn't bring her back to life or comfort her family and friends but it does answer "why" in a cosmic sense. May she rest in piece.

Please understand, you don't have to be famous to have a deadly stalker. I had one for over two decades. There are so many signs, so please pay attention to who is around you, what is going on, and always be prepared to act if you feel endangered. This poor girl was so naive. It's so sad what happened to her!

Ditto! I wrote a paper on that book and some other teenage angst books back in 10th grade. I remember practically banging my head on the typewriter (yes, I’m old 😁) wondering who what and why made this book so important that 10th graders all over the country had to waste time reading it. Didn’t Salinger kill himself? But it sure didn’t inspire me to go murder a celebrity

Here's an interesting fact. I'm a Canadian living in Sweden for almost 6 years. The information on the plates in Sweden is completely public. The plate is put on the car before it's first sale, and stays there until the car is demolished. I can see all current, and previous owners', names and addresses. At first I thought this was pretty crazy, but like countries with legalized drugs, it seems to keep people in check. I like it, in a weird way.

this was so incredibly well done! she seemed like a really sweet trusting person and she had a bright future ahead of her. They take much more precautions now than they did back then. Now i know why celebrities shake and act nervous when i would say hi i use to run into them all the time where I lived because they had moved to my town to get away from hollywood. Its so unfortunate to have a tragic loss in this way. Stalkers are so terrifying and many are not insane at all like ricardo lopez bjork stalker he was very self aware he just wanted to die and hurt the one person he obsessed over in his mind the closest he ever came to love. Its that same mentality many stalkers seem to share. Poor Rebecca :(

@@TeamCat1128 yah when actors and actresses were first starting out they unfortunately did have their guard down for this stuff...they were very humble and trusting even answering fan mail and reading letters they received and they'd do fun stuff back then like do contests for like a charity thing like the winner would get to go on a date with them very risky stuff.. remember the dating game killer (a serial killer that went on a dating show rodney alcala)? gives me anxiety thinking about that
