I just pull out my starter relay at night, you may end up with a broken window, door handle or ignition switch but your car will be there in the morning because a thief isn’t going to take the time to figure out why it isn’t turning over after they bust your ignition.

We live near new york city. While my mom was visiting friends in Toronto, her car was stolen at a restaurant. A couple of weeks later, she's all set to buy a new car to replace it, and she gets a call. It was found, and she could have it in a few days. I thought the canadian police were very professional on the phone, and it was a very nicely handled situation. In this case, it was stolen by a bunch of kids who were caught with another stolen vehicle, and in order to get favor from the police, they gave up another stolen car, my mom's. they were running it in the winter to keep warm and living in it. The car was fine except for a broken door lock. We had it for many years after that.

I bought an Apple air tag for 25$. Watched a KZbin video on how to open it and remove the speaker. Then I put the air tag in a crazy spot in the car. Presto. 25$ location finder for my car. Press find my keys icon on my Apple phone and there it is my car and it’s location

I knew then that if someone wanted it, they would get it. Even if they had to pull me out at a stoplight. Social media has made people crazy over these cars. Thank you, Scotty, for this timely and very informative video. I've watched your channel for at least five years and appreciate your knowledge. The only point I would like to make is these anti-theft devices are actually worthless. I met a guy who drove a 15-year-old Honda Civic and I asked him how you make sure your car is not stolen, he said I remove the computer module from inside of my Honda and I always take it with me. Although it's bulky, it's the only fail-safe method to prevent theft.

I noticed a strange vehicle That kept passing my house. The final time they passed the alarm on my car began to sound off and then it immediately went off. Right away I figured out they had cloned my fob since I used to keep it in a bowl by the front door. When I tried to get a new fob both the locksmith and dealer laughed me off as crazy. I decided to beef up security so I purchased a faraday bag and a box the “Club” and a strap that goes around the steering wheel and clicks into the seatbelt bracket. Fast forward came outside one morning to an unlocked car but it was still in my driveway LOL! They may eventually get me but not without a fight !💪 Sure it’s a hassle to strap down the car every day but way easier than filing insurance etc.

i DO use The Club device on the steering wheel when parking in sketchy areas. I know a true thief can remove it in about a minute, but a hacker will have trouble with it, and like you said, they see it, and just want to avoid the hassle and move on to the car next to it! I was thinking of getting a brake pedal lock too, but the ones online are too cheaply made. maybe i will try to make my own. THAT would be hard to remove (due to the position), and would take many minutes to cut thru even with an angle grinder.

About 20 seconds through the A pillar. About 30 secs through the B pillar. Amazing how thin that metal really is.

My 2019 Hyundai Sonata was stolen 2 and a half years ago in St. Louis. It was taken for a joy ride and found the next day. Took two months to getvit back, with all the Hyundais being stolen at the time i sold it to Carvana because i feared it would just be stolen again. If you're gonna go the less expensive route avoid the steering wheel lock because thieves easily remove it by cutting through the steering wheel. You're better off getting the one that attaches to the break pedal.

Steering wheel bars are super easy to remove. They just cut the steering wheel with a hacksaw. 15-20 seconds, bye bye car.

It depends. I saw a news video about a guy whose SUV was stolen, and an Air Tag led him to a shipping yard. The cops said they couldn’t do anything because the port is private property. He lost the signal as it crossed the ocean. He eventually got the signal back and tracked it to a used car lot in the Middle East (Dubai?).

Most of my cars have manual transmission, which is a great deterrent. However, I do have a couple of vehicles with an automatic transmission. Removing the fuel pump and ignition relay will keep the car from starting. Fairly easy thing to do. I just put the relays in my pocket and replace them when I get back to the car. Not sure what about a catalytic converter. Etching seems to be one of the best things you can do, but the thief may not see the etching if it is dark.

I purchased a catalytic converter plate for my Tundra. I think it will work. I asked a number of auto businesses to tighten one of the security screws. Several said they couldn't get it to tighten. I didn't do it, due to current health reasons. I finally did find a service center, that had the knowledge to tighten that screw.

The etching I think is just to stop the resale of the converter or make it easier if thief is caught for the return of your property.

I doubt the thieves are removing every car’s license plate. All the police need to do is secretly install license plate camera readers at every entry of the port, but I guess they’ve used all their camera funds to bust people speeding 5mph over the limit.

Have a friend that had a dodge challenger stolen recently and was used in a smash and grab in a high end shoe store, the car was left at the scene of the crime. The thieves had another car waiting around the corner.

Scotty, I just had my vehicle 2019 Hyundai Elantra stolen for the fourth time (beginning in 2022) with the recalled Hyundai Anti USB Safety Anti-theft feature (installed at the dealership) and the yellow steering wheel lock you showed. Locally it is a known fact that those methods do not prevent a stolen vehicle. We are intentionally being sold defective vehicles. That brands 2025 models are being stolen now the same way. It really affects the working and retired the most. When will those numbers be reported. Thank you.

Didn't know about catalytic converter theft and got it cut off my 2004 F150 back in 2021. Ended up costing me thousands in repair and related issues for what was probably 200 for the thief. If I would have known I would have left a note on the window to come knock on the door and I'll just give you 200 dollars 🙃

We drove our Toyota Highlander to Montreal in the middle of October. When we woke up at the motel, which was near the port, both driver and passenger windows were cracked and the right rear window was completely broken. The Boucherville police officer said thieves were trying to steal the car. We don't know why they didn't succeed but we were happy to drive it back to Chicagoland with a quilt covering the broken out window. Stay away from Montreal!

Do you have a tracking system? I don’t know if TAG operates in Ontario but in Quebec they do, and many Toyota dealers will have a TAG tracking system installed on their vehicles. It’s the most effective theft deterrent so far. Costs around $500 for a 5 year surveillance contract.

My niece's car was stolen in Minnesota. It was a Hyundai before they did the software update back when they were super easy to get. She managed to get the car back, but it took over 6 months to get the parts. She gets the parts, car gets fixed. She didn't even have it home for 24 hours and it was stolen again. She got it back a second time and just traded it in. LOL

The car manufacturers should install devices on all new cars to make them much harder to steal. If not, we will stop buying those cars because we can't afford 3 to 4K on the spot to replace them. I had my CAT Converter stolen off my 2008 Toyota Prius 2 1/2 years ago, it cost me $2,800 for the part and $1,200 for labor at the Toyota dealer. I'm still paying it off my credit card. I did get one of those CAT cage installed which helps a lot because thieves have to work longer to cut that off first, so they would rather just go to the next Prius that doesn't have one installed. People should just stop buying the cars that are most stolen as well.

I have an older on star system that always glitches out and won't start so I disconnect the battery to clear it out and try again. Also you can make a remote jammer to do this to some car and make them not start.
