This song is joels way of paying respect to his buddy ( input_output can be shortened as i_o)... U can clearly hear i_o kind of hook and melody style in this production....

He actually doesn't know anything about music theory and cannot even play anything (his own words), he's just very creative (even though a lot of his melodies and sounds are just recycled from other songs and this one is a good example) and he found a formula that works for him and made it his. And lets be honest, no music theory is needed to make any genre of music (specially EDM) other than Classical and maybe Jazz.

So the melody that begins from 5:40 is actually from an unrealesed deadmau5 track, with the name "Rio" on KZbin from about 8 years ago now. It is such a powerful sound that gives me goosebumps everytime. Intriguing how "Rio" and "Input Output" (i_o) are the same characrers, so maybe it was intentional that Joel chose this track to reference i_o? Or maybe I'm just overanalyzing, who knows?..

It's still gotta be one of the best deadmau5 videos for sure... 😊 If you knew what it took to generate that CGI at that frame rate and at that resolution, real 4k video. My friend Jessie and I made this video about 12 - 13 years ago, for this track, that another friend and I had just recorded. Its sounds come in part from an audio recording that was from a recent test firing of a SpaceX rocket. This had to be somewhere around 2007. 😊

7:02 I love the sytnh sound/notes, besides the tempo difference it is the same as in his song with Foster the People - 'Hyperlandia". Love hearing elements of other songs. Started to do the same, saving my favourite (unique) sounds to use them over different tracks. 3:40 vocal chop fx loop is from one of his songs, but can't tell right now which one. After some research I think it is from "when the summer dies", just instead of making it very compressed(?) and narrowing it down, made it stand out in this track
