Oh fun fact: While that painting by Goya is commonly referred to as "Saturn Devours His Son", that was given much later after the fact. It's one of the 14 so-called "Black Paintings" that he made towards the end of his life, painting them directly onto the walls of his home. He never intended them to be publicly displayed, and never gave them names. Meaning it wasn't meant as a depiction of Saturn, just a bizarre horrific mural he made that some historian decided to reference Roman mythology with, which makes it even more disturbing in my eyes.

MASSIVE respect for Susan Lanier. I've heard that SA scenes are incredibly difficult to film, psychologically. Respect and boundaries are paramount in those moments. The way she managed to take charge, build chemistry, and break the tension by suggesting to Michael Berryman that they should actually make out is such a power move.

@@stone_age_sam Yes! Slashers are especially bad when someone will INSTANTLY die from a single stab to the gut or be fully dead from being chocked for 20 seconds. I had a seizure where I didn't breathe during it and it lasted nearly 6 minutes and I (obviously) didn't die. Not sure what it is with horror movies and people dying extremely easily.

I live a bit over half an hour away from where they filmed this. It’s up the hill in the high desert. You have to drive through there to go to Las Vegas(which I just did yesterday lol) but it doesn’t look like the movie since so much has happened since 77’ but don’t get me wrong. There’s plenty of places on that drive looking off the freeway that make me wonder where they film this movie. It’s still very much desert out there.

As a Great Lakes city kid, I am fearful of the south, rural/empty areas, and hot areas. Would never even go on a road trip through a place like this, even if we didn't stop anywhere. Turns out in this movie, they do a similar thing with Jaws. Raimi interpreted this as saying "Jaws is pop horror, this is real horror" and since he had done that in The Evil Dead, that's how their creative rivalry started. Even in Scream, the teens pick Halloween over The Evil Dead. The "Work shed"'s Freddy Krueger glove did return in the first episode of Ash vs Evil Dead, but Craven passed away later that year. They honored him with a more complete version of this movie's poster outside a theater in a Season 2 episode.

The “gymnast with a gun” bit absolutely creased me, just the mention of it was funny enough but then the clip of him flipping about like he’s in the Spetsnaz or something, 10/10

James made a mistake about Pluto’s death Pluto actually survived the attack from Beast and he is in the sequel

Are not the death counts in the context of the film? Like, without knowing or seeing the sequel, should this not be a death?

@KynElwynn Nah, they usually take sequels into account. Pretty sure James either just forgot or didn't care because the sequel is baaaad.

Plot twist: Ad-read James is actually Zoran wearing a James suit. The flannel and the careful cropping to hide an absence of pants totally gives it away.

I love The Hills Have Eyes, messed up doesn't always mean better, but in this case I think how bleak and savage this one is compared to the remake definitely does make it better The Dog is also the MVP I remember watching this movie the first time back in Middle School and the Dog pushing the dude off the cliff (forget the names of the characters haven't watched it in a long time)
