GingerZombie29 this holds true in so many situations. Any time you meet a survivor of trauma or someone who has lost a loved one, and you haven't experienced the same thing, it is the best course of action to admit that you don't understand what they're going through, but they have your sympathy and support. The words "I feel your pain." Should only be spoken when you really have felt that pain.

I love what he says to her before they go see Hamilton. "I'm sure a real hero would have something profound to say to you to make you feel better instantly, but... I'm all you got." That right there paired with how he helps her by taking her to the hospital is what makes Wade a true hero. A real isn't someone who can say or do something, and that'll make everything okay. A real hero is someone who knows how to be powerless and still makes a difference in someone's life.

Deadpool may be insane, but seeing this, seeing him go out of his way to buy the girl some more time, to get her help... It shows that even then, he still has humanity, and a heart.

Deadpool is most definitely not insane, not in my eyes at least. There's been many times where it's shown he does have a soft spot to help people. Especially children. Like Deadpool says in the movie: "I'm just a bad guy who kills even badder guys." He knows what he's doing at all times.
@liquidtoothpaste
@liquidtoothpaste 4 ай бұрын
He might be a bit questionable and mean to everyone, but the only people he enjoys seeing die or suffer are people who deserve it. Like in Deadpool 1, the first thing he did in the shootout with Francis was rushing Negasonic behind cover since she's the only one vulnerable to being shot. He will never say it, but he's a really caring guy.

the number one thing you should do with a friend who is suicidal is show them that you're still there for them but urge them to get proper professional help. send them the number for a hotline, assure them that you'll be there if they're too scared to make the first step. Being the emotional anchor isn't enough, they need to be able to find merit in their life that isn't just you. And it doesn't matter how good your intentions are: you won't be able to give them that. If their therapist tells them that their family situation is the problem, let them stay over. If they feel incredibly lonely, be there for them. If they're worried about their future prospects, encourage them. Be there for them. But don't be all they have, because that's incredibly unhealthy and completely antithetical to their recovery.

Beautiful post, glad someone pointed that out.Good thing for people who worships these characters, allow their morals to become all jaded and muddy and even ok with extreme, morbid measures all in the name of their "hero" behaving like that. These heroes are not meant to be modeled after, you are meant to learn lessons from these stories and be entertained but they are in no way a role model to be followed, especially a character like Deadpool. Glad the writer isnt a fanboy himself and had the maturity and sense to write that

This was a brilliant approach to trying to help someone about to commit suicide. Taking them off-guard from their thoughts is a great way to redirect the place their thoughts are taking them.... And an especially dangerous place to go if you don't know what you're doing. Deadpool demonstrated that he was a lot smarter than he gave himself credit for. He was able to get her off his building, get her to watch a show to calm down and get back her grip on reality, and even take her to the hospital, ALL without her resisting or even knowing what he intent was. And after she's in a place where she can be reasoned with after winding down, he can talk to her about the situation. He even managed to get her to go into the hospital's entrance with him no less. Did he manipulate her? Certainly. Did he do it with the intent of helping her? Obviously. Did it work? Evidently. As someone who has themselves suffered with thoughts of suicide, Deadpool resonates with a unique energy in this. He gives off the outward personality that he's seeking to be amused, while his inner thoughts reflecting on this shows this suicide attempt hits close to home for him. He empathizes with what this random girl is going through, and takes that chance to help her make her way to a place where more experienced people who can use something better than a bunch of pills can actually get her out of that slump she's in. So yeah. I'd give Deadpool more credit on this. He's a lot smarter than he thinks he is, and is well-aware of the limits to high easily and to what effect he can help others. And in this short little bit, it shows without being grating, annoying, or simply depressing. And my hat's off to the two voice actors who decided to use their talents for this. It worked swimmingly!

The thing I love the most is that this is canon: this is official material. It's something that promotes help for those who are struggling with mental health issues in a series were the main protagonist has mental health issues. Many people who have mental health issues would relate, and maybe even see that their is hope and that they can get help. It shows that Deadpool himself is so much more than just a crazy guy who loves sex, bloody violence, and chimichangas, and that he actually has a lot of depth to his character, and well...a decent heart underneath everything, even if he isn't the best person at being a hero in the traditional sense. This is why Deadpool will always have a place in my heart as one of my favorite superheroes (well...antiheroes, but still~).

Deadpool does have a lot of experience with depression, self-hate and suicide. He definitely knows what it's like. I mean, killing himself is a *norm* for him to a point he doesn't really think before shooting himself in the head or jumping down from a building headfirst. He just doesn't stay dead. Nowadays it may be because he really doesn't care due to being accustomed to it, but at some point of his life it was because of suicidal tendencies.

He has shown multiple times (in the movies and comic books) that he's willing to ignore the orders of people more powerful and influential than him just because he wants to help or because he has a clear goal in mind. He also has shown sacrifice before, he isn't heartless, he's just a little crazy. This comic actually fits very well with his character, showing basically who Deadpool really is. He has suffered, but instead of taking his anger out on the world, he helps others who are suffering.

Think dialogue like this that makes me think anti heroes are "better" heroes when done right. They arent self righteous, they are usually broken people and can relate to people in need. Thats not to say normal heroes cant relate, but most are written to have been blinded by a sense of optimism that cant always be present to the harsh reality of life. Wade knows he doesn't have the answers or wisdom to help the girl, but he has enough heart to know someone else can and guides her. Thats something you rarely see in comics.

I always come back watching this, or the comic where Superman stays and guide the victim to a solution days on end, or One punch man saving the jumper. Different characters, places, but each unique life lesson that all share the answer we're blinded by during our hard times. Despite being fictional people, seeing our characters deal with this situation both tells a interesting yet close to home story that's worth exploring if you're invested of the outcome.

This was actually a very interesting way to handle a "hero" trying to handle suicide, when were so used to seeing the famous "All Star Superman" version. And this was technically the most realistic way a regular person COULD help. What does one do when one wants to help, but knows they can't?

Both accomplish in saying something about their respective characters though, which is part of the point. The All Star Superman version was written to show that Superman is the type of person to still care about a depressed girl about to commit suicide even when he's a being with cosmic-level powers and overpowering supervillains to worry about, on top of the fact that he himself is dying in that comic. The Deadpool version shows how deep down, Deadpool is a good person, and in this age of cynicism he might have the brand of care and comedy to handle a situation like this well.

@mr.iiconic

@@OmegaQuinn that's not ruining him at all, he should be crazy and insane but the idea that "Deadpool is whatever we want him to be" is what has turned a once great consistent comic character with an emotional core into a joke and a meme who's personality is decided by a coin flip. Just because he's self aware and insane doesn't mean he's not still a person and not, idk, an all purpose storytelling trope. I've watched him get worse for 20 years roughly.

This was so very touching. I struggle with those thoughts everyday. I really like how DP handled this.

I'm actually really impressed with the writing in this. Deadpool only kept talking to distract and move her thought from jumping, because he knew she had the full capability to do so.

They say comedians are the ones that have truly suffered... They seem like hopeless optimists but in truth they hold onto that optimism to keep themselves grounded and any attempt to make you laugh is a reassurence to themselves as well

"A real hero would...but I'm all you've got" he doesn't think of himself as a hero. He's not trying to be a hero, he's just trying to help.

My boyfriend sent me this video, a few weeks after we started dating when I was extremely suicidal and had just tried to end it again, I just cried and cried for hours for no real good reasons, He held me and let me let it all out. Now, this was recommended to me again, and it brought me back memories from that time, and I now realise how much I've grown, but this video somehow is something I hold deep, even if I cant figure out why. My bf saved me many times, he's the reason I got better and Im greatful I have him as an amazing boyfriend

As an attempted suicide survivor myself, I... A GROWN MAN.. cried during this. Deadpool is the last person you would ever expect to care about someone else, especially a random person. And it just goes to prove, that no matter how down, hated, outcasted, or unwanted we feel.. someone, somewhere out there in the world will always love you for who you are.. Don't ever give up, to those who think that they can no longer handle the pains of life.. you can.. I promise.. your much stronger than you give yourself credit for!

I like this deconstruction of the usual "super hero motivates someone not to kill themselves". Superman has done this before in different situations, and even Saitama gave his own not so heroic version of this. I like that Wade is aware that he can't help her and that she needs professional help. Also: I LOVE THE HAMILTON MUSICAL!!!!

Desmond Lavin Not really. He does care about other people, but he sucks at expressing that care and he doesn't know how to improve. Being a jerk has become like a coping mechanism for him, and it doesn't help to have cancer, brain damage and awareness about his life as a comic book character.
