A lot of things lined up well for D&W. Disney bought out Fox. Marvel started dealing with the concept of the Multiverse in Avengers Endgame and Phase 4, and this ending (which was in all likelihood was meant to be a throwaway gag not to be mentioned in the original plans for DP3) serving as the perfect gateway to the MCU.

Ryan Reynolds has officially used the true Deadpool to clean the timeline from Barakapool, and of course Hugh did eventually hang up the claws. But along came Deadpool 3, where Deadpool (Ryan) asked Wolverine (Hugh) to get back in the saddle again. Almost like this scene made a difference in both the fictional universe as well as our own. However, I think it's shown in DP1 that he uses the .50 AE version, and that only holds 7 rounds. So yeah, technically he fired almost twice as many shots as the magazine could actually hold.
