Nice one mate. The other thing if you just show as jumping in and driving off would ask them to question if you'd actually done your walk around check. Yeah, you might have a bit of paper with ticks on it but they could and probably would say, " well, when did you do that" i Once they start seeing things like that they'll dig further. Absolutely the correct thing to keep accurate records. Spot on . Ive been a TM for 15 years, never been on the wrong side of DVSA or the OTC, but it's proper unpleasant when they come knock on the door

Do this every day, dont have to but if I go over my hours and then get stopped by mr Vosa I can demonstrate I try my hardest to keep on top of my hours. Simple but very effective. I even have my old diarys in the cab. I know people take print outs and keep them but to do that every day it soon adds up in tacho rolls.

It's now a legal requirement to fill in the gaps. I do part time and have a VDO simulator on my laptop but it is the old version. I practiced on that before starting a 3am shift and found the VDO in the truck gave me different displays. I managed to give myself a POA for around three days!!! I have followed all your video's and I am sure that they will have helped many a potential new driver to the industry. Nice step by step of manual entries, very clear and helpful. So glad you made the point of recording all your duty hours to comply with the law. The only point you might reconsider (IMHO) is the use of POA, a waiting time that the driver knows about before it starts, i.e the shovel driver is just finishing a brew - he will be with you in 10 minutes, would be POA. POA does not count as duty time for the 6 hour rule, your 48 hours average or your 60 hours maximum working time so can help avoid "running over" the WTD rules, especially when you go back to doing longer hours as a tramper. (most WTD infringements are in the second six hours of a duty) Look forward to the next installment, keep safe and well.
@Deady20124 жыл бұрын
I understand this mate, but POA makes everything really confusing and in 99% of cases, it's unnecessary After being on POA for just say 47 minutes, you now have to have a hand written time to the minute of when you stopped driving because it'll reset your driving hours on tacho but not actually count as a break... it'll pause your working time etc etc. It's far easier to either leave on Other Work for 10-20-30 mins whilst you wait to be tipped or whatever, then put it on break when you actually know what's happening. But every truck driver has their own way of doing things, if you are comfortable with POA then crack on matey.

Good luck for the future, Regards, Chris.

Not to confuse the issue about working 7 days a week but actually on domestic rules you can work it round to working 7 days a week, and over 55 hours per week, which is perfectly legal if its done correctly, please mention this in your next stream as some drivers get confused between the difference of domestic and EEC , and don't forget to mention about defect checking beginning and end of every shift, noticed a new driver the other day whom totally didn't do either hence he got his first earful.

Hi Deady, thanks so much for this really clear explanation. One question ... if you are entering the 3.5T van as 'other work' and a start and end time, does that get you in breach of the WTD rules? ie do you have to register a 15 min break before the 6 hour point? Thanks James

If anyone ever sees DRIVING WITHOUT CARD 28 on their Tacho, it's there cos someone's driven the lorry without a card. Chances are it's the shunter who's moved the lorry round in the yard as he doesn't need a card for shunting in the yard. Simply press OK prior to putting your card in, will resolve the issue.
