Hi Nelle❤️thank you for continuing to do more videos on the hearing loss side! Even old farts like me that's had a hearing loss for over half my life learns from your video's,I am not the best with new technology so you help a lot,your right you do pick up new languages quickly! This is your 2nd Christmas being deaf & 2nd with your cochlear implant! So hopefully it will be easier for you this Christmas depending on if you got uni parties or big family gatherings! Am glad your mum has learnt a few signs! BSL is hard I can do a few basic signs but my dyslexia etc does not help! You covered most of the tips! But one big tip for all deaf people with CI's,hearing aids,mics etc is to make sure you got batteries with you or if some technology like my hearing aids are rechargeable is to bring the charger with you,or make sure the device is fully charged,as if the batteries etc fail unless you can hear a tiny bit or you can lipread you end up in a silent world & you miss all that's going on around you! I don't know if you have had parts of your cochlear implants fail in this past year but it's always worthwhile carrying spares as at Christmas it's hard to get spare batteries etc! Seeing this video you have already broken the ice at parties about being deaf with your hair tied back & your CI jazzed up & from what I can see you had either coloured twisty things or different earmould for your hearing aid! It looks like you have got used to people seeing your CI/hearing aid,but for a lot of people there is still a stigma wearing them,as you say using only one or none at all! But for me & others I have messaged on social media it's how differently people treat you when they see you wearing hearing aids etc! In this video you had no glasses but probably contact lenses,you have a choice unlike being deaf,if you want to hear it's CI & hearing aids! When at a party or family gathering you should be able to enjoy yourself & as you say most family members & friends will do their best to help! As for music being too loud most of the time now all I feel is the vibration! Your right Nelle a lot of people's hearing does get worse in a year & since lockdown! Have a wonderful Christmas break with your family & friends! And I hope 2023 gets the other ear implanted & please don't stop making video's especially the deaf ones & I will keep donating to your go fund me page until you reach your target as your one of those people that make cochlear implants work & not waste the NHS's money & not wear them! ☃️🎄💖💖

That's definitely a good tip to always make sure you have spare batteries. I've been caught out a few times and plunged into silence. My CI doesn't warn me when the battery is low either so I can hear one second and then nothing the next which is really annoying. I'll definitely keep making videos in the new year. Nelle :)

Interesting work arounds. I’m avoiding non-family parties this year. Still waiting for my activation at the end of the year. Does your CI still sound more robotic or has it become more natural sounding?

Good luck for your activation. My CI does sound pretty natural to me now, some things still sound distorted and bad, but most of the time it doesn't bother me. One thing that still sounds really bad is live music. I can listen to music through the Bluetooth on my phone and it sounds alright, but if it's live music where there is background noise, it sounds like cats fighting with robots while a toddler bangs pots and pans together. Thanks Nelle - very useful information. I have profound loss in my right ear so I am hoping to have CI in Spring 2023. I currently use Phonak aids + Roger On. I have severe hearing loss in my right ear. Just wondering what brand CI that you have that works with Phonak Roger On? keep up the video's and tips - you are a wonderful presenter. Hi, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful. Good luck with getting your CI. Any brand of cochlear implant processor can be used with an adaptor to make it compatible with roger devices. Advanced Bionics (which is basically the same company as Phonak) can be used without an adaptor via roger direct. I have the Cochlear Nucleus 7 processor and use it with an adaptor for use with the RogerOn. Med El also has an option for an adaptor so you could use that as well. I hope this answers your question.
