Deaf Karma

Sometimes when people have no patience with you being Deaf, the best thing is stay positive and let karma take care of it!

I 100% feel this! I was born deaf in my left ear, and I was never taught ASL. I just got a cochlear implant and have begun learning ASL and am now inspired to become an interpreter. Anyway, in high school BOTH OF my hearing sisters took ASL courses, and constantly made fun of me for 'you're not deaf you're hearing impaired!' well one night at dinner we were eating, and my one sister said something too soft and too fast and I couldn't hear what she said. I asked her to repeat herself 3x until finally exasperated, she slammed her hands upon the table and was like OMG WHAT ARE YOU DEAF?? and after a long awkward minute of silence she was like, "OMG WAIT YOU ARE' and started laughing. So yeah. I feel thisALOT. Fun thing! When it's too noisy at college I take out my implant and put my headphones in, and only just the one in my hearing ear because it bothers me to have something in my non-hearing ear. People walk up to me all the time and start talking and I'm like 'WUT SORRY I'M DEAF' and I love making them feel awkward XD
