Thanks Dea, I've really enjoyed both these videos and the finished result was not what I might have expected beforehand, I don't think the casual glance would lead anyone to assume you'd used wax crayons. I was intrigued to see how the wax behaved with mineral spirits; somehow I was expecting them to be so highly soluble that the colour would appear to melt at the first touch, luckily they reacted in a far more controllable manner and they worked really well with the Prismacolor pencils. As I said before, I'm going to have to get mine out and experiment. The other thing you said about the freeing effects of trying something that you don't expect to work, I wholeheartedly agree with. Not long ago I decided to experiment on a page in a book I really didn't like. I threw everything at it, from covering it in white gesso, sanding it down afterwards and colouring it in a mixture of coloured pencil, real brush pens and gel pens. I didn't care, I had no emotional investment in it and at the end of it, I was agreeably surprised at how good it looked! On the other hand, there are pages where the image is so exquisite I feel inhibited about colouring, in case I ruin it!

YES! Exactly! We have to be less invested in the outcome and more in the process. Hope you heard your mention in the video--thanks again for the idea. xox

I recently watched a video of someone using Crayola crayons. She laid down her color. Then, she scraped off the wax layer, leaving most pigment. It smoothed out the color and gave great full coverage.

Very cute picture! Color with Donna did this recently in one of her videos. It turned out pretty nice. Have you tried putting Gamsol or any paint thinner into an empty Copic marker? I like the control it gives over the paint brush when applying it, but I am pretty bad at using paint brushes. I'm guessing that a colorless blender marker would work as well.

Hello - give your experience with putting Gamsol into an empty Copic marker, I was wondering if you ever put it into a waterbrush - like one made by Koi or Ohuhu.
@Melinda-S
@Melinda-S 4 жыл бұрын
@@BB-nz5sk I love it. I won't use Gamsol any other way now. I have no idea if it'd work in a waterbrush. I think it would depend on how airtight the cap is. If it's not perfect, the Gamsol will evaporate. I'd start with low budge waterbrush if I tried it. That way you're not out but a few pennies.

Someone shared using petroleum jelly as a blending medium. It falls in the icky idea category but I was curious and decided to try it. You dip the tip of your pencil, (I used Prisma but I think any will work) and color with it. It only takes a very tiny amount. It worked surprisingly well! I was concerned with it leaving a residue but it does not. After a day I think it was, there was no sign of it. You can color on top of it also. Has anyone else done this?

I did a video with Vaseline and baby oil--I got some flak about it--some were saying that I was showing methods that would ruin pencils and pages--I had a good time and while I think it works...it does eventually soak through to the other side. Here's the vid kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJjXkmqXgK6tacU Have a great day! xo

Kathe, I haven't used vaseline too much as I prefer to blend with using just my pencils, BUT...did a picture almost a year ago of a seahorse with the seaweed etc. I wanted my water to look darker the further down I went as that is what real water does, so I did use vaseline on that picture knowing that it would deepen my colors and fortunately I did NOT have the vaseline soak into the back of the page. The page however was a downloadable PDF and so I was coloring on my favorite paper to color on-65# card stock. So...I think it may have to do with the type of paper you are coloring on. 😊
