I grew up in the 1970's. The pigments on crayons used to be much stronger. It was lovely. By the 80's, it was cheaper to use less pigments and more wax. Very, very upsetting to go from a medium that had the vibrancy of oil pastels, to now a dull candle. Love your videos!

@iloveyourunclebob5 жыл бұрын
I almost got held back in the first grade because of this. I was having a hard time staying in the lines, turns out I needed glasses. They told me to outline it but gave me absolutely no explanation but outline. If you're a first grader and you've never heard the term "outline" before, where do you think you put the outline? That's right! I did it on the outside of whatever I was coloring. They had a meeting with my parents and everything. I was pissed. Like, you gave me absolutely no explanation at all except to outline it and I did outline it you just didn't tell me that the outline should be inside. I was a very literal child.

I love pallets of kids watercolors! Most come with the same basic and few colors, but I do occasionally find some with different colors at dollar stores. I’ve even found matte and glossy watercolors. I started with them because I was broke and kept using kids stuff because I enjoyed it. I have a series called inner child art. My parents would never buy me the big box. My preferred medium is oils and only considered watercolors for rough sketching/washes and just playing around similar to doodling. I must confess the "36-pack" she sent, as generic as it is, works wonderfully! I was duly impressed and have just received a commission to paint whales for a soon-to-be born child's bedroom, based upon my scribblings with these paints! This should be lots of fun! Gonna have stock up on those sets (my youngest son is staring because I was laughing at my phone...picturing myself doing a mural on a bedroom wall using one set after another! Kira Doray Coloring is one of the first creative outlets we receive as children. There are “rules” according to non creatives. Pressing hard was looked down upon in my house. “Do it right or I’m putting them away!” My gramma was a crazy ass creative. I was taught to break crayons into pieces and carve into the side to create purposeful texture and shadow.... it was our secret, which is code for “your mom will kill me if she knew I taught you this.” At home my crayons were perfect, at grammas the had no wrappers, were broken into pieces and some were no longer round. Oh, and they were stored in one of grandpas tobacco tins..... it was the 60’s.
