It’s legal for them to discriminate against anyone from out of state apparently. They will dealer discount so much more if your local but if you aren’t they will jack the price up. And incentives etc can be identical in dealer zip code and vs purchaser zip code.

At the end of 2002 I moved up to Cape Cod and I worked in Hyannis and there was a car dealership in one of the towns right before Hyannis on route 28. This place was large.. he had magnificent cars parked all over the place all the Italian cars, British cars German cars. I admired what he had. About eight months later, I was reading the newspaper, and that dealership was mentioned that the FBI raided it. The dealership would sell a car 5X and never deliver a car. So he get paid for five cars and he wouldn’t even give one car to one of the five people he kept it to sell it again and again. I was surprised that nobody went over there and took the law into their own hands. This was real money.

As a small dealer I can say Lucky is 100% spot on. I only sell fun cars as car sales are a secondary business for me. Recently I had a 1970 Big Block SS Chevelle on consignment for 75k the seller only asked 50k which I told him was too cheap but he just wanted a quick sale. I listed it and sold it for 75k the minute the funds were available I got a 50k cashiers check for the seller knowing I tend to have cash flow issues I did not want to jeopardize the sellers funds or be tempted to float the money. WOW reading that back made me sound greedy but it's just the business and Lucky 100% spot on.

My dealers license with the MO Dept of Revenue is set up on selling on a delayed title. I had to increase my Bond from $50K to $100K. The person who’s car I am selling they keep the title I scan a copy I can show the buyer. Never had an issue.

Is it better to list it on Bring a Trailer? Or are there dangers there too?
@terrylessmann22742 ай бұрын
Of course there are dangers. Starting with BAT wanting a low reserve - they don't get paid unless the car sells, so they want it to sell. A high reserve doesn't do them any good. If you don't agree to a low reserve, they won't list it. Then the car better pass the peanut gallery insults / nit picking. You have be active as the seller to answer any questions or deal with any problems. And you have to hope there are 2 ppl who want it or the auction flops. Successful auctions are a lot of work. You don't just send a cpl of picks of a dirty car and wait for a huge check to appear.

A question about a regular guy wanting to become a dealership with my own personal cars, because dealer plates are easier to run around with instead of having to smog multiple cars all the time in California. California can be unfriendly to some nice cars that I have. If I were to be a "Dealership" on paper and keep two plates to rotate amongst my rides... does this seem like a viable loophole?
@OneOut12 ай бұрын
Retired dealer here. That can e a smart move, especially if you like to swap in and out of high end cars. due to sales tax savings. Thinks to learn about before you move forward. State laws about minimum sales per year designed to prevent this. Insurance under a dealer tag. Maintaining minimum office and display area to maintain dealer qualifications.. Good luck.
