🔥 There’s one skill that separates great IT Project Managers from everyone else-project tailoring. Most project managers get stuck trying to learn every new tool and process out there. They dive deep into theories but still struggle to deliver projects on time and within budget. It’s frustrating. The truth is, great project managers don’t try to do it all-they focus on tailoring simple processes and tools that work best for their team and projects. That’s what creates transparency, predictability, and results. But here’s the thing-tailoring isn’t just guessing what might work. It’s about knowing three critical components: 1) Understanding project management on a deeper level. 2) Knowing exactly what to tailor. 3) Applying it effectively in real companies with real people. That’s why I created the Professional Development Plan for IT Project Managers-to help you master project tailoring and finally become the project manager who delivers every time, no matter the challenge. ✅ Click the link below to get your development plan now and take the next step toward mastering project management. itpmschool.com/get-plan?

I have a question. In one of my courses in Project Management classes, we had a group work where , in a scenario, a new team member was employed to join the group and during team members discussion brainstorming on how to solve a particular problem, the new team member,being a lady, had a brilliant idea on how to solve this problem but the team members who had worked together for a long time did not want to consider the new team member's ideas. I guess they felt like, you are new and don't invade our territory and tell us what to do. You as the PM, how do you solve such an issue to make the new team member feel welcomed and that his/her ideas are welcomed? Is such problem normal?
@ITProjectManagers2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that’s a typical problem but not a normal one. First of all, you mention that the new team member is a lady. That’s sexism already. It shouldn’t be a factor. You need to treat team members equally. It means not giving preferences by the gender in any direction. Second, you should always give a chance to express the idea and discuss it. Consider pros and cons. At the same time, it doesn’t automatically mean that it’s a good idea you need to implement. However, if other team members resist new ideas, it’s up to you, the project manager, to work it out. You need consider the benefits of implementing the idea against the negative effect this conflict creates. But you should never avoid conflict just because it’s uncomfortable.

And when the difficult person is your boss? Make assumptions, does not care about your project, take off the tech leader of the project, does not listening you in one on one meetings (looking to mobile instead...) . Plus the environment is a complex Irish Public sector.
@ITProjectManagers3 жыл бұрын
Good question, Daniela. Here’s the harsh truth. Even as a great leader you are not a magician. You can’t resolve all conflicts and fix all people. So, in your case, I would ask myself if I want to work in such environment. I really pay close attention to my direct manager or boss when considering a new job. Unless you feel desire and confidence to stand your ground and improve culture in that company, I would slowly start looking for a new job. It’s a matter of picking your fights. Do you feel like experience working with that leader is positive experience that will make you a better PM. If no, then leave.

I thought as a project manager, you can't fire a team member. Is it that you can ask your superior to change the difficult person but can't fire him/ her from the company?
@ITProjectManagers2 жыл бұрын
That’s correct. Usually, you don’t have authority to fire a person. I have separate video that explain the process: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZofCqpp5iJ6gb6s
