This is such an important topic, especially pertaining to fashion and film. We are bombarded with images of stick thin people in haute couture. When we compare those images of this slender ideal to the image we see in the mirror, our own perception of that reflection comes into play. We are our own worst critics in that respect, especially when society is screaming in our face that we need to be thin and young. There is a great struggle to change that perception of ourselves. Is it easy and simple? No. This IS a disease, and as such requires treatment and commitment to return to health. Thanks to you and Nina for such a frank discussion of your own personal struggles. Much love to you both! XOXOXOXO

Thank you so much shtupman! What a wonderful comment! I agree completely! How ironic that we talk about anorexia in the Cannes Film Festival setting! You are right: film and fashion... both do little to nothing to help us heal from the distorted vision of ourselves that society pushes on to us... xoxo

Dacob and Nina, thank you for your bravery in telling your stories. I am so glad both of you made it back. My first experience with a person suffering from anorexia was a good male friend when we were about 15. He unfortunately did not survive. I believe many forms of mental disorders arise due to wanting to be in control of something in your life. Eating disorders however , society and marketing have to take some of the blame for. Much love to you both! Xoxo!

I think it's quintessential to talk about this kind of topics. Nobody should consider this topic a tabu and/or judge people who are going through tough times. Mental illness is a grave issue that should and - most importantly - needs to be dealt with. I really appreciate your courage to share your stories with us. And I'm proud of you, although your stories vary, both of them are a message for those who are suffering and struggling with anorexia that they're not alone and that there is a way of ending it. I reckon it's truly beautiful.

Thank you Kiadora! Yes, each person has a different story and different struggles! We thought talking about them in the open on the street where other people can hear us was a very important way to send out the message that we should never be afraid and ashamed to openly talk about our fears, our struggles, pains, illnesses and complications in life. Once we open up about them, we realize that we are not alone in the pain. Many suffer in similar ways and unity does help to heal and get better. xoxo

Congrats 2 You Both for being Brave to discuss this & Happy you are where you are today. I'm a PT & most of my clients are Gay Guys who think they have to live up to a certain standard promoted in the Gay Community. Mostly I try to get them to be healthy but if they want to get muscle or lose weight I can help them. But I have to continuously reinforce to them to just be the best version of themselves & not try to be someone else's version. So I applaud you for being the best versions of yourselves.

Thanks Robert! But guess who thinks we are not the best we could be?!... KZbin! KZbin demonetized this video because it deems it not advertiser friendly even though KZbin stated that 2018 was the year of health awareness on their platform and that they would support it. I guess talking openly about our struggles is not welcome after all. Sad world we live in! I am, however, very glad to read your supportive comment! The gay community has generally a very distorted vision of what beauty is, of what perfection is and of what to strive towards. Most of this distortion leads people to feel and express hate towards others and themselves. Tragic. xoxo

@@SuperDacob Dakob, That's Really Sad about what KZbin did. Especially since Your Channel has so much fashion & other things. And Anorexia is a Very Big & Unhealthy Part of Fashion. I was in the Modeling & Fashion Industry 4 about 5 years in NYC & parts of it can be very destructive & you have to have a thick skin. Esp. 4 Female Models having to be so thin. I was out with a female model once & for dessert, She Literally had "Crushed Ice" !!! So this was a Good subject to address. I came across your channel when I was looking to get some info on nice Designer Wallets 4 my Husband. Well, the first couple of channels were so disturbing- they seemed intent on making people who couldn't afford, say a $100,000 watch, feel bad about themselves. But it was nice to see your channel in a sidebar & see your attitude on fashion. So Looking forward to new vids & watching some old. You have some great outfits on your Instagram (I especially liked the Vivienne Westwood bag). It's great that you do vids on Style not Money. Cheers, ❤️ Rob

Great video for May - Mental awareness month. It is important to talk about mental disorders and raise awareness. Society today tends to stigmatize mental issues and people are not talking about it. People need to realize that mental disorders are real and can affect anyone. Dealing with them increases quality of life of affected people but also people surrounding them - family, friends etc. Thank you for this video and good luck in Cannes!!

Thank you Bojana! We thought that talking about it really in the open, on the street with people around us would be a good way to spread the awareness that everybody should be free to openly talk about anything in the open. The stigma needs to go away! Only then will we have a better chance at making also the disorders go away! One step at a time :) xoxo

God bless you, Dacob and Nina, for keeping it real and opening up about this very serious illness. I know from struggling and coming to terms with my own addictions that it is through sharing with others what we have gone through so that we can help them is the same way that we also get the help we need. So good work! Keep it real always, and I hope you enjoyed your lunch! Lots of love! ❤️

I'm so happy that you and Nina seem to be in a healthy place where you both chose to be able to share your stories. Thank you for speaking about this. I suffered from this for over 25 years. I have been in recovery for about 5 years and have a beautiful healthy baby boy. Recovery is always possible. You just need a reason to do it for yourself. I wanted a family some day, and I wanted my family to have me too. I did it for them, which helped me do it for myself. All the best to you two. xx

Thank you both so much for opening up about this. Unfortunately, I have to say that I can relate to a lot of this. It, for me, was semeingly always caused by wanting to please others with how I look (at the start), with being attractive, obtaining that slim build, but for the most part to live up to those societal desires and standards. Society inflicts such an attitude on people, but youth, of all genders, are being caught in the crossfire off what's 'perfection'. Often, eating disorders are shunned or people just shrug it off, especially if you are a male or if it's a disorder such as EDNOS or BED. Taking a murderous illness and treating it like a joke is unforgivable and thus literally killing people in the process. A sick world we live in sometimes. While everyday does seemingly get a little easier, I know that it'll always be there. I'm scared because like Nina said, for me as well it was like a switch. One day, off. Done. But I know, especially with the world we live in, it may turn back on again. However, everything, to an extent, happens for a reason. Without this 'experience' I wouldn't be who I am today, nor have the passions in fashion, beauty, etc. As disgusting as it may sound, anorexia has shaped me into who I am. While I may be lucky, I know it'll be a never ending battle. Listening to what you both have to say was extremely touching and I hope that one day more awareness can be brought to this illness, mainly mental illnesses in general. Millions of people suffer each day with a countless number of mental illnesses yet it's still treated as taboo subject. Why?? Things must change, otherwise society will only crush more and more people. 😘😘♥️

Thank you so much for sharing with us Gavin! You are so right! This switch is now under a glass bell and the glass bell can brake and the switch can switch back on again. I think that is the reason we chose to share our struggles openly on the street and on KZbin: we wanted to also remind ourselves of how fragile that glass bell is! By talking about it we strengthen the walls of that glass bell and make just that tiny bit more resistant to cracks than it was yesterday :)
@gavinm6887
@gavinm6887 6 жыл бұрын
Super Dacob It most definitely does make that bell stronger! It's one of the most difficult things to go through, and yet so many go through it. Wishing you both love and strength! Let us never be consumed again by those thoughts and actions again! ♥️
