As a therapist myself, and with a call to advocate for mental health within the Church, I greatly appreciate with and wholeheartedly agree with what you explored and discussed here. Thanks for the crucial work you’re both doing in bringing healing and health to the warriors of the Kingdom.

We do suffer mental health problems from childhood to adulthood, in myself had these problems too, and struggled sever panic attacks off and on for over 27yrs, tried everything to relax, but never eased much, i was a broken lad growing up, i put on medications by doctors and specialist, i was taking pills from one month to another then one year to another and so on, and it controlled my life, i was abused as child and beaten by bullies, so what happens as a child effects you as you get older, i can say this without going into much detail, i was giving up in life, i had enough suffering from my scars deep inside myself, i did not know much on generational curses that gets past on in our life, until a woman came to me one night and showed me how to deal with it, through prayer, how to dissolve the heart of stone and receive a heart of flesh, for every trauma we build up in our life effects all that is around us and relationships, seek help, reach out, and be an ear for someone who will listen, pray for them as they talk and don't push your ideas on them, just listen to them and talk when they ask for guidance, oh the Lady that talked to me that night, Her Son suffered the most for us on the cross, and Her message to me was return the people back to my Son, i felt Her love and devotion from Her heart, this was 35yrs ago, please you don't have to believe a word i say here for i am use to being not believed, help those who need your prayer and show you care, Don't Give up and Don't Give In Jesus died on the cross to save us from sin.

I appreciate finding this channel from listening to interview on EWTN. I’m twice the age of you guys and going through it now. Got on a medication with side effects that made it worse. Fortunately I’ve been humbled by it and reached out to a Catholic therapist. I live alone. Terrible loneliness. Surrendering to God. I’m blessed with wonderful children and a couple good friends. Pray for me please. Scary time but it seems to be improving.

We have devotion to Our Lady of Consolation and Our Lady of Good Counsel already long before they see depression as a disease.

Well depression is an ILLNESS, not a disease. It can be very complex and quite often cannot be simply dealt with a devotion to anyone or anthing

Interesting timing. Fr Heilman and Doug Barry just posted a video (dec 1, 2021) about combatting the demons of anxiety.

It was good of you to speak on this subject, gentlemen. I have had my share of experience with both anxiety and depression, beginning in high school (though, I must have hid it well because I don't recall anyone expressing concern during that that span of four years). I've had anxiety/panic attacks intermittently, but usually as a result of coffee/caffeine (which I have stopped drinking for several months now). We seem to be living in what I would call a "psychological age", by which I mean that human behavior, personality, and the interior life is emphasized - and even explained - mostly in psychological terms (whether it's from the secular or the sacred spheres of society). Psychology also seems to be a rather popular major for college and graduate students to select as their primary course of study (myself included).

Thank you for being so open about your experiences. Thank you, Sam, for sharing some of your expertise and describing differences between mental health providers. You will help many clients. All the best in your counseling degree from Divine Mercy Institute. God bless you both and your families

I've been getting it despite my daily rosary and prayers . I haven't been able to go to mass by myself lately or even do other things I love. I just at home and usual errands . I was going to go to the theater with people I felt safe with and couldn't stop crying. I take my meds I walk. I have this before too. Losing my mom young she was young 3 years ago made things worst. It hasn't rocked my faith though but yet here I am on the same path I've been on since 17 now 41.

I called the counselling service a couple of days ago since my depression started to disturb my work (33 yo male). I am at the point when I think accidentally getting hit by a truck would be okay and not considered a sinful act. I am still joining the Christian community and routinely reading the bible. But as you said, it becomes a never-ending spiral since I automatically think I have less faith.
