This is definitely a problem. I got told this so many times in elementary school when I would consult a teacher and the only thing they would ever do is tell me they have a crush on me. This is a problem, and made me realize that teachers will not help you in a bully situation.

I saw someone say this on tik tok and I think its true. They said stop saying that when a girl or boy is mean to you it means they like you because its normalizing domestic violence. ITS SO TRUE because if you tell a young child that when people are mean to you it means they like you they will start to interpret signs of violence as love. I 100% feel Coleen's pain when she used to have anxiety when sleeping over at other people's houses. I remember having a great time but once the lights went out I would FREAK out. schools seem to care more about the bully and their improvement than the well-being of the victim/victims
@Melon_Cloud3 жыл бұрын
Yes! And when the victim (finally) stands up to the bully, the victim is punished! This happens so/too often! Which is so incredibly wrong. Do they not notice the real bullies? Especially if the victim finally stands up to them after a long time.. Do the teachers and school in general, not notice all the bullying that went on before this moment? How do they just only happen to see the moment the victim stands up for themselves and thus punish the victim? And not let the victim explain. Or let them explain and still punish. I really don’t understand. How can they not notice? I know bullies can be very sneaky, but still!And even if the bully is not sneaky, this still happens!.. Unbelievable!

I think Erik could have been joking here but at 24:03 when Colleen mentions that someone who bullied her in school dumped her in a trash can once, Erik says “maybe he had a crush on you.” I think this is a very skewed way of thinking that erases/excuses toxic masculinity. We have to remove the idea that men behave rudely with women that they are interested in. This kind of thinking allows us to excuse men’s inappropriate behaviour.
@TheBlissfullyDandy3 жыл бұрын
I think bullying is actually far better now, in spite of the internet factor. It used to be completely normal for kids to get the absolute crap beaten out of them, all of the time. Adults would never help, other kids would never befriend the bullied kids. That just isn't the norm anymore at all. Cyber bullying definitely sucks but things are much better now than they used to be.

My husband is 5’10” (I’m 4’10”) and says he is. My dad and father in law were/are both 6ft and are actually 6ft. Erik is looking FIIIIINE and his stories are so relatable.

I completely relate to the friends saying stuff that would scar you for life. My hair, my teeth, my weight. A few were friends who are still my friends to this day and have acknowledged and apologized for that. But a few were people that never cared for me just like you said. It's super hard. I understand Colleen!!

As a young high schooler, there are less in person bullies but they do still exist and they say MUCH worse than buttface

The topic of bullying and haters hits home with so many people. Too many, IMO. It’s sad to think about people bringing others down for whatever reason. It definitely helps when you have a good, positive support system. ❤️

I loved changing the bands on my braces! Also, I think I was an anomaly because I loved everything about my braces and wish I had them longer 😩

I *LOVE* that you brought up sibling bullying!!! Me & my sister are 1 Y & 6M apart (she's older) and she used to bully me *a lot* when we were younger (on top of the kids at school bullying me. She & I are close but only in a "family way", not in an emotional way (if that makes any sense) but I'm okay with our relationship now even though she wishes we were closer I was bullied all throughout school but it was @ it's worse during high school! I agree with this new age of bullying is a whole different world, especially being online. Shit is crazy! Thank you so much for brining this topic up this episode!!!!

On the height thing: I’m 5’8” and considered on the short end for men. It’s because girls don’t like short guys. It bothers us because we feel insecure about it. It’s just a social construct that we have adopted today. I hate it and think it’s dumb but it’s just the way it is I guess.

You should look for less superficial women then :) not every woman needs a man to be tall to be attracted to him.

Okayyyyy guys.. Only some of the eggs at McDonald's are microwaved lol I used to work there. Unless something has drastically changed in the last 7 years which is possible. The sausage egg mcmuffin and egg mcmuffin have real eggs cracked into a circle on the grill. The egg white delight is carton egg whites. The microwaved eggs are the folded eggs on the biscuit items and the mcgriddles. Long story short ask to sub round egg on every sandwhich to get fresh eggs! "Round egg" is a fresh cracked egg that is cracked into a "mold" on the grill as mentioned above😊

regarding the intro- as a former McDonald’s manager, we actually use real eggs and crack them and cook the eggs on the grill😂 they look and feel like rubber, i know. and they’re terrible

I love that Erik doesn't like to be the center of attention and has all those stories about being horrified about being called on in school, yet he is such an amazing actor. Its like being 'in front of the class' everyday of filming. 😂

Lol there are definitely girls who lie about their height. Me specifically lol. I’m actually 5’11”. But through years of bad posture and purposely trying to make myself seem shorter, I now say I’m on the tall side of 5’9” 😂😂
@moyaxoxo59233 жыл бұрын
exactly. all tall girls round down at some point. just like short guys round up. because tall men are viewed more desirable as are small petit women. unfortunately.

I was also bullied by a teacher in Adult ED school...the teacher's main source of test taking was "Verbal", so he would call you to his desk and ask you the test questions outloud and not just quietly, but loudly and then you would answer and in the event that you got the answer wrong, he would make fun of you AND encourage your fellow classmates to assist him in making fun of you for not knowing the answer.... I remember my last time in his class-- he made me feel very stupid for not understanding something and he said to me LOUDLY "Are you kidding me? You don't know this?" And he asked a fellow classmate "You know this right?" And the classmate laughed and said yeah and the entire class and the teacher laughed at me and one classmate called me stupid....and I started crying and he then told me if I didn't like his way of test taking then I can leave and so I picked up my things and left for good his class....

The patriarchy made the beauty standard that woman should be smaller (in height but all aspects of their life) but this beauty standard for woman made by men. Affects men in that they have a pressure to be tall!

I'm thirteen and I've experienced bulling were people would air punch and mock me when they pass me in the hall. However, I've noticed that one someone mocks something you say just put your hand to you chest blink then look at them and say, 'Wow, I'm flattened that you still remember I said that '

All these comments of people in school getting bullied hurts my heart :( I hope you all know that whatever people say about you does not reflect who you are. You’re more than the things they make you insecure about

I am in my first year of high school (in Australia high school in grade 7 to 12) and there are people who don’t call you a butt head but call you cuss words and just pick on you and always look for something to tease you about, that’s a bully in real life not on the internet. Here’s the answer to your question I hope this helped and guys please get this to the top so Colleen can see it and understand. Make Colleen see it guys ❤️❤️

The teacher flipping desks over reminded me of my 4th grade teacher who would throw school supplies across the room if she caught you playing with them and one time she threw two meter sticks across the room and one hit my face and gave me a black eye but she was still allowed to be a teacher and I feel so bad for the kids in that class everyday

Colleen! Very relatable. My biggest insecurities are the things my friends joked with me about as a teen. Never thought of it that way… Love listening to these podcasts. It’s like hanging with friends.
