Thanks Gabe, you talked about exactly what I experienced with my Discus when I first got them. I've had them since late November of 2018. Feeding time can get quite roudy. I use two cone feeders now, and it's the wierdest thing, the second most dominant fish tries to dominate the second feeder. I really only notice the aggressive behavior when I use the cone feeders. I intervene when necessary to make sure all 6 fish get the food they need. Thanks again for the video. You nailed it!

Awesome video as usual your topic is spot on! Gabe you know your stuff!! And it’s awesome that you also love to share your love! We all appreciate it. There is so much info out there and much of it is not that great. Your videos are exactly what anyone who loves discus need to know. Gabe as you know I’ve definitely had this problem and your advice is totally true. I move them around and add one but generally keeping tanks with similar colors seem to be my magic in large group (but I never over crowd) ! Great video and thank you so much for sharing it is appreciated! I watch every one!

When i see your Videos it allways remembers me when my friend had his big Discus Tank. It was 3.6m long and 0.8m high and with. I rembember bringing that in through the window and three years later it was the beautiest tank i have ever seen. The whole lengs with plants everywhere,40cm plants in the background are high plants. Some times you cant see any discus and people asking " Are there big fishs in? ". Then he brings some food and out of the green coming 10 beautiful and big pairs of discus, then the eyes of the people getting bigger and bigger. He paid here in germany round 5000€ only for plants the most expensive pair of discus was 1400€

I had one big red discus (more or a purple really) who was so aggressive, he was like a Red Devil. I tried everything that Gabe is suggesting here but he would continually pick on another male in the tank to the point where he was totally beaten up, his lips were frayed from fighting all day and he had scales missing. In the end, I got rid of the big male who was a fish that i loved - he was so tame he not only eat out of my hard, he would swim into my hand like he wanted me to nurse him!
@CrowntailHalfmoon5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Mr Gabe Could you explain how you culture red worms that u fed in video? Correct me if I'm wrong but From my experience it's best to have about 6 to 8 individuals when starting discus at various sizes some big some medium and so on. Everyone wantes big discus even myself but after learning hard way most of bigger ones from spawn tends to be males and with a tank of only males testosterone grows into aggression. Also as you mentioned of the ranking status i had one that wouldn't grow beyond a certain size and would get bully by rest. I felt sad and removed it. Know what next happened the smallest size one got bullied. Key is to have appropriate stocking requirements and various sizes. Definitely not 2 in one tank unless its a pair. IMO If you want to grow the 2 individual they should be separated. Hope this helps some1.

I have 4 adult discus. One is obviously smaller though. She is very thin. The other discus chase her away if she tries to eat. I try to play the psychologist and put food in two opposing sides of the tank. She is definitely going to die if I let it continue. Should I put the 3 aggressors in a separate tank or the one that is getting torn apart? The 3 aggressors are beating the heck of her. They also mob attack her.

My male Discus is 4yrs now and when I bought him there was two of them one male and one female. I have never kept Discus before but other tropical fish I've kept. The Discus were young juveniles at the time and I had known Idea they were going to grown so big and beautiful. One day as they got older the male started picking on the female and I thought oh well breeding is on and I've experienced Angels breeding before. The male just kept bullying the female eventually she died lack of food and became very thin from the stress. I had no other tank at the time to move the male Discus. Latter on I added some younger Discus to tank and He started to bully them too and they ended also dying. This Discus lives on his own in a nice planted community tank and is the boss of the tank. I would love to add more Discus to this tank or move him in eventually to my Altums tanks planted. I think I will start the Altums tanks with new Discus first and see latter on If he wi'll adapt. My Discus is a pigeon blood and of good quality too it would of been nice if he had a female to mate with this Discus came from a good breeder in Asia as I'm told.

My discus have claimed little areas of the tank and 1 has no place. No matter where it goes it gets attacked regardless. They are young, only 3 inches. The big one is 5 inches and does not hurt the other smaller discus. I've separated the most aggressive discus because it would go out of it's way to attack the other small discus. Even so, the one discus that has no place of it's own is still getting beat up and not eating. I've never seen a starving fish until this discus, because it's gotten to the point where it just doesnt eat. Even when I put food in a spot where only it is at, it'll try, fail to eat, and just go back down and look stressed.

I'm kind of dealing with this right now, part from one discus bullying, four of mine are total a-holes. 264 gallons, 18 discus, 6 young ones. The biggest problems are with the, for a lack of a better word, "third wheels". 1 pair that spawn regularly, another pair were happy for a while until a young female wanted this male, and all hell broke loose. The two girls (seen eggs come out of them both so I know they are girls) fought so intensely, the now ex-girlfriend hurt herself badly on the talawa wood, and had to be treated in a separate tank. She got well and got back in the tank. Things got even worse. Then this other pair, the oldest male and the oldest female, have a young male that tries to get her and is constantly bothering them, and is being very aggressive towards all the other discus when they cross "his" half of the tank. The other half is being ruled by this nasty young bi*#h, so the rest of the pack are so stressed out, they try to hide most of the time. Like this would not be enough, I have 2 orange melon teenagers that seems to be bullying everybody as well as each other. Is there any particular color of discus that has the tendency to be aggressive, ore is it just a co-incident that my white ghosts and orange melons are the most snappy ones, while all the blue turquoise and blue diamonds are trying to stay away from trouble..? This has been going on for a couple of months already, and I'm starting to get pretty tired of this situation, and if things don't cool down soon, the evil 4 will have to move out. Here I was thinking angels were nasty! The age of my discus are between five years and one-one and a half
