This guy has been working with discus for well over 20 years, not as a hobbyist but in a professional capacity. He has probably forgotten more about discus than most of us will ever know. I was amazed at what he said about doing only 20% water changes once a week. This flies in the face of the advice given by most 'experts', the video I watched before this was advocating 90% water changes every day. I'm sure for a lot of potential owners (me included) this is the one thing that would put them off starting.
@JackWattleyDiscus5 жыл бұрын
Agreed and that's why I decided to make the videos. The hobby will never grow if we make it impossible with erroneous information which will chase potential hobbyists away.

This is all past down from the man himself. Back in the 80s my grandpa took me as a 10yr old to Jack Wattley’s house in South FL. I had his book and he was a god to me, he autographed my book, took me around his fish room while telling stories of his Amazonian adventures and gave me a couple freebies on top of what I took home. The man, the legend

I had the big pleasure to meet Jack Wattley in New York early 90s in a Discus Study Group international meeting and then again in Singapore Aquarama in 1993...I think. I used to breed his giant Blue discus (blue diamond) so I was looking forward to meet and talk away with Jack and this is what happened in both occasions. Smidth-Focke and Wattley were the only top discus breeders in all planet earth...way before all Malaysia Thailand and Hong Kong breeders pop out... Great man Jack, very gentle and very polite, always ready for an advice. Keep it up dude...

Aquarium Co-Op Hey co-op i barley started getting into this hobby, I have 3 rainbow sharks, 4 diano zebras, 2 loaches and a pleco. I have a filter and air pump running. My water is starting to turn into some greyish kinda color, do you have any advice on how to keep the water crystal clear? Do I need some other kind of pump? Edit: I’m also using sand instead of gravel (ik sand is hard to maintain clean)
