My hamster died today and I had no idea I’d be so devastated. I miss her, my daughter misses her, and it’s especially difficult knowing I won’t get to hear her rustle around tonight in her cage or running on her wheel. If you’re dealing with a similar loss, I hope you’re doing okay, know you’re sad because you had the privilege to love and be loved by such a precious and small creature and that it’s okay to cry. my hamster passed away yesterday. i can’t stop crying, i miss her so much. it felt so weird sleeping and not hearing her running in her wheel. she was so sweet, and helped me smile in moments i felt like everything was going wrong. i loved her, and i tried to give her the best life. she was just old, i bought her in petco but she was already an adult. at least she passed knowing that i loved her more than anything. i’m gonna miss cuddling with her and when she would fall asleep on my shoulder :(

People say I'm "cruel" because I don't get super emotional when I talk about my lost pets. I cried when they passed but I'd rather think of them in a more positive light. My hardest loss was Pauline, who was my heart hamster. I'd only had her for 6 months but she was so special to me. She died suddenly when I was away and had a friend petsitting, and learned about it over a phone call. I think it was more hard because I wasn't there and wasn't able to bury her or see her one more time. Another thing is that people think it's bad that I tend to get a hamster soon after losing one. It's not like I'm like "well, little Fluffy here died, time to replace him" right away. But after about a week or two I'm ready to start looking for another one. I like having hamsters, and don't want to be without one for long periods of time. It helps me cope and feel better knowing that while my previous pet is gone, there is always new life and that I can give another hamster a good life. Obviously I still love my previous hamsters and think fondly of them, but I can still love a new one and create more happy memories.

Same when animals pass there's always a rainbow after my cat sadly died on last year's Christmas I was crying non stop but I've always wanted a hamster and finally I have one then my sister's bearded dragon passed but my two goldfish got her big tank i like to say pets pass so brighter things can happen they passed too early but they gave a longer and happier life to two animals :)

Thank you for all your videos! Our family Syrian hamster just passed away. Greg lived for 2years and 3 month. The boys first pet. He had lots of fluid in his belly and last week the vet took the liquid out. Week later he died peacefully. Kids got to hold their hamster for the last hours. Your videos was so helpful. He had a amazing life ! His cage was bigger than our apartment 😊. He was the sweetest with the kids. We will dearly miss him.

I got my first hamster as a birthday present for my 10th birthday, and I've had them continuously ever since. I'm in my early 30's now, so that's 20+ years of hamsters. I agree, the deaths don't get easier as you get older. In fact, I'd say it gets worse, because as you get older, time seems to pass quicker. The short lives of hamsters is just something you gotta accept, but it really sucks.

I’m glad that you still have Little Bear to be there for you while you cope with Basil’s death. I always think having more than one animal is helpful when one passes because then you don’t all of a sudden feel so lonely because there is still the presence of another animal there. My guy’s only 3 months old, but I know that when he passes I will be devastated. I hope that one day when I’m on my own and have the proper resources I’ll be able to care for more than one hamster at a time.

I am so sorry about Basil’s loss. I love this tribute, I think it really celebrates his life and remembers him in a happy way. He was such a lovely hamster, may he Rest In Peace. Also, thank you for sharing your coping methods and for just openly talking about pet loss in general. I find that for a lot of people it is a hard topic to confront, but you did it in a very nice way. Death is part of the cycle of life, and for me personally, it really helps a lot when it comes to dealing with it, even though it is still sad. I lost my baby girl March 10th she was about 3 years or so. Her name was Zoey. I had to put her down cause I felt she was in pain. She was an amazing hamster though. The first time I got a hamster I didn't get Zoey for years though but when I got Peachy it was about a month or so (they told me she about 4 months) because I just needed someone in my room and it helps me with my depression and anxiety if I have a pet. It is 2021 right now, your won’t see this. But my hamster snowy passed away yesterday, I had her for almost 3 years, when I adopted her, she might of been a few months old, but I’m not sure, so she might of been 3 years old already. This made me remember all of my hamsters who had passed away. My first one lived 4 years my second and third one 3 years. Fourth one 3 years. Fifth and sixth are still alive and are 4 years old. This made me go give them some extra treats for being so strong and brave all their life and kept me company so long.
