What if you're stabbing yourself or cursing at yourself when you remember all those bad things in life or things you blame yourself for? Would that count as a sort of mental illness or extreme insecurity?

People do these kinds of things because they are deep down, caring and kind people. But, the guilt & shame from the past cause you to try to punish yourself for the bad things you have done. This does not fix or heal the problem though. Keep seeking help. There is hope to break free from these things. Asking for forgiveness helps, also, do not forget to forgive yourself. The Lord is willing to heal these things as you seek Him, ask Him (for help), & forgive. He can heal the pain & the wounds that cause this type of behavior in the 1st place. He is willing when you are ready. Face Truth & confess the sins of your past. Confession brings true repentance. Repentance brings true healing, getting us back to the kind & compassionate people we were born to be.
