I happen to favour the latter system, as it gives a good balance -- allowing prisoners who truly reform and try to better themselves a reasonable opportunity of leaving while keeping the more high-risk offenders away indefinitely.

The system in the US and my country, Australia, is as fair as you can make it. You don't go without representation if you can't afford it, it is funded for you. Yes it isn't as good as it would be if you were paying. But it is free. Medical care is not as good if you are in the public system in Australia as if you are private and have your own doctor. But it is still care and it has saved my life 3 times. He is put down like an old horse? Well an old horse didn't torture and murder,so it deserves better not worse.

What the parole board is interested in is evidence to show that Matt Poncelet is not guilty.The talk of execution being cruel or how good Mr Poncelet was when he was young does not enter into it.The penalty for murder in Louisiana is death and it was proven that he was guilty.Not that I agree with it but the law is what it is.

Believe it or not, it is cheaper to warehouse someone in prison for life, than it is to put them to death, via “Capital Punishment.” Lastly, there are some inmates that would prefer being put to death, rather than being warehouses in prison for the rest of their natural life. So once again, for an individual that has been “righteously convicted” of murder, life in prison is more effective than “Capital Punishment.”

Yes and No - Poncelet is an amalgamation of Sonnier and Robert Lee Willie. They changed it from electric chair to lethal injection so viewers wouldn’t use the Out of ‘well we don’t do it that way anymore…’
