I worked with Dean as his occasional opening act in nightclubs in the late 1960's, having been introduced to him by Joey Bishop. Being a teenager at the time, he was incredibly kind and generous to me. There was a sense of him having certain private parts to him that we never discussed. Dean loved Westerns and loved my surrogate uncle, western actor Ben Johnson, and we talked about western movies and television shows often. One thing I will never forget. I opened for Dean at Atlantic City's 500 Club when the owner was in financial troubles, and I found out later that Dean took a smaller paycheck for it but paid my full salary out of his own pocket.

So close, that Patti, Jerry's lovely first wife ,called Dean her husbands “other wife” After the split in 1956, Dean retaliated by making hurtful remarks about Jerry, just like scorned lovers do. The story is told that Dean was an easy going, courteous fellow. I heard of a man who was sent to work on Dean's air conditioning unit, and Dean hung out in the yard with him chatting it up and even handed him his tools and stuff. Afterwards Dean treated him to cold one and made him comfortable while he drank it. The man passed the word that Dean was great to hang out with. I heard it from a friend in the A/C business who lived in Las Vegas. For some reason I don't imagine that Jerry Lewis was as considerate to the Average Joes with whom he came into contact.

His kids swear by him. His daughter Dina said, "Don't expect any "Daddy dearest" revelations from us." His son said he was not a boozer and that it was all an act. That when he performed in Las Vegas it was good for business if Dean looked like his drinking whiskey straight. But it was actually apple juice. He said his father's real life persona is totally different from his on onstage performance. Other than for show he really did not get into The Rat Pack. A reporter in LA summed it up by writing, Sammy wanted to be Frank, Frank wanted to be Dean and Dean wanted to be home. Dean Martin said in the Martin Lewis films he did not really have any lines. The film and the script was all planned out by Jerry. Those films were all Jerry films and Dean was just his side kick. In those films, Jerry would say something like, "I'm going to the drug store and I would say, "Oh, you're going to the drug store." and Jerry would take it from there.

I guess they enjoyed watching me laugh uncontrollably at Lewis. As I got older I didn't care for Lewis at all, becoming more of a fan of Martin. My wife and I enjoyed his TV show in the '60s & '70s. He had such a terrific voice that stood out among other singers of that era. "Memories Are Made of This" (written by Terry Gilkyson, Richard Dehr & Frank Miller) was my favorite. On this song Dean was accompanied by Terry Gilkyson and the Easy Riders and I later became a fan of Terry's daughter, Eliza.

I loved Dean Martin's Matt Helm movies. They were James Bond + humour/very funny. My Mom's sister married a man who resembled Dean Martin, although he was Latin, he sang and played the guitar and entertained us all the time. When I was very young I thought my Uncle was my uncle, except for when he was on TV he was Dean Martin. Somehow that made sense to me at a young age, but grew to understand they were not the same person. My uncle told me he was a “bull thrower” and I thought he was one-step above a Matador, because he actually grabbed the bull by the horns and threw it. I later realized he meant that he told tall tales. I also remember seeing Dean Martin singing on TV throughout much of my life and my parents liked him too. We thought he was drunk, but my uncle was drunk a lot too, so it seemed normal. lol. Although no one in my immediate family drank. When I moved to another state for about 9 months, my new doctor's name was Dean Martin. The first time I met him I said, "When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie" and the doctor replied by singing, "That's Amore". Brilliant. Very sad, the passing of Dean's son. I grew up in the Air Force and my brother-in-law was an F-15E pilot. When my brother-in-law retired, he had more combat hours in the F-15 than all the pilots in the Air Force. After retiring, he taught the flight simulator to new pilots and also flew for Fed-X. While on a few days off at Fed-X's hub in Memphis, TN, he rented a single engine plane and crashed 11 miles from the airport and was killed. Apparently, the wings snapped. When I got the phone call, I collapsed onto the floor and screamed out in broken sorrow. Losing him has affected our family deeply - we all loved him very much. I can only imagine what it would be like to lose a child, so that part of Dean Martin's story brought on tears of empathy. I completely understand his refusal to have the surgery and allow cancer to run its course.

This only hints at the fact that Lewis was hard to put up with, and gives no idea of how hard. One example: Jerry and Dean had a skit that called for Dean to run backstage and reappear in a complete change of costume, in less than 30 seconds. One night Dean exited the stage, went to the change area, kicked off his street shoes, changed into a tux, jammed his feet into dancing shoes and rushed back on stage, where he tap danced, muttering unrepeatable expletives at Lewis. Ol' Jerry had stuck a raw egg into each of Dean's dancing shoes before going on stage. Dean was not amused.

When Dean passed in late 1995, Jerry was coming back from being overseas and hit with the news from a heartless reporter. Lewis made Martin a very rich man. Their getting together was actually an accident. They met on some circuit or other, Lewis was working in Atlantic City (neither was famous) and a vacancy came open for a singer, so Jerry recommended Dean, saying to the bar owner that they’d do something together. Dean came, sang, they did nothing together, and the bar owner approached Jerry and said “Do something together like you promised or else, and I mean immediately.” The bar owner was connected. Jerry and Dean decided to work something out with Dean as straight man and scribbled a few notes on a bag from a pastrami sandwich. The first night they had an audience of three. They started experimenting and kept going for I think over three hours, and those three people were laughing too hard to breathe. Though Jerry was the comedian, Dean had amazing timing. The way Jerry envisioned it, he was the monkey and Dean was the matinee idol. The second night there were nine or ten people in the audience, the third night there were thirty. By the fourth night there were people in the industry in California who knew who they were, and by the end of the second week they were booked into the Copacabana in New York. Their rise was literally exponential. We think of Frank and Dean as the original Rat Pack friendship but it wasn’t; the first friendship in the Rat Pack (before it was the Rat Pack, obviously) was Frank and Sammy. Dean may have been Jerry’s straight man, but he was a gifted comic. Look up Frank and Dean crashing a Johnny Carson Tonight Show. Dean is amazingly funny.

I caught one big error. In this video the narrator says Jerry Lewis started treated everyone badly and said to Dean " to me you're nothing but a f-----g dollar sign." Wrong! It was Dean who told Jerry that! If she was so off on that you have to wonder what else she got wrong.

It's a robo-voice just reading what some schmuck wrote badly. I just saw another one where they called Marlon Brando, "Brandon". In this one, the voice says something about someone named, Shintara. I THINK they were trying to say, "Sinatra".

@@RedVynili was just gonna say that. Im trying to find a good narrator app. At first i thought like morgan freeman was actually narrating some youtube videos, only to find out its an app. Lol

@@RobSlopezJr I do voice acting. At the moment, I'm trying to get rid of a cold. Once that's gone, I'm back in the saddle again. Out where an Indian's your friend! Where the vegetables are green, and you can pee right into the stream! I'm back from the shadows again!

This is just another documentary on Dean. It didn't reveal who he hated. Even with Jerry Lewis it didn't seem like hate. Maybe the title was just used to get people to view it.

Dean Martin was a great entertainer and had many close celebrity friends. Looks like we are just trying to get attention and clicks for this channel.🙃

I think Jerry was overbearing and wanted to take charge of their act. I believe Dean just had enough of the petty crap and just wanted to sing. Dean did several movies and had his own variety show. It's obvious who had the real talent. "Old Blue Eyes" got them to make up but I'm sure the old feelings and how they felt about each other was not the same. Dean was so cool and laid back and Jerry was chaotic and wanted all the attention. Dean was a good man, He was handsome, funny, and had a voice like velvet. He was a good husband and father. LOVE YOU,, DEAN.

Lewis probably was convinced he was funny. But the truth is, he never was confronted with his incapacity to realize he was mostly laughed down. No wonder Lewis ended a bitter old man.

One of the reasons Dean Martin quit his partnership with Jerry Lewis, is because Lewis became too big for his boots. There were times when Martin came up with a funny one liner and the producer would say excellent and Lewis tried to distract this to be used in the script by pretending he had a stomach ache.

I think this narration might be AI generated. At around 14 minutes, she mispronounces 'Sinatra' as 'Sintara'. I doubt that any one who speaks English as well as the narrator would not catch that typo in her script and actually read it verbatim.

Dean hated cops more than Jerry it took series of times and directors to tell him to wear one . On one condition he mocks them. True story !

I watched this video and I'd like to know who Dean Martin 'hated. "Dean Martin Truly Hated Him More Than Anyone.." and yet that subject isn't even mentioned. I'm beginning to think that this channel may be 'clickbait' based on the episodes that I've watched.

FYI: When Jerry Lewis had his quadruple by-pass heart surgery, Dean called the hospital several times to ask how he was doing, and give Lewis his best. But he couldn't get through. Why? Because each time when he informed the operator who he was, the operator responded "Yeah, sure" and hung up on him. I'll bet Jerry never let Dean forget that one.

Two things I remember. One is after Dean showed up on the Jerry Lewis telethon, after he left the stage, Lewis looked into the camera and said "I'll still never work with that drunk again". Another on was in a promo, Lewis stole the great line Martin had said the day before in rehersal and got a rousing ovation. The director said that was great and do it again just like that tomorrow. When the real one went down, as the moment came, Lewis blurted it out. Martin just brushed it off.
