A very impressive demonstration of the HM7000 Dave. As you know I’ve fitted a number of these decoders to my locos and have been very impressed with them. As you rightly said for the price it’s definitely a no brainier. The sound produced even from the smallest enclosure as you have to use in the 08 definitely elevates the model to another level. I cancelled my pre-order for this Haymarket 08 only when Bachmann announced their new Haymarket based 08 as I couldn’t really afford both models. However, having watched your video I think I’ll soon be buying an HM7000 to upgrade my Hornby TTS sound 08. The upgrade in sound of the HM7000 over TTS is very impressive. Some of your subscribers might also like to know that locos with larger space to locate speakers / enclosures can benefit from upgrading the speaker as supplied. One of the best known online speaker / decoder suppliers even offers free speaker upgrades if you purchase the HM7000 supplied with the Hornby plug to connect to the decoder so no soldering required.

Aww, that livery on an 08 brings back some very find memories of catching trains at the local station. A very similar, if a trifle larger replica of this little ripper was the station pilot - back when a shunter was needed at every halt, almost. The only difference being - and I could not tell you why, ours had yellow side rods. The first time I saw it in the mid ‘80s, very oddly, I thought it was the most industrial engine I’d seen yet very modern at the same time - which of course it wasn’t :) :) I’ve loved the little things ever since. As for Hornby’s HM decoders, I’m amazed that they’ve not been as big a hit as I expected, considering their flexibility with other brands etc.If you don’t like the phone controls I’d gamble my last quid that someone will make a traditional style controller with Bluetooth function. If they don’t, I’LL make you one :) :) Whomever you may be :)

Impressive "how to" guide. The loco looks and sounds great for the money. I've just pre-ordered the recently announced Hornby Railroad EWS-livered Gronk (I'm not a huge fan of the EWS livery, so for £50-odd, this was a cost-effective way of filling a gap in my the collection, and it'll look fine clagging around the layout from a distance of 3 feet). It has a Next 18 socket, but as there is a sound version available, so I guess it fits in just as well as in it did in your 8 pin example. Not that I'm planning on doing it any time soon.

A long wait indeed for your 08. I think you will find it was worth it, even though old it is still a very good model and I think better than the Bachmann one. I will not buy this one but may get a sound decoder for the first one I bought the other has a TTS sound chip which after changing some sound settings I am happy with.

Love to see you at it again, personally I'm saving up for a Hornby class 755. as they run in area were my layout is based and compered to the 2 car DMU Bachmann prices I believe it probably worth it as they even meant have working Door interlock light and looking a the Bachmann DBSO, it steel looks cheaper in comparison for what you get, though I was wondering how you would go about sound Chipping it with the HM7000 as you really need 3 speakers as you have the central engine then the real life powered bogies at each end.

My experience with HM7000 can best be described as a damp squib. It sells you the world with its costless sound profiles and the cheap upfront price, but you do really get what you pay for, or rather, what you don't pay for. I found I had to reset the chip I got multiple times now, and frankly I'm a bit miffed that I have to use the app on a mobile device which is not my own, because between all the Samsung devices, the contemporary one to the HM7000 system, the A14, is seemingly still not supported.

Hi Dave, I installed the HM7000 into my “train set” 08, complete with the stay-alive. You think you had a tight fit, mine was a real squeeze but I got there and it functions like a champion
@DeanPark12 күн бұрын
Where did you fit the stay alive?
@brucewoods937712 күн бұрын
@ well there is no real cabin on a train set Class 08 so I got the AE?? Stay alive from DCC Concepts (two very small capacitors on their own fly leads), and I stuffed them in the cab as low as possible
@modelrailwaynoob13 күн бұрын
I like this livery and have looked at it a few times but it is expensive for the size of the locomotive. I've just put a couple of HM7000 into two class 08s. I had removed a speaker from a factory fitted class 08 recently, so I was looking specifically at using the same space with the HM7000 enclosures.
@DeanPark12 күн бұрын
Size doesn’t seem to matter in terms of cost these days! A class 20 for example….the price of them used to be less coz it was smaller, not now! Think most of the cost goes into the manufacture and especially assembling all the Tiny parts, hence costs no matter how small the model is seems not to matter as much. If that makes sense? Cheers. Dave

Ah Dave, you missed disconnecting the pipes at the front before removing the body, I saw one come off, not sure about the other. Also you will find you should have fitted the stay alive as the sound does tend to cut out on the slightest of dirt, well at least mine does :)

Great video here Dave, I current have 6 locos with hornbys HM7000TXS decoders and overall they are very good, wouldn’t mind getting an 08 sound fitted as there are some sounds that I really do like, the horns and whistles mainly, when it comes to the 08 though I currently only have an old bachmann one but it isn’t dcc ready so to dcc it I would have to hardwire it and I don’t know how to do that right now, I have thought about maybe trying the next 18 method which would involve getting a female next 18 connector then re soldering the wires from the pickups and the motor but then will the Next 18 decoder fit, as I say I might look at this as I would quite like to have a sound 08 at some point, really like this one in the swallow livery, great video overall Dave.

Do you have to program the chip I’ve never fitted a dcc loco before and idk if you need to code it
@DeanParkКүн бұрын
Hi. You need to link the hm7000 to your phone if you want to download the correct sound. But if it’s a normal decoder, you can just use it as it is. It will always come as address 3. So that’s all that needs changed. And that can be done through any Dcc controller. If you keep it at address 3 and have two locos fitted with a decoder then both will move when you control loco address 3! Which isn’t ideal :-)
