There's no harm in being a perfectionist Dave...it certainly pays off when you see the results....Another very interesting video...Regards...Bob

Hi Bob. It has its benefits, but also its drawbacks lol. Progress can be slow when you're always looking for perfection....but I like to get as close to it as my skills allow. Dave

Hi Mark, Wow, thanks. That is great praise, so thank you. I will cover the fixing down of the ballast in my next update....currently doing a little more ballasting and painting of retaining walls....which is a long task! lol. Dave

Very neat and tidy ballasting. I see you put a lot of time and effort into the finish of all your projects and the little extra methods you include for finishing the ballast neatly are very helpful.

Dave the proportions and balance of the wall look very good. I hope you don't mind I have a couple of comments relating to your commentary, the concrete cable route is known as troughing, orange piping is used to reach discrete items of equipment and not part of the containment route. Where the cable route has to cross track a UTX undertrack crossing is used. The term ballast shoulder refers to profiled ballast which appears as a heat alongside the track. The weight of the shoulder provides restraint to lateral forces applied from the track either from trains or thermal affects on curved track.

Great video again Dave. Just concerned about the MDF. When you paint your walls you may want to paint or varnish the MDF. I didn't on something simular when I made a low relief warehouse and the moisture from the loft made the wood expand and before I knew it the plastic card popped off. Vanished the second attempt and seems to be holding up better? Keep up the fantastic work Matt!
@DeanPark
@DeanPark 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for that. Yeah I am going to give the back of the mdf a coat of undercoat outdoor primer to seal it. Thanks for the advice. I don't have too much moisture in the loft thanks to the silver insulation lining, its more cold and in the summer dry heat, but I know exactly what you mean. MDF doesn't like water lol. Dave

Nice update Dave. The track looks great.Two questions. Do you not glue the ballast down at all? Just thinking in future if you need to vacuum the track for any reason you will loose all that work. The second question is about the back scene you have I believe the polymer type. I just wondered what you fixed the back to? I am looking to replace my paper ones due to they have warped with a little damp I have in the garage. I originally attached them to a soft thin board back which has also warped over time. I am thinking of replacing the back boards with plastic sheeting cut to measure. You learn a lot with modelling overtime! I understand the ID back scenes are also self adhesive? Hope you don't mind me asking? Many thanks Richard
@DeanPark
@DeanPark 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard, Ok....Bllast, yeah I glue it down with the usual 50/50 PVA/water mix, just didn't cover it in this video. If I didnt it would blow away when I airbrush weathered it lolThe ID Backscenes are self adhesive ones attached to 5mm ply, which has been primed and painted with GLOSS finish. Self adhesive likes something glossy but not matt. the paint goes on with a mini roller, so no brush marks, gives a smooth enough finish. MDF is smoother than ply, ie no 'wood grain' but MDF warps easier than Ply if in big sheets, so I have been told. Hope this helps?, if not, get back in touch. Cheers, happy to help. Dave

How do you cut the cork when track is on it
@DeanPark

I put a pen line about 2mm from the end of the sleepers and use a Stanley blade. Keep changing it as cork blunts the blade! Cheer.

DaveClass47 great videos. I watched them all up to this one. Soon be up to date :). With my ballasting i put gaffa tape under the track and made it extra sticky with a hair dryer. I made my folage out of the inside of a teddy bear. I mixed it in a blender then mixed it with different green paints
