English: Vienna Schnitzel is more a Tourist food... For me the best food in Austria is "Backhendl" (It's Chicken), "Kaiserschmarrn" (like pankaces) and "Spätzle"! German: Wiener Schnitzel ist eher ein Touristen Essen... Für mich ist das beste Essen aus Österreich "Backhendl" (Huhn), "Kaiserschmarrn" (wie Pfannkuchen/ Palatschinken) und "Spätzle"! Sorry if my English is not so good but I'm only 14 and speak to 98% German With friendly greetings from Vienna Justin XY

Actually the Belvedere was the Residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663-1736) who actually built (actually "let built" of course) this place. He was "Generalissimo" (= highest General) of the Austrian Army and he defeated the Turks several times who took over the Balkan and half of Hungary. He forced them back from Hungarian soil and also liberated Belgrad and most of the Balkan as well down to todays Bosnia and Macedonia which stayed under the Ottoman controll till the 20th century respectively till WW1. After his death (infirmity of old age and not in battle as you might think) the Habsburg royal family took over the castle because he died as unmarried old bachelor with no family. (He was a very small dwarf- like unpleasant looking guy).but just non ruling Habsburgians lived there for a while.. most of the time Belvedere castle was uninhabitated and used as so to say a storing-place for the Habsburgian´s objects of value. (a bunch of furniture of all kind and a bunch of paintings and a bunch of horse- carriages and stuff like that)..it was simply spoken Habsburg´s walk-in closet.
@michaelgrabner89775 жыл бұрын
Schnitzel simply means "cutlet" derived from the verb "schnitzen" which means "to cut" or "to carve"..and "the original Wiener Schnitzel" is not pork but veal...but for the common Viennese the pork variation is more common simply because of the price of the meat...the original veal variation is feast-meal for special occasions. By the way the best one in taste is fried in clarified butter (Butterschmalz)..but today that is rare to find in Viennese restaurants because although it is tremendous good it is then heavy to digest (the typical food where you need a Schnaps for digestion afterwards) and has a tremendous huge amount of calories..and restaurants like to sell a dessert as well..but that is then nearly impossible...it´s more a formerly times repectively homemade Grandma´s cooking thing so to say. And about the wavy breadcoat...Well it has to be wavy and not flat like a carpet which we would call then "Bröselteppich" (crumb-carpet) or "Bröselfetzen" (crumb-shred/rag)... we say "Die Panier muß soufflieren" (the breadcoat must lift off) by the way we also say "Panier" and not "Panade" and it is in Viennese slang also an idiom for clothing as well like "fesche Panier" means "nice clothes" just a side-info...but your´s in the vlog was simply a bit too wavy even for me a born Viennese but that´s subjective perceived anyway..many like it that way and many don´t...and it is simply an artform to get it right.

Maybe you did not like the Schnitzel you had as much because you had one made of pork. The real Wiener Schnitzel has to be veal. Try that next time. It is usually almost double the price but worth it. Also you can ask for more lemon and eat it with cranberry sauce and Kartoffel-Vogerl-Salat. Guten Appetit!

If it was pork it wasn't a Wiener Schnitzel. It's only allowed to be called like that if it ist made of calf. This was a Schnitzel Wiener Style. :-)

First of all the Belvedere is not a castle (a castle is always fortified). Secondly it was not a residence of the Habsburgs but the summer residence of prince Eugene of Savoy. By the way Wiener Schnitzel translates to something like 'Viennese cutlet'.

A “schnitzel” is a thin slice (of meat, usually). The meat is sliced thin, and pounded thinner. You can also get chicken (Huner) or turkey breast (Puten). Sometimes, you get schnitzel slices atop a green salad.

@whomagoose68974 жыл бұрын
@@gen1c8rs88 I don't know where you get the Chicken Fried Steak you describe. In America a Chicken Fried Steak may be made of ground beef or a pounded section of thin beef. Generally made from mature beef cows over a one to two years of growth. Coated with flour and deep fried. Only milk gravy is on top. No sausage gravy. High in carbs, fat and sodium. Mostly found in the southern States of the USA. Often with either mashed potatoes or grits. European Wiener Schnitzel looks completely different. Never made from ground meat. A pounded veal portion of meat. Coated with a thin layer of bread crumbs and pan fried. The sauce seems to be a meat broth based gravy, and, is usually brown sauce. Veal is made from yearling cattle. Younger cows. The taste and texture is not the same. American milk gravy is made from animal fat, flour and milk only.

Orgin of Wiener Schnitzel : Question: What Country did Wiener Schnitzel originate from ? Answer : A tasty, authentic Wiener Schnitzel awaits you in Austria. The Viennese dish - made from thin slices of tenderized, breaded, fried veal is a specialty of Austrian cuisine dating back to the early 19th century, although its title didn’t appear until the late 19th century. In fact, its name quite literally means a " Schnitzel from Vienna . " While modern Restaurants might serve variations made with chicken or pork, a genuine Wiener Schnitzel must be made with Veal.
