Hello sweet friends!
The fact that I'm sharing this video is still blowing my mind. I went to a ball in Vienna and it still feels like an absolute dream. I grew up watching princess movies and daydreaming over the balls in Pride and Prejudice and Bridgerton but never really thought it would be something that I'd ever get to experience. Turns out, sometimes we just need to make the decision to start walking down a road instead of dreaming what it might be like to do so. So much of this experience was possible thanks to my dear friend Maddalena. We got to know each other through Patreon and she is now a lifelong friend that I will be grateful to for the rest of my life 💗 In this video we fly to Vienna, attend afternoon tea, get a backstage tour of the ball, and of course, the incredible ball experience itself. It was truly an evening of fairytale whimsy and romance, and it was even better than I could have ever imagined.
(p.s. that drone scene of the city street in the evening at the beginning of the video is from Budapest, not Vienna! I really wanted an evening city drone shot but we weren't able to get any so I licensed that clip to use instead because it looked extremely similar to how Vienna looked in the evening)

For anyone interested, watching this particular video that Desiree, my daughter made, it is going to be emotional for me in a very good way. 🥹 It was always a dream of mine growing up to attend a Viennese ball, then I finally did, at almost the same age as Desiree. My mother, her Omi/grandmother was German and had told me about them, though she never got to attend one. Then, I got to live in Germany as an adult for several years and finally attended one as a journalist with Desiree’s dad. So I’m so happy that Desiree got to do the same. Another option for people who are determined to go to a ball but can’t travel to Europe is to bring the magic closer to home by putting on your own ball in your local area, it’ll take work but your local community will appreciate you creating the opportunity to attend a ball for everyone nearby who can’t travel and it’ll be a nice tradition/ legacy you’ve made to improve the community .

I knew I was probably going to be a little emotional with this one, but I literally just quietly smile/cried the whole video. I’m so proud of you for telling your fears to take a backseat so that you can take control of your own life again. I absolutely know how that feels having chronic illness after Covid and another serious infection just prior. I told myself the same thing for this year: this year I start living again. What’s the point of just surviving? We need to live, especially us fantasy driven, leading lady, adventurous hearts, and daydreaming artists. I used to be a member of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society and there are chapters all over the USA (and Canada). I went to a weekly dance/class held at a local dance hall. You learn to dance: reels, strathspeys, jigs, hornpipes and more. There was live music: bagpipes, violen, guitar, bodrhan. Twice a year there were costume balls with men in full kilt and women in ballgowns with their tartans. SO MUCH FUN! It felt like the Scottish version of a Jane Austen ball. Highly recommend. The bar to entry is higher: as in you must learn the dances and become a member but you may have a local chapter and no need to travel abroad (Although that looks fantastic too!)

Wow Desi, how wonderful was this night! You have to enjoy and make your dreams come true when you are young! I am a retired nurse, with pretty much an ordinary life in Connecticut. But.....once when I was single, I was dating a guy who was vice president of a company and was able to attend a Big Brother/Big Sister event at The Waldorf Astoria in NYC with him. I bought a gown and he wore a tux. A limo brought us, and I had the time of my life. After dinner, we went to Regine's (this was early 90's) to sip champagne and listen to the music. I have never done anything like that again in my lifetime, but I am so lucky to have this memory! You looked so beautiful! The ball was breathtaking. Thanks for taking us with you! 💗

Vienna is so wonderful, I hope to be able to attend a ball there sometime! I live in Romania and the opera in Cluj-Napoca has a ball every year around February-March, inspired by the Viennese balls. This year it's on March 16. I went four times so far, it's such a lovely experience! Sadly I didn't manage to get a ticket for this year, but I'll definitely watch it on TV. 😍

You have just unlocked a new dream/a new goal in life for me! I have always loved the ball scenes too and have always dreamed of going to one, I had no idea ball season still existed! Thank you for telling me! As someone who didn’t end up going to prom or any high school dances because of not having friends and feeling very isolated/not wanted by my peers (partly due to health and anxiety), I would love to live out my dream of experiencing an enchanting night like this where the sun is what ends the night 😊❤️. My chronic illness would cause me to crash soooo bad after something line this. But looks like so worth it! I'm so glad you got to tick this off your bucket list. It reminded me of my dream to watch a nba game. Never thought I'd ever actually do it (I'm in nz). Then a nz company was doing a tour and i just jumped. Got to stand on the court and meet the nz player. It was the best trip ever. No regrets.
