oh how i LOVE glühwein (red, please)!!! 2 years ago, at Altona (Hamburg) Christmas Market, a horrid bagpipe (!!!) 'player' was tormenting passersby at the edge of the market, people held their hands over their ears from 50 meters away, it sounded as if a cow was being tortured; of course nobody gave the busker any money (except me, as a musician i must always tip buskers, even if they're horrid) i didn't want to encourage him, so i gave him 2 cents... can't wait for my 1st Christmas Market in 2 years, will go this next week! thumbs up, of course, #6

I highly recommend the Christmas Market in Nuremberg. They are famous for the "Tinsel Angels" for Christmas tree tops and each year a young woman is crowned Miss Tinsel Angel and she wears a costume. They invite her to the US and she helps open the Christmas Mkt in Chicago. Anyway Nuremberg also sells lots of smokers and prune people. Smokers are wood figurines, and they usually have pipes or cigars and you insert incense . Prune people are also prune figurines and are shaped into different scenes like hikers or a couple on a park bench.

BOAH - Leberkäse;-D boar is definitively top notch... I´m wondering if you also have discovered the Weihnachstmarkt "am Spittelberg" in Vienna as well. It is one of the most beloved ones by local Viennese because it is located in the small narrow side streets at the Spittelberg (7th district) and because everything is so close together in those old narrow alleys in front of those round about 300 years old Biedermeier buildings with just one or two floors it has a very romantic vibe....even without a Christmasmarket..it is also a beloved Gastro region as well with many restaurants but not that much frequented with tourists, it is more a local´s spot.

2 suggestions i’d like to see- maybe others are also interested- movies. maybe you could each watch 5 loved movies from the other country? on that note. I have a movie (heidi) and it’s wonderful. but i have to watch it in german. The english spoken translation is very harsh. They make the characters awful. so i watch in german and read the subtitles. and for phil, the opposite- german spoken spongebob where he’s giving gary a bath. Seems really intense when he’s speaking german. Do you find that’s the case in all movies? Do you think you could pick a couple movies and watch both ways and see how the feel of the movie/characters was in the original language vs the spoken translations? i think it could be a fun something to do while stuck at home. watch movies, talk about them, talk about how the spoken translations were, and the christmas ideas one, i know i love learning about other countries special holiday traditions, especially ones i have heritage from. it’s fun. Maybe Deanna and Phil could show each other some special holiday movies and appreciate different things the other person is fond of. hope you all have an awesome holiday! our german christmas market is back this year. and we plan to go!

Most traditional restaurants only have a few vegetarian meals, some only have salad. But there are more and more "specialized" places you can get all sorts of vegetarian / vegan stuff. Though they are mostly in the (bigger) cities and quiet expensive in many cases. But overall it's much better than let's say five years ago. Oh, and in the supermarkets you can find many vegan products. Some are good, some taste like sh*t.
