1. I have *always* loathed slot head screws. 2. Is that how the finishing sander oscillates. 3. *Thank you* for explaining how the nut driver works. I had wondered but know I know. Much appreciated Dean. You sir are a walking Wiki of power tools. 👍 Must be nice knowing you are finally getting a return on the anvil for the 25 year old tool. How many thousands of individual parts do you think you have on the shelves in your Powerladdins cave? Thanks for the video! 👍👍

That Makita nut gun motor sounds very good for its age. The older tools were definitely better quality for longevity. Thanks Dean.

Still made and looks as old , they have not invested in any fancy overmolding and new design..

I wonder why old stuff lasted as long. I fridge could easily go 20 years without maintenance, just look at the sheer amount of machinist machinery out there, lathes and milling machiness from the 40s and 50s all over the world still rocking solid.

The longevity of the older tools is likely due to the lack of the rare earth element _chinesium_ in them.

@bladeoflucatiel I think 2 big reasons are, good quality parts and design (like the oil hole in the makita anvil) And simplicity, not much can go wrong in a simple machine For example old cars that barely had any electronics in them had few things that can go wrong, now cars are full of basically computers and all kinds of electronic systems Among cheaping out on quality and design

Fun fact: that Makita 6906 is still being made in 2024. Nice find you still had the old part laying around! Back in the days Makita had their software on cd's that were meant for their service dealers. The software stll exists and is up to date but it's on a server nowadays for which you need a service dealer login.
@Rustbelt_Research
@Rustbelt_Research 10 ай бұрын
Interesting to note that the 6906 costs somewhere between $600-1000US depending on vendor, and only delivers (according Makita's website) 433ftlbs torque. Why would you buy compared to a battery powered unit from Milwaukee that delivers 1200ftlbs for $400? Because Makita is still providing parts for it 25 years later, that's quality.

I'm always shotting links to your channel in the comments on other peoples channels when I watch them trying to repair their power tools or have a tool that needs fixing and I have seen you repair the same tool so search back through your play list and find it and post that link, But the best bit about your channel is the way you explain everything that you're doing and what you check as well and known failures and work arounds, I can't believe you have so many subs now I remember when you were in the 20k subscribers well done and keep the great content coming and good luck with your channel in the future.

Those Wiha Ergostars are bees knees. I’ve got the 9-piece metric set, and the 13-piece inch color coded set in a boring old holder that I then replaced with the 13-piece inch ergostar holder. Wiha’s marketingg made a wise decision to send those to you Dean. I’m sure it’s paid itself many times over. And you deserve the best tools for keeping the landfills less filled and tradies’ tools going longer.

Black & Decker used to make some proper heavy duty tools back in their day. I don't think most realise to this day how many brands they have heard of are actually owned by Black & Decker. The other classic back from that era was Wolf Power Tools.

Old power tools , grandads Aluminum B&D drill with tiniest chuck, most likely 1960s, never used it my self, dads teal B&D drill, with hedge trimmer attachment and yellow circular saw from 1980s, Black B&D file sander and jig saw from 1990s . Then i have some green jig saw from B&D from 2010s . Now B&D tools are orange red ... they never had one color for power tools.

Our old 9 1/4 " Bosch saws never had a spindle lock so we just put a nail in the gullet of the blade on the underside of the baseplate at the front and then used the allen gey to remove the nut, same in reverse when fitting the blade but on the back end on the top if memory serves

Found an old B&D router on my dads stuff, really unused realistically brand new. Model 3315 220V made in Towson, MD, 1.5hp motor. The bits with it were crap but with some new bits it really put out some work. It takes 3/8 bits which you cant really find but also has an adapter for 1/4 bits.

Picked up an old orange B&D similar saw to this, for 'spares or repair'. Teeth on the end of the armature were twisted to hell, though the driven gear was good as new. New armature cost more than a new saw! Win some, lose some. Binned it
