Paint thinner is powerful but it makes your hands very cold, and it is expensive. I use gasoline because it cleans well and evaporates very quickly. Very interesting video. I finally found out the details of the cleaning rags, I was always curious about it.

I mean probably, but I feel like an open tank full of kerosene is an explosion hazard. Especially in a workshop.

Paint thinner makes your hands "cold" because it rapidly evaporates thus it doesn't leave anything behind since there is nothing else in it. Gasoline on the other hand has lots of addatives now days to help clean the engine so it will leave stuff behind and doesn't evaporate quickly (as in it can take hours or days)

🤨 ~ paraffin is one of the least “flammable” fuels as it doesn’t readily evaporate, in comparison to paint thinner & petrol which are both extremely flammable ⚠️🔥💥, and quickly evaporate; certainly there will be a risk of using those in a parts washer; of fumes building-up in a workshop

My “tapppy tap tap” screwdriver handle got so bad I had to use a large piece of shrink over the handle and it’s good as new now.😉 Thanks for taking us along, it can’t all be fun and games otherwise they wouldn’t call it work. Bottom line is a clean shop is a happy shop.✌🏼

We use in our ship a bio part washer „bio circle”. No one was able to stand kerosene, diesel or any thinner anymore. Wurth/berner part washers also not stinking.

I have this parts washer and it drove me mad with the little drain hole lol so I cleaned it out and welded a 2” pipe fitting with valve works fantastic now lol faster to clean when you have smaller hgv parts to clean lol thanks for showing dean all the best

Paraffin is one of the most inert of fuels and doesn’t readily evaporate, you would certainly know if you splashed petrol on your hand as it would immediately evaporate off leaving that ‘cold’ sensation

I love kerosene, but it's a lot more expensive in the US than all our other fuels. For an 18L jug(5 gallons), it's $70US, which is over 63 euros. I can get bulk kerosene at the fuel pump, but it's $7 a gallon here, diesel is $3.50 at the moment. It is a hell of a cleaner!

Yeah people now days never clean the stuff they clean things with. Had a junker guy who came into our store, he had picked up a vaccum (Not a super expensive one but still almost a 200$ bagless new) and someone had thrown it out. He said it ran just fine so I took a look at it... Only thing wrong with it was it needed new filters. Still had the factory ones in there and they were clogged up with dirt and crud. for 14$ got 4 new sets of filters and that thing lived in the store for 4 more years cleaning our enterance mat (and we live in an area that heavily uses salt and sand in the winter) so that thing worked hard in those 4 years till someone maanged to break it sucking up entire loads of dirt, fine dirt and gravel from that mat (along with countless dust bunnies from under the displays)

That was most likely coal oil, which is quite different from modern kerosene. The old coal oil wouldn't evaporate from the lamps the way the new stuff does.

Yes, diesel has a terrible odor. Standard kerosene is better but I strongly recommend deodorized (low odor) kerosene especially since you spend a lot if time in the fumes.

the bucket is kept under the drain to catch anything that drips or leaks out. Sometimes things fall and land in the bucket. Obviously they don't go down the drain hole, its always closed anyway.

Is the pump in yours the original one? We used to use Castrol cleaner through the one in the family shop for cleaning car bits and the pumps never lasted very long, not sure why. So no pump now, we just do a final rinse with brake cleaner.

It is. As its not carcinogenic, but long skin exposure does lead to tumours according to experts. Not to mention it does cause skin inflammation. Dean told many time that he should use PPE like gloves and what not. So its "do as I say not as I do".

Dean, better wear rubber gloves kerosene may result in dermatitis through the extraction of endogenous skin lipids. Kerrosene is not considered a direct-acting dermal carcinogen, chronic skin exposure may result in tumourigenesis (cell mutation). 😱
