Repairing an old Hitachi DH50MR Hammer that is leaking grease, loose head and fixing the tool holder

The old Hitachi HM50MR Hammer came in because it was not letting the bit into the tool holder.
But the whole head was actually slack and wobbling around. the 4 bolts holding it had backed out and if left would destroy the piston and Hammer pipe.
quick strip, clean and rebuild with new grease gets her working and looking like new again.

Personally, I always quite liked Hitachi hammers. Maybe not as good as a Bosch, but good, simple robust machines none the less, and definitely better built than average.

Would be good to know the exact grease you are putting on for every task. Mentioning 'Hilti grease' once didn't help much :] On a 'plus' side - love the way you appear to get the right Allen key size pretty much 100%.

I like the hinged part of the clamp on the front handle making it easier to remove/install.

Id imagine he finds pleasure in fixing a machine with parts that have been sitting on the shelves for 5+ years when they may not be produced anymore as its verification hes looking after his customers as an independant repair shop vs an actual huge service center. Hes fantastic at keeping 10+ year old machines going.

Unlikely, stopped taking hilti tools in for repair. Quality has dropped so bad, there will be an influx of them shortly so we are stepping away from them.

I am a bit skeptical, about cleaning assemblies as one piece with solvents. That way you remove the grease between the parts, without actually regreasing during assembly. Plus some solvent might be also there.

He dries it before assembly, also, he puts a fair amount of new grease back, for good measure.

Air hose on it after, then along with the cut up rags from a closed down factory i think he said along with new grease. This man probably re assembles tools back better than factory due to the effort he puts in.
