First off, thanks so much for the shout out. Second, awesome review! When you said that you are doing this one I had to bite my tongue, because I wanted to talk your ear off about it, but wanted you to go in completely fresh. You hit all the marks. Because I played around with a lot of Gundams when I was a teenager I always tend to think of Japanese figures as more fragile poseable models, so the fiddly nature of these figures has never bothered me. It looks like yours had a much better casted dome than mine, I had to heat it up and re-form it quite a bit.

Forgot to mention, this one is actually more to scale with NECA's Ripley figure (which is slightly underscaled compared to the alien, Brett, Parker and Ash).

Super glad for you that got your hands on one of these! Still my favourite alien figure. It's absolutely brilliant. The articulation is a bit finicky, and it does "fall apart" every now and then, but what is important is that it doesn't break. You can just pop the articulation back in with no problems. Also, once you get used how the different joints actually work, it gets much better. As for the dome sticking out on front, I just glued both down with a mini- dab of glue in the socket that goes into the nose. It might make the dome not sit flush at the sides, but I prefer that than hanging over the teeteh... Another cool thing you can do is pull the legs a bit down and then tuck the fron under the hips, that way you can bend the figure forward a lot more, as well as getting the tail to hang straight down. It a fun figure to mess around with.

man im really glad you like yours. i got mine over a year ago and had nothing but problems. it looks great and has great articulation but basically falls apart if you look at it wrong. arm, torso, head, legs and tubes on the back basically never stay on sadly. such a shame that this figure has such insanely inconsistent and awful QC. really wish i got lucky with it haha

Because of this review I decided to buy…4 of them! lol I’m so pumped just got them today and just as good as this review. Which size human figures do you recommend? I was going to buy a NECA Ripley but afraid it would be too big

This is a really nice looking Alien Big Chap figure. Mafex did a wonderful job with this one. The sculpt, paint application, and details are all solid. However, the legs are a bit too short. It's unfortunate that the figure is prone to falling apart. It doesn't necessarily happen to everyone's figure, but it's still an issue regardless. Unfortunately, the only Mafex Medicom figure that I have is the Suicide Squad Harley Quinn that I bought a while back and it looks really good. Otherwise, thanks, Dean! Damn, he looks good alongside Predator. Great review as always! I bought this one cause of the Strange Form top 10 alien figures. Ironically, he didn't include the Mezco one cause there were some QC issues. Then I stumbled across your Mezco review and was so surprised at how well he stacked up with Kotobukiya that I bought it. Now I'm thinking about whether I need to sell one of them lol as I also own a Kotobukiya one and am not sure if I need so many Aliens in the collection. Looking forward to the comparison to NECA!

I was wondering if you was gonna pick this up. The potential issues couldn't keep me away from having the first alien figure to nail it. Nothing else comes close to that closed mouth sculpt. With that being said made me realize that in the movie , the skull under the dome must have motion in it , just like our eyebrows. Look at the two different expressions. Another CREEPY element to an already awesome movie. Every single neca rendition we've gotten the surprised looking eye sockets. So it never looks right with the mouth closed. Sorry for rambling. I prefer the closed mouth look. Its like an actual big chap in your hand lol😊
