When I was young, I liked some AC/DC and french band Trust. When teenage started it's Nirvana and Soundgarden what I start to like. I discovered Metallica with a Friend. But what it finished to finally become a Real metalhead is Rust in Peace album with this crazy intro which is Holy Wars. I felt like to be shot by A10 plane gun during the whole song...I thought it was the end. But Hangar 18 started, Tornado...etc. I have a eternal debt to the 2 Dave, Marty and Nick. Without megadeth and pantera, my post teenage period could be really sad.

@@The_Buff_Guy Hearing Megadeth referred to as a mainstream band kind of surprised me. I kind of get it. They did make it to Billboard in 92 and had a "hit" song here and there but still feels incorrect to call them mainstream. I guess compared to the rest of metal as a genre that is true. Then again I guess it depends what your definition of mainstream is. Some would argue it's as soon as you start headlining your own shows so they definitely fall into that category.

@@ReasonableRam Megadeth have Radio hits on every album after RIP. Symphony of destruction alone is one of the most mainstream and popular metal songs ever written. I know of many ppl who know the words to symphony and don’t even know it’s by Megadeth. They’ve topped the charts more than just in 92. They Hit the top 10 position so far 8 times in their career. And If you look at the last couple of records, they both hit #3 on billboard, and in dystopia’s case, the only ones above it were Justin bieber and Adele. Literally the two current hottest names In pop music these days. And Megadeth’s sales were comparable to them IN FUKN 2016! Literally the only artists in metal that achieve that level of status today is Metallica, Slipknot, Disturbed, FFDP, and ozzy. Even Iron Maiden and Rammstein don’t put out records that successful. Props to Claine for distinguishing between "what I like" and "what is good". The two are frequently conflated and it takes mature musicians/music lovers to know the difference between subjective and objective qualities. I concur about a good amount of Megadeth and a host of other categories of music.
@themusicx.plorer75482 жыл бұрын
Completely agree. I recognize that for example, Ariana Grande is an awesome singer, has a very good technique, but I don't listen to her music. Sometimes I pay attention to music on the environment, music which I don't like and I notice interesting stuff, but that doesn't make me truly like it.
@Jaysthudandblunder2 жыл бұрын
Isn't that kinda maturity in life too? Just because we don't like something, it doesn't make it intrinsically bad, it's just that it doesn't hit our "colour palette". Then also being able to say well that was quite good maybe I should explore it a little further. Being open to new experiences, being less dogmatic in opinion and being able to augment one's appreciation. Has taken me from Palestrina to Pantera (sorry couldn't resist the cheesy alliteration!) I am not the arbiter of anyone's artistic taste apart from my own.
@EvilForgemaster2 жыл бұрын
THIS! Some people are so simple-minded that they can't understand that there are OBJECTIVE truths out there, but we express our SUBJECTIVE opinion about them. I can fucking tell that Mustaine is objectively not a good singer (he breaths wrong, his tone is amateurish etc etc) but I personally love his singing because it brings character to the music.
@RohannvanRensburg2 жыл бұрын
@@Jaysthudandblunder It is, but I also think it works the other direction. Like what you like, and don't let people dictate that. But also differentiate people who have the utmost control of their craft and effect their intent, and people that don't. There's a reason Bach is still revered, and it's not for the arbitrary and inane reason of "privilege" or some such nonsense -- like it or not, it is incredibly written music. Similarly, The Godfather or Vertigo are in a different category of craft-mastery than are most summer blockbusters.
