Brilliant... just brilliant. The quiet of the instruments and the cutting sound of her perfect old time voice. I love this. I've just listened to it three times in a row.

Thanks for this, it's really beautiful. I just recently lost my friend and banjo teacher. We're both boaters and we spent a lot of evenings on one or other of our boats playing tunes and drinking whisky. He fell into the river cycling home and this tune just feels so poignant, I've been listening to it an awful lot. I've ended up with my friend's banjo and I'd dearly love to one day be good enough to play this on his banjo. Thank you for making such lovely music, I actually sent your rendition of bowling green to my friend a week or two before he passed having just discovered you guys and he really loved that. I hope you keep making music together for a long time to come.

hi there, thank you so much for sharing that, and I'm really sorry to hear about losing your friend. I read this a few weeks ago and shared it with PenkaJane, and it took a while to reply because I needed some time to find the words. the pain of losing someone is so hard to live with, and music that connects us to those who have died can be both painful and comforting, and is so deeply meaningful. It means a lot that our music can be part of that connection for you, and I'll think of you and your friend when we play this song. be well, wishing you all the best

this is brilliant. if you close your eyes, this could be something from one of the musicians of mali. shows the connection with the blues and west africa!
@BrianLindsayMusic5 ай бұрын
thanks so much! you're so right, those connections are alive in american old-time music. The roots of the banjo as an instrument go straight back to central and west africa, and old-time in America is heavily shaped by black musicians across the continent.

wow I love your version of water bound and your voice, I am a violinist, I have been playing for four years, and I am have looked for violin music sheets to water bound, but haven't found any, would you be comfortable sharing the notes of the song. you inspire me so much. thank you :)
@BrianLindsayMusic3 жыл бұрын
thanks for your kind words Rosie! I'm sorry to say we don't have written music for our arrangement, we learned the song by ear and don't usually transcribe our arrangements. If it's helpful, the youtube player has an option where you can playback the video at a slower speed, which can be very useful for learning tunes by ear if you want to try that!

@@BrianLindsayMusic thank you thats alright I'll try that, I have been playing Suzuki and that has a lot with listening , so it should be good practice thank you for answering my question. you seem very sweet

@BrianLindsayMusic3 жыл бұрын
Thanks David! The banjo is in sawmill tuning (also called mountain minor), capo'd at the 2nd fret to play in sort of A-minor
