Ben Platt is so freaking talented, I saw him in concert once and he expressed so much emotion throughout his own songs. This musical is one of the best I’ve seen and he will always be the original Evan. God, I cry every single time I watch this and even sing it. He is one of the reasons I am where I am musically right now, he inspired me so much to be who I am and to believe in myself. I love him.

I wish the filmed the stage version instead of the film version with songs deleted. The stage version is much more powerful.

Yeah the film version takes out almost all of the Mom songs 😢
@May-qq4cv Жыл бұрын
@@christopherrussell6055 They also took out Disappear which was arguably the actual turning point where Evan was finally willing to do the Connor Project. I still don't understand why they did that to this day :) Somehow they took that out and gave us Anonymous Ones instead - which is a lovely score, I admit, and I guess they think it served the purpose Disappear did in the musical.

Some things just don't translate well from stage to screen. This scene in the movie... broke my heart.
@ethangc0819 ай бұрын
@@May-qq4cvIt does serve the same purpose of getting the Connor project to start, but instead of it being Evan’s conscience or Connor convincing him to start the connor project, Alana convinces Evan to start it removing the fact that Evan started the connor project to bring more attention to himself and is exploiting it for that purpose
@KAK_PAN4 ай бұрын
@@May-qq4cv I can explain. This is something you need to understand how to manage IP. If film that Universal Studio make it just a full copy from the whole stage, it will be a lazy writing. When people like you realize that the live stage is more powerful than the movie, it makes movie audience wants to go to the theater. Thats why need something differet. If just the same, the movie will enough for them.

Ben Platt had to train to sing this while crying. Lots of mucus in his throat. Think about that.

I saw another recording of this musical with different actors and the guy playing Evan was visibly dripping out of his nose and mouth 😢 😭 It’s a crazy talent to be able to feel such strong emotions and still be able to hit the right notes so perfectly 😭 🤩

A virtuoso performance in one of the Great American musicals. I know we're supposed to dislike bootlegging, but until the stiffs who put on these shows understand how important it is to our culture that we record, keep, and treasure these performances and be able to let them out to the world so that others can be inspired by them, I guess we have no other choice but to depend on bootlegging.

Having only listened to "waving through a window" I really thought this was going to be a good musical, but it's really awful. Like, it gives harmful implications on mental health. like im popular now, I don't need my pills anymore, and oh I suspected you were lying because it seemed he was getting better also the homophobic jokes sure aren't great
@LKeithG Жыл бұрын
@@cobaltblu4196 Based very loosely on something that actually happened, it is a tough story. Bullying, depression, social anxiety, suicide, family disintegration, deception is pretty rough recipe for a musical. Yet through the wreckage there are the underlying messages that everyone is important, family love is still powerful, and it is possible to find oneself, make sense and move to a better emotional place.
@cobaltblu4196 Жыл бұрын
@@LKeithG "everyone's important" you know... except for Connor Murphy right? the dead guy! why did he do it? doesn't matter because here comes Evan to rewrite his past! to wash over his problems and hardships. "family love is still powerful" The Family chose not to reveal that it was all lies, that town still believes all the fake stories Evan told. and his own mother? oh he starts drifting from her for his new shiny family! "and it is possible to find oneself, make sense and move to a better emotional place" yes, find your true self, the one that rewrites the story of a dude who committed suicide, and continue living the lie. nah man. the music is good. but this story isn't.

@@cobaltblu4196 I'm guessing you might find this response unsatisfying, but the play does talk about enough of Connor's backstory to give reference points about his behavior. The fact is that this is Evan's story and relatively short narrative works must have a focus and a movement toward an end point that precludes going off into other interesting side trips. All staged productions just like all film and written work leaves information on "the cutting room floor. The general public doesn't know what songs or scenes or bits of dialogue that might have given you more satisfaction were cut for something as prosaic as shortening the runtime to keep the audience from becoming fidgety and losing their focus.
