Met Mickey Carroll on several occasions and have his autograph on a photo. Also he was kind enough to show photos of George burns without his toupee from the last time he saw him. A literal pack of snapshots he had picked up. He used to own a local monument shop in St. Louis and we were shopping for my husbands father. Years later I ran into him behind me at the grocery store and introduced him to our new baby and thanked him for being him. Warm, open and kind.

I knew a woman whose aunt and uncle were munchkins in the Wizard of Oz. She said they told her it was pretty wild, lots of partying and romantic interludes. I can understand it, being a little person in that day was isolating. Can you imagine walking in and seeing hundreds of little people everywhere? It must have been overwhelming for all of them .

There's a wildly-fictional and little-seen 1981 movie called UNDER THE RAINBOW about the Munchkins stay at the Culver Hotel during filming in 1938; with filming done in the actual hotel itself. Played broadly for cheap laughs via stereotypical sight-gags it starred Chevy Chase, Carrie Fisher, Eve Arden and Billy Barty, with a cameo by original Munchkin Jerry Maren. Critics panned the movie for it's tawdry humor which is why it's so rarely seen today. Fun trivia: This was the final film of Makeup Artist Fred B. Phillips...who also worked on 1939's WIZARD OF OZ.

I read a few stories where alot of the munchkins were getting drunk and fighting with each other at the hotels they were staying at. I cant remember what munchkins they interviewed for these stories but Im sure u can find them, so Judy was actually correct about all the drunks they had. Great story again, Scott! 💜

When you were showing L. Frank Baums grave I was like OMG NO WAY!!! The crusty old looking rose in front of his grave is the rose I left there on September 14th. Lol. And it's still there. I know it's mine cause I checked my photos and the bend in the stem is the exact same and it's in the exact same position/spot right in front of that piece of grass sticking up. How wild to now see it on KZbin almost 2 months later. I drove alllllllllllll over that cemetery that day. (I'm very proud of myself for finding William Wyler and Edith Head. THAT was not easy!) Even finding L Frank Baum and figuring out how to get down there took me a minute. Forest Lawn Glendale is absolutely incredible. I enjoyed this video Scott!!!

One story I heard about those 'wild' Munchkins - years ago, now ! - is they were dissatisfied with something that was going on on the 'Oz' set ( I believe it was.... ), so on their way to the studio one day - in their buses the studio used to shuttle them back and forth with - a bunch of them mooned right out the bus windows to show their 'displeasure' ( and everything else, too....!!! ) I assume it's a true story, and I can just picture it, Scott !!! LOL

I remember about many years ago a munchkin past away and it made the news a few days later my high school age son & I were driving and on the car radio it came on the news another munchkin had passed the following week a third one or the second was being mentioned again. The news caster said yet another munchkin has crossed over the rainbow bridge. Omg my son said ,” I hope the remaining munchkins are on high alert, their friends are dropping like flies. Well , I said that certainty is not very nice , I know mom but their families must be worried about them. I explained to his they were all very old and actually been pretty lucky to have had such a long life , as back in the old days dwarfs and other little were known to have shorter life spans due to heart conditions and other issues, but now they can live much better longer lives with today’s medical technology. I got the dvd a the library and we watched the movie together with his siblings who had never seen the movie either . He became so interested he researched dwarfism for a school project and used photos of the Munchkins as his Title page.

I have been catching up with watching documentaries about the authors of my favorite books as a child. I started with Lewis Carroll and then Roald Dahl. I find that the authors who wrote these classics and what had inspired them to write them is more interesting than the story themselves. I guess my next author will now be L. Frank Baum.

I met Karl at The Judy Garland Festival in Grand Rapids. He was adorable, a little hard of hearing, and told wonderful stories about the other movies he'd been in. . He and his assistant talked about how his parents didn't understand why he was so small or what to do with him. R.I.P. Karl what a life he had.

Margaret and Meinhardt (with his wife?) appeared at the King of Prussia mall (PA) as part of a TCM promotion. Lots of fantastic memorabilia on display - costumes, props etc. Both Margaret and Meinhardt were patiently signing free 8 X 10 photos. They had on heavy Munchkin-type costumes, it was summer and stuffy in the mall. It HAD to be uncomfortable for them to be dressed like that in the summer. Garbo was rumored to have visited the Munchkin set, I wanted to ask if that was true. Some TCM person told me "No questions", just let them know how (what name) you want them to sign the photo to. I got the impression that someone asked about the orgy rumor before I got there, so the people in charge decided 'no questions allowed'.

When I was a little kid i would get so excited to watch The Wizard of Oz when it would come on t.v. Of course it only came on once a year. It was the same for the Christmas cartoons like Frosty and Rudolf. But now a days kids just ain't interested in them anymore. I think it started with my kids generation. Thanks to VHS and then DVD's. What a shame.
