It's so nice to see how far you've come. You are so confident now, it's amazing :) I will be moving soon and my new apartment has a dining/living room just like this. And although it makes more sense to have a table closer to the kitchen, I still feel it will be better if it's closer to the window. Because that's a balcony and any seating arrangement gets in the way of the doors....It's a good problem to have tho

I think a low rack will improve the segregation between the dining and living room without sacrificing the light from the window. Plus it can be used as coffee table and extra storage.

Generalized question to fellow followers- does this means that a round table that expands with 3 leaves that turns into a round edged rectangle works? It'sa north facing dining room and has the most natural light. This expanded usage happens during mainly on holidays and celebrations and during occassional fancy-ware sewing...like Renaissance Faire Festivals, Fairy Festivals, and weddings....the cloth used for fancyware is not common everyday fabric like blue jeans. It's more like $25-$50 a yard.
@lamonica4895 Жыл бұрын
What about chairs at the end of the table? In the rectangle table, you leave the ends chairless. Is that because it would put someone's back to the window and wall?

We have a dining table in our living room similar to this. But trying to fit a TV with more than two sofa seats and a garden door in the top right which should remain accessible is proving difficult. Our top wall however goes all the way to the door, which you have to leave to get to the kitchen on the other side of that top wall. Any ideas?

Hi there. Thanks for the video. I have a oval glass dining table. I also have a open wood and glass etagre in the corner of the dining room. I moved to a smaller place a year ago and my existing pieces don't fit well. You can't get around the table easily. Should I move the etagre from the dining area? I have an open living room/ dining room area. Thanks for the help. 🌹

Clocks! Where do clocks go? I believe in other videos you’ve mentioned that clocks don’t belong on the bedroom, and now the dining room/area. I imagine this would also be true for the social area of a living room. So where? I need to know the time and like being able to just look up at the wall and see it.

we have a dining room/kitching/living room that is rectangular and long but a small width. We want to have a round table. It will have to be in front of the main entrance since in the middle of our living room we have a big cooking island. Somehow the table is always in the way of the flow and in front of the door... Not sure how we would solve this.

My dining area is in the entrance and you need to pass it to get to anything... how do I stop it being easy dumping spot for bags
@gayatrivadlamani4437 Жыл бұрын
Best option would be to switch the dining area with the couch, try it out for a week and you could always switch it back if it doesn't work for your space. The dining area right in the entryway is a big no no.
@gayatrivadlamani4437 Жыл бұрын
1. Place a bench/ side table/coffee table/small stool /extra chair/ shoe rack along the wall right by the door as a catch-all for the bags 2. Add a large basket/ cardboard box to designate a space for scarves/ mittens/ hats, etc. 3. Add a small tray or cardboard box or decorative bowl for keys, wallets and ID tags 4. If possible, make use of basic wall hooks / nails / pegs (atleast for the keys & scarves) to clear up some space on the flat surfaces. 5. Add a mat to indicate a designated spot for guests' shoes/ weather-appropriate shoes. ***If none of this is possible, try to have a closed shoe cupboard at your waist-level and keep the surface free except for a small bowl or cardboard box or tray (worked for me in my dorm)***

Speaking of dining room, I heard having the stove directly across from the kitchen sink is not good. Living in an apartment, I can't necessarily change this😅. Is there a way to balance this?
@DearModern4 жыл бұрын
The reason why this is not good is because water and fire are clashing elements and represent conflict. It is however common for compact kitchens these days arranged like that and I wouldn't be too worried. Of course if you are feeling uneasy about this, you may try to introduce plants between them to introduce an element of wood to mediate this disparity. Of course modern fengshui is all about interpretation, because these days stoves may be induction for example, with no fire at all.
@lauraflorian99964 жыл бұрын

Is there a reason why you didn't put the sofa on the opposite wall? The table could have stayed in the area you suggested and you could have separated the living room with a bookcase without blocking light to the table. Is there something wrong about that other wall?
@molamolalaaa29682 жыл бұрын
If the sofa is put against the opposite wall, then it's right in front of the main door. The "chi" will crash into the people on the sofa.

Dear Modern what do you think about having your dining table as your working space (with a laptop, not a heavy computer). So you could 1. work there, 2. let's be real, working at home we eat with the computer paying youtube or something, so work and eat (alone) and 3. when hosting people clearing the table of all work related stuff and making it nice and cozy (with fruits in the center of the dining table^^). Is it good Feng Shui?

I have cats. The table is currently tucked in a small room, and we end up never using it. I COULD move it to the big room and follow these practices, but then the cats would get their dirty paws all over it. Advice?

You could try giving your cats something else that is taller than the table? They like climbing on things and have an instinct to be up high. Maybe a tall cat tower or wall shelves/platforms?
