If it's not too rude to ask, did you have to prepare a large deposit for the Jeonse loan? ^ ^ It seems like a great system, since the monthly rent amount is so low!

Don't let the rent fool you - usually the deposit is enormous: $15.000 is considered to be on the cheaper end. Of couse, you get it back when you move but you still have to come up with it first.

@@thecollector5243 If you consider $15.000 as "enormous" don't ever move to Denmark ;D Here in Denmark you would never see a penny of your deposit either often you would have to pay a lot more to get out of the apartment. This one here would be at least $3500 pr month x 12 in upfront payment to get the keys. And then you have to pay for everything else like water, electricity, internet, tv, gas etc.

This particular apartment's jeonse for this type is currently almost 450k USD. She got it for cheap because it's 1) lower floor 2) she was the first tenant and the house owner probably didn't have enough cash so they needed to get a tenant to move in to pay for the house payment. Because there are lots of house owners in need of tenants in newly finished apartment buildings, there are good bargains available. Really lucky find. The current asking selling price for this apartment is around 800k USD.

$24k USD for a down payment for an apartment is absolutely insane. that would be like what you'd use as a down payment for a whole house in the US

It’s not insane if you understood the system. Typical ignorant comment.

@@johnhamm6127 It’s insane to someone who doesn’t live in Korea or familiar with the system just like how things in the US like the rent prices here will be insane to those outside the US

Congrats on finding a great place outside of Seoul! Before anyone curses out the place where they are at since there is no appt like this there that is affordable, just remember that there are always pros and cons. Folks living in Seoul or NYC, for example, in tiny apts. with huge rent may stick it out there for the cultural and city vibes, a great paying job, and hate long commutes. Living in the outskirts of the city, the suburbs and further out may have jobs allowing the WFH or hybrid scenarios so long commutes may not be an issue. While one may save on rent, a bigger apt may bring up your water and electricity costs. You have more space, you end up buying more stuff to fill in that space.

In Korea is common to play more than 5k or 20k for deposit, more money and expense for deposit more cheaper is gonna be for each month
