Apartment 11 is definitely the winner. The whole opened layout let's you breathe and even if it doesn't have so much sunlight, the space and the kitchen design is soooo worth it

I’m a huuuuge sucker for a large veranda space! 😂 It keeps your place sooo much warmer in the colder months, since it blocks cold air/drafts, so the heating bill is a lot lower. It’s also the perfect place to make a little plant area with a breakfast table 🌿 I’d definitely choose a terrace over that if I had the choice though! That’s so frustrating about the loan :( There is still so much red tape for foreign residents in Korea, particularly when it comes to banking 😣

The winner for me was apt n.14, i feel in love is literally my dream house, everything about it is just so perfect even the bathrooms, space and layout, i always wanted a spacious living room with an open beautiful kitchen like this AND WITH THE BIG DOOR/WINDOWS to a varanda, omg i'm out of breathe here lol i also felt like the ligthing was great to be honest, even with the varanda, i felt like other apartments you showed were darker, but i'm only seeing through a video, can't tell 100%

As a plant person I love the veranda space. I think it’s the floor to ceiling windows. My sister has a similar area and that’s where she spends the bulk of her time. Having a coffee, watch the sunrise, approaching storms, people and cars below there’s always something to see. At night there’s string lights and it feels like being in a treehouse looking at the stars. It’s also a great spot for yoga. And me, I’d add sooo many plants!

I also live in Korea and I was also obsessed with the terrace, so the first house bf and I moved in had one, and let me tell you, we didn't use it at all. The nice weather window in Seoul to use it is too short, so you can reasonable use it for 1 month or 2 months top and life got on the way. Places with terraces are also usually 빌라 which are located in more undeveloped areas in general and tbh got sick of them. Eventually we prioritized the area and the modernity of the house with views rather than the house itself, opening the window and seeing another house in like 5 meters distance is the worst, but yeah the prices are craaaaazy.
@sheila3936

I was wondering about that. Winter, hot summers, rainy season, poor air quality days…how often is it really usable.
@bababambi2301

@@sheila3936 Exactly... Not too much! I was so excited at the beginning and we planned to buy like a bbq or something and then we never did and we also really didn't go there much, because going to the terrace to just see buildings and 0 nature well meh... Later, after moving we saw some places with terrace that were really good, but it was so pricey 🥲 I think in Korea the indoor terrace-like-situation is more convenient tbh

Half Jonse sounds like the shared ownership system in the UK. With shared ownership, you can buy a share of a home which usually starts at 25%, and you pay the rest through rent. Through this, the deposit for the house tends to be less than if you were to buy 100% of the home, and you still have the flexibility of moving since you didn't commit a big mortgage on the property.

Renting in Korea is very interesting. In Australia we don’t have this kind of a system. The huge amount of money you would put down to rent we would put down as a deposit on a house to buy and not just rent. And most apartments have balconies/verandahs - usually multiple 😁😁
@leend.1045
@leend.1045 Жыл бұрын
at first I didn't understand the Jeonse deposit so I had to google a bit, but I guess it's basically the same as "buying a house" but only paying utilities monthly & then at the end of the contract and getting your money back aka "selling the house". I guess this is the most profitable way for both the person renting (who isn't losing money by having to pay a monthly rent) & the owner who's investing that big sum of money and getting to keep the interest. I hope these Jeonse owners are good investors tho or else it's a 0 operation. Very excited to continue watching the video :)
@sisselab
@sisselab Жыл бұрын
Technically yes, but if you rent a house with this system you still don’t own the house and can’t change stuff or hang something on the walls. Kinda same as normal renting 💚

Advantages of the Korean "JEON-SE" System - "A" found his favorite "game machine" in the used market - The price of the game console is $500, but all "A" has is $100.(The price will go up by $100 next week) -"A" borrows up to $150" from parents (banks). but $250 empty. - "A" makes a suggestion to friend "B". If you lend me $250, you lend me the game console for a year and I'm going to return the entire $250 a year later. Totally agreed by "B". - "A" has the advantage of being able to own a $500 gaming console for $100 "B" has the advantage of being able to can use the game console for free for a year. - "B" buys another game console by adding $250 money back plus a year's income without spending on rental (housing) - If there was only a "monthly rent system," "A" couldn't buy a $500 game console with $250 (100+150). * In Korea, the price of houses has increased significantly every year.

It's a shame they don't have a deposit protection scheme as we do here in the UK. The landlord has to put the deposit in the scheme and it ensures you get your deposit back unless they have to deduct any damages in which case you get a portion back. That way even if your landlord has no money your deposit is safe

32:05 What do you mean, it "depends on our land lord and his decision"? Would he be able to kick you out even if you wanted to renew the contract? Would the conditions change? I didn't take a deep dive into how this system works yet. Do the contractors only offer 2-year conctracts? While they pretty much have you pay the rent for whole 10 frickin' years as a guarantee (which might get spent by shady land lords in a few rare cases), and THEN pay a monthly rent on top of it...? And how much can you customize those apartments? Like painting the walls, drilling holes for boards and stuff, i mean.

I was raised to believe that home doesn't change, whether it's your childhood home or your first time buying an apartment/house. I know it could be an old way of thinking and outdated compared to how young people live today, student loans, not enough of available choices at a reasonable price etc. and I understand that of course. But I still feel this weird feeling when I meet people, friends who move regularly. Their parents maybe changing work places or just simply as a habit, when they reach an amount of time spent in their "new" home they feel the need to move. I get very attached to things myself so maybe this is just a viewpoint I cannot understand. But it's nonetheless interesting :)

well yeah, gangbuk has old buildings and thier layouts are strange, but if you try to find apartment in other part of seoul, you would find many apartments like no. 11~14 but also with large windows and open views. I also think apartment #14 has bit old layout. Those kind of veranda situation was started by state development companies in 70s and it stuck in the standard apartment layout design but just like you said, people hate it and it has disappeared in new constructions for like decades ago. And people just demolish the inner wall/window to expand thier living room and bedroom if they buy the old one.

Con 288k dólares te podes comprar una casa gigante, con espacios muy grandes en barrio privado en Argentina jajaja, es increíble lo caro que es vivir en Seúl

I have a problem with korean apartments, they look like hospitals, maybe its because of the lightning and the white walls. But the kitchen in apartment 11 was lovely

Yeah kinda agrees, I like white walls but lighting here is not ideal. Korea tend to like bright white LED lights because it makes the space looks “clean”. But it’s very harmful to the eyes and mind 😭💚

@@sisselab Oh im relieved that you agree 😅 Yes totally and the lightning isnt very cozy or relaxing, I think we are spoiled with being used to scandinavian homes 😌

Beautiful video and great content showing the many options available! But I’m trying to understand if this is renting or buying. The prices and conversions I didn’t fully understand. Any chance for a comment to help understand?
