The way Meryl Streep can manipulate her voice is nothing short of amazing. She'll go from high class to trailer park in one minute flat. It's my favorite part about her acting ability. You can really see it on full display and She-Devil too.

Fun Fact: Isabella Rossellini (who plays the "sorceress" Lisle) is the daughter of Ingrid Bergman (Casablanca). She is as gorgeous as her mother and also a phenomenal actress. I remember Goldie Hawn talking about how Kurt Russell watched this film with her and that he was laughing so hard she started to worry he couldn't breathe properly! Also, it's a great film for Bruce Willis as it's such a departure from his usual tough guy role.
@killinglonliness88

Actually, Bruce Willis started out doing comedy roles! When he did Die Hard, his first action tough guy role, most people laughed at the thought of him in that kind of role, until they saw it, and then he got typecast into those roles more often!

Dude, I clicked on this reaction video so fast. I appreciate how you two react to all genres of film, watch with an open mind, and go into the experience without reading about the plotlines beforehand. This is a campy dark comedy classic. I just realized that Madeline and Helen's hollow bodies at the end is a metaphor for them being completely empty, perpetually unfulfilled, unhappy people.

This movie was one of my favorite comedy horror movies. Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep were just a classic duo. I wish you would have been able to recognize more of the people that they had in the party scene there were so many celebrities there represented besides Elvis Jim Morrison James Dean.... But the whole film has just the basic belief that life is precious and should live it to its fullest.

When you have someone like Meryl Streep playing a role that seems to be flippant on the surface, there's always something deeper underneath. This movie feels like a farcical comedy but it's actually a commentary on superficiality, envy and ego. The fact that Streep plays the lead is also hilarious, because there have been ridiculous rumors for years about her alleged demands to be lit a certain way or only be filmed from a certain angle in close up lol She was mocking these perceptions of her along with telling an interesting story that's surprisingly more nuanced than expected.

Bruce's big break came on Moonlighting which was simultaneously a private investigation show and an increasingly surreal RomCom. His character was very funny. He did Die Hard while on that. Immortality sucks because if something kills off humanity, you're still alive, but truly alone.

I may have missed a few, but the classic celebrities i spotted at the mansion party included Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Andy Warhol, James Dean and Jim Morrison.A brilliant film. I love dark humour. You guys should check out the BBC comedy TV series 'The League of Gentlemen'. Its really funny, but the humour is very dark and twisted.

Greta Garbo was there, too. Lisle mentioned her as one of her first clients who “just wanted to be alone”. In real life, Garbo retired in 1941 at 35 and spent the last 49 years of her life (she died in 1990 at 84, just two years before the movie came out) in near seclusion, refusing to grant interviews or entertain more than a handful of people.

I love this movie so much! And I've found the more times you watch it, the more you notice the little things. Like when Ernest fell through the glass ceiling and survived! First of all, he has a big cut on his arm and the potion shattered on the glass ceiling (haven't you ever heard the term "shattering the glass ceiling" i.e. breaking expectations?), so when he hit the glass he landed face first. So he probably got some in his mouth. Then the glass broke and he fell in the pool (that was Jim Morrison from The Doors (Val Kilmer played him in a biopic) with the girl). Well the potion fell in the pool too! So, overall, I'm 99% sure Ernest digested/absorbed a tiny portion of the potion. Which, at most, healed his hand and the damage he'd done to his body from years of drinking. Didn't give him immortality, but it probably healed him back to pre-Helen, 15-20 yrs!

This movie keeps you on your toes man... That's what makes it so great. PLUS the fact that all three of them don't normally play their usual roles of who they are. Bruce Willis does not play a mild minded man in most of his movies and definitely not somebody who's a pushover. Meryl Streep is definitely not a narcissistic personality in any of her movies. Goldie Hawn came in playing the straight laced actress and then she went sideways and then just evil sarcastic gold! So this was just totally out of the realm of all three of them and that's why this is so cool as a movie. ALL 3 of them had seven different interviews that they love doing this movie because it was something that audiences never expected any of them to play and they worked really well with each other cuz I feel like they could let loose and just do anything because it was such a wild card storylines. #NYGenXBIKERLady

Goldie first was kinda sad actually that so many scenes were cut, especially the original ending (which she thought was the better one)... but I think when she eventually saw people's reactions to the new ending, she came around and was happy. I just really want to see the deleted scene with Helen and Ernest in the Beverly Hills hotelroom (happens after Helen spying on Ernest when he is at the mortuary)... Ernest drives towards the hotel and Helen realises it, so she cuts in front of him, jumps out of her car, runs into her room and shoves all the things from the Madeline shrine in her other room. Then Ernest knocks and she lets him in, he is absolutely convinced it's a miracle. Helen can't believe he actually thinks Madeline is alive so she throws a glass of water in his face and he asks for a towel in a defeated way😆. He tells he still loves Helen but he needs to help Madeline. Helen then does the hankerchief thing again where her hand starts to bleed. Goldie looks stunning in that scene.

Loved the reaction!!! The original cut of this film was much longer... They cut a way more cheesy ending (which took place in Switzerland) and a few scenes leading up to it that included another female character... bartender Toni (played by Tracey Ullman). They decided to reshoot the original ending when it didn't test well at prescreenings... the funeral scene was shot only 3 weeks before the US release and so the entire storyline with the Toni character was unneeded and removed. They also cut so much more. After 23:00 An entire sequence of Ernest going to Helen's hotel where he goes on about the miracle and then a whole DAY sequence was cut as well... When Ernest comes home again he sticks Madeline in the big freezer and he falls asleep on the couch. The next morning maid Rose comes in and discovers Madeline in the fridge... Madeline is awake and pissed off... and tells her to close it. Rose and the maids run to Ernest and he makes something up that it's just some weird beauty treatment Madeline read about in a magazine. Then Ernest gets Madeline out the fridge while Rose waits in the livingroom... Madeline complains being all stiff and he tells her it's rigor mortis, tells her to just walk it off and to put some avocado on her face. Ernest goes to the 3 maids and gives them some money and tells them not to come back. Madeline tries to walk towards the stairs all stiff and crunchy while reassuring the maids she is fine while she waves with her broken hand. The maids get out of the house and Ernest starts pulling Madeline up the stairs and promises to make her his masterpiece. We also see Helen exercising in her hotelroom while a bellhop brings the maps of death valley and we see her shopping for the burial items at the hardwarestore when the clerk implies she has killed someone she laughs maniacally.

I think it depends on the type of immortality modern or ancient. Ancient immortality is like what you see here where you literally can't die. That's a potentially nasty thing as you said. On the other hand a lot of modern takes are not aging but you can still die to injury/disease/etc. that one wouldn't be too bad I think as you have time to do everything you want and see the world change but if you do get bored you can still pass on to whatever comes next.

I think the immortality without the 'must live' part can just be called longevity. But the problem is actually not about living forever, but about staying young and healthy all the way through… Without a way of ending it, it can be seen as a curse. Every vampire story or the Highlander series did their takes on it.

Saw you guys recognized Elvis as one of the immortals but did you realize the guy in leather pants & white shirt who asks if they’re gonna be done soon in the pool is supposed to be Jim Morrison?

It's funny that they didn't notice that the guy at the pool was Jim Morrison and the car he stole was James Dean's car which means they took the position like Elvis did.

I use to watch this all the time when l was a kid. But l never noticed until a few years back that the person who was being resuscitated was the doctor (Sydney Pollak) that first examined her.

A little fun stuff...i couldnt find any info abut it, but when Isabella Rosselini asks "Guess how old i am?" and Meryl Streep answers "37!" The look on Isabellas face is priceless, pure schock and not acted, you can tell. So i asume, Meryl Streep was supposed to say a younger age and that just slipped out, because Isabella Rosselini was 36 at the time of filming

Meryl Streep "taking control" of her family in She-Devil was drop dead hilarious. Here, she uses her talents for laughs and delivers. All three are perfectly cast, with Willis getting to show his acting abilities. Does Death Becomes Her fall into the ZomCom genre? They do mention The Living Dead of Hollywood.

Y’all are always so fun. :) And this movie… what a trip!! Death Becomes Her is a long-time personal favorite. I first rented this movie at a West Coast Video (similar to Blockbuster) when I was around 9 years old, I think? No idea why my dad allowed it-maybe he forgot to check the rating. lol I just thought the cover of the VHS was hilarious looking so that’s why I grabbed it. DBH and Clue were both repeat rentals.😄 Additionally, I briefly spoke to Goldie Hawn about this movie when I saw her during a talk/comedy tour she did two decades ago. She was so entertaining and it was such an honor to have an exchange with her.
