Thanks for the refresher on measuring myself and the pattern pieces. I am so glad you survived the applesauce INSTAPOT experience. My sister swears by them. She got one for my Mother. I use it to cook for my Mom. I like it, but I can understand how confusing those instructions are. I have used pressure cookers for cooking meals and canning. There definitely is a learning curve. The name Instapot is misleading in some ways. It is faster than stewing a piece of meat for hours; in that way it is "Insta." I caught my breath when you said you put 6 lbs of apples, filled the pressure cooker 2/3 full, and then opened the pressure valve at full pressure! Oh my, Joy! I am so glad you were not scalded by all that boiling applesauce. At high pressure that would be 215 degrees F. Your product will expand, the water turns to steam, all under pressure. 😱 I love you Joy. Let the pressure fall to zero and the safety lock releases before you release the steam or attempt to open. Thank you Jesus.

Thank god you weren’t standing on top of that. My grandma had a sister that passed away as a child from being burned so bad from a pressure cooker. Back then bad burns weren’t treated as well as they are today.

I loved your applesauce story as it made me laugh out loud. "Death by Applesauce" Each time I use my Instapot, I use a my longest wooden spoon I own on the valve "just in case" and looking as if I'm poking windmills like Don Quixote! As a kid, I remember cooked tomatoes being splashed and spewed everywhere the kitchen and have not gotten over that evidently. Glad you didn't get burned!! 😂

I trace all my patterns and have taken classes from Judy. She creates garments from ideas she gets from people around her. Instead of folding and cutting through 4 layers for the sleeve, i fold medical exam paper in half vertically and trace out the sleeve onto the folded paper. Then remove original pattern and retrace pattern with a sharpy. Outline will show through to second side. If not, turn it over and trace on second half and open up. You now have a full pattern. Draw a dotted line down center along fold. You can use pattern folded like original or opened up. Also do this sometimes for front and back. You can see through pattern so don't end up with large flowers in wrong places at bust. Works great to line up plaids, too Only takes a couple minutes to trace both sides together and can drae horizontal lines on pattern to line up both sides as well. Love your videos They are so informative. I've been sewing for over 60 years but have learned a lot from them.

I'm glad I'm not the only one confused by instapots, I used a couple of times the ONLY thing that saved me from hurting myself, is that I pressure can veg/meats/soups, and I know the releasing and cooling mechanism takes a lot of time, so regardless of what directions say, I'm not going to open or touch anything until the pressure is reduced on its own. I think its not a good kitchen gadget all in all. I love the quick lesson on fitting a shirt.

I just started following you and you really crack me up! So much fun to watch you and learn too. When your Instant Pot says "L" that means it has already finished the cooking process and is holding on Low. It then starts counting back upwards, I think for up to thirty minutes or until you cancel the process. I love my IP and you will too if you give it a chance. Spaghetti is wonderful cooked in it and you don't have 20 gillion pots all dirty. And just think, I started following you for quilting/sewing tips and I'm giving you tips for cooking, LOL!!

Hilarious IP story. Maybe "L" = low. I learned how to use my IP from KZbin, of course. You can bring the pressure up quicker if you use the saute feature to get pot, liquid, and food sort of preheated; then enter your settings for the pressurized cooking. If the recipe called for quick release which is what you did, it is a bad recipe. If it called for a delayed release it should have stated how long to wait before releasing pressure. Love all the sewing tips, thank you, again. You are a joy. P.S. we recently rediscovered shake n bake for pork chops...juicy, flavorful, and quick.

Hi Joy, I’m glad you weren’t hurt by the scalding applesauce! I’ve made a couple of tops that have turned out extra wide at the shoulders, despite using the tape - it’s quite frustrating. A good independent hardware store is hard to find and with its weight in gold ( and you can find the large nuts to use as weights). The way you explain sizing, cutting out, etc just clicks in my brain. I’m like you, why did we think we were too big when we were young? I was skinny, just not a skinny as Twiggy or the popular girls. My prayer is that I can help my granddaughters see themselves as they truly are.

Thanks for the tutorial on measuring. I am impatient so I just start cutting then get mad when it doesn't fit. I'm going to do better on my next garment! And the instant pot - lol - l've never had anything spew from the steam vent. (Maybe the pot was too full?) And yes, the time on the directions is only for time under pressure. The quick release on the steam vent is to prevent over cooking. Some say "natural release" which gives the food more cook time. I love the sauté setting. I put some avocado oil in, let it get hot, add chopped onions, carrots, celery, peppers, zucchini, squash and sauté it all up with whatever meat and make taco meat, or soups or whatever. All done in one pan, less dishes. And I have meals for work all week.

Hi Joy You made my day. My first pressure cooker when ever the recipe says fast release, I carefully put the pot in a sinkful of cold water for the fast drop. Many recipes say drop of own accord in other words remove from heat and let it slowly release. I got rid of this pot because being aluminum it was said to be unhealthy. Bought lagostina stainless steel pressure cooker and the instructions were like yours. I was suppose to release it manually by pulling out pressure rocker. Tried with gloves on. No way. Too scary. Followed my previous cookers instructions and put in cold water. I have had the spraying, sputtering out of split chickpeas if I cook 2 cups over just one cup. Usually I throw a tea towel on top and turn down heat. I think I will keep my regular pressure cooker which I understand a bit better.

Watching you fit that top was like a light bulb turning on. Every knit is different and each garment is going to take tweaking to get the fit right because each knit fabric will stretch differently unlike a woven. I can't just take my Sure Fit Designs blueprint and make a knit without adjusting the fit as you go. Baste the seams, try on, adjust, baste again etc. Do you ever get a satisfactory mannequin that imitates your shape? I wonder if that would have saved some time and effort using the form to test the fit and seeing where the shoulders were before attaching the sleeves.

Mrs. B. you fabulous gift has arrived. Yesterday to be exact, and it is NICE. I have to fill you in on what has been going on here. I have a plan for fabric already but, Friday night was spent at the hospital. Bill, had what I thought might be a heart attack. So 911 at 9 @ night. No attack but still in chest pain. So I spent night in recliner. Hubby still in some discomfort. I went home and cleaned up. When I got back he had been transferred to Heart Hospital and heavily medicated. When they approached him he became violent. So…. Anyway the MDs had agreed to keep him another night. Observation. Well at 9:00 were going home. “We can do anything we want done as out patient”. So off we went. He slept thru the night until 4. It is now 11:26 at night of 1-8-23. But was I tired. He is sound to sleep. So today was the first day to really look at your wonderful gift. Just asking for your prayers. No more pain. By 2-28-23 he will be in a locked facility. So your lovely gift has been put away for now. So bye for now. Just also pray for me. ❤️☝️😢👍🤠Glo from Bullard, Tx.

My goodness Glo. I'm not sure what "locked facility" means, but I pray everything comes out good in the end.

@@Joy4650B It is a medical facility that cares for dementia or Alzheimer’s patients. It is locked so they can’t wonder away. A sad situation but needed. God is good that the one he is being placed in is family owned and Christian. Please keep me and him in your prayers. I need all the prayer warriors I can muster up. God Bless you and hubby. By the way how is he doing? 🌠☝️✝️💋🤠

Oh, my, love you and your stories. Just another product to get your $$$. My husband watches that crap on TV & orders it AND I do not use them. He would buy the Brooklyn bridge.

I really miss Hancocks. I use FOE all the time but I understand how it could cause some skin irritation.

It took me a while to get over my reluctance to use the Instapot but I live it for hard boiled eggs and brown rice. I think “L” means Low pressure.

Great measuring advice! No shoulder police here, but yes if it bothers you that bad definitely fix it!😉 I remember the lounge gown Haha I made one.. the sewing diva one❤ Yes the instant pot is good or bad with the pressure. It took me awhile to figure it out. I personally like to cook several pounds of chicken and shred and freeze for the month. But husband said no chicken right now lol.. he's tired of it. L is done lol not sure what it means??😂🤣😂🤣 six sisters KZbin channel and website are really good with explaining the instant pot!
