I recently took a fitting course and learned so much, but still have a lot to learn. I have given up on commercial patterns because they have so much ease and they don't provide the finished garment measurements in most cases. I mostly buy Indie patterns as I find they provide so much more information, allowing me to work out exactly which size I need to make. Of course, I often have to grade between sizes, which is no problem, and do an FBA, but I don't worry about those now, they have become second nature. Before trying a new pattern designer, I work out the bust/waist/hip rations and try to pick designers that use a block that most closely represents my body, aging and changing though it is, lol. I am currently working on fitting pants, which is trickier than fitting a bust!

This is why I like your videos. I know there is three different ways to do this and you take just one to demonstrate it. I fit it on a mannequin first. you told me about buttermilk patterns and I now know to adjust the neck on all buttermilk patterns or they are going to gape. I watch you do the round back with Philly. I know you have done pants but it is hard to find that video especially the one where you and Philly are fitting each other.

One tip for reducing surprises when you’re making up your first sample: First, measure your body & measure your pattern, in those same areas ( seam to seam) Add whatever ease you like to use at the bust waist, hips, biceps. and then compare the two.

That is right Diana. My very first video was about exactly that.
