I’d say that the sound of perseverance is the best Death album. With songs like Scavenger of human sorrow, spirit crusher, flesh & the power it holds, a moment of clarity, the awesome cover of Judas Priest’s, Painkiller & the iconic instrumental track, voice of the soul, it’s hard to top this album.

Mario S I feel like that one gets the least appreciation, no? Maybe I’m wrong about that, but that’s the vibe I’ve gotten. I think it’s great though. Having come out of a childhood going to a crazy evangelical school and super fundamentalist family, I’ve always liked Chuck’s critical themes that relate on Spiritual Healing, and just the more “mature” direction, in general. Don’t get my wrong, I love the first two albums, and the brutal violence and gore can be cathartic with the brutal playing, but I really prefer lyrics that are more “cerebral”, and no doubt SH is where Chuck really started the transformation and progression of Death. ✌️

I fucking know, when it comes to choosing the best album of Death, it's impossible, at least for me, it's very subjective and by what I've seen, people can choose their favorite albums based on discovering them by an album or simply because of how they feel by listening to a certain type of album from Death. I love them all, and I would suffer if someone asked me to only choose one.

I prefer the original mix. It sounds so huge and alien which suits the material. The remix may sound more "pro" but also more conventional. I like my Death Metal when it sounds like it's purposefully standing apart from rock conventions, on some distant vacant planet.

This is a great idea.......keep reviewing the classics. Introduce some of these younger metal heads to things they never would have thought to listen to otherwise. There is SO MUCH amazing material from the 80s and early 90s.......I think you'll get more viewers/ subscribers if you throw a classic review into the mix once a week or so. Hope you all continue to do this! FYI I would rank Symbolic and The Sound of Perserverence albums right up there with this one

My first Death album ever, the one which introduced me to the metal band I love the most. I've experienced all those passages mentioned by you, Blayne. The drumming intro, followed by the building-up riff and few seconds later... everything started to kick in both my ears and my brain. THOSE RIFFS, THOSE SOLOS, THOSE DRUMS, THOSE VOCALS, THOSE LYRICS... Everything sounded brutal, listenable and technical at the same time. During those years I wasn't a big fan of death metal and I used to listen mostly to thrash but that album, togheter with Cause of Death by Obituary, changed my mind and I've never turned back. To be honest, I even liked the Scott Burns production, that typical "death metal from florida" sound, which he created at his Morrisond Studios in Tampa. Later, I've discovered Cynic and I understood why Chuck has choosen Masvidal and Reinert to be part of the band for the Human recording sessions and tour. Sadly, two of those guys have left us but I will never forget them for what they have given us trough their music.

This album was so BRUTAL the sounds on both the original master and the Re-master are just crushing. Chuck's lyrics evolve and so do his vocals. His lower growl is at it's peak on this record and it shows he took it as far as he could when you consider the route he went for Individual Thought Patterns. The same applies to the musical approach on this record. You see the bass come to the forefront a little more and DEATH starts creating big musical "landscapes" that the listener becomes immersed in. Listen to it with good headphones, it will suck you in and not let go till Vacant Planets. A classic that I think still holds up considering I was 3 when it was released and fell in love with it at 17 or 18 (around 2005/2006). As far as favorite album goes, it's impossible for me to call, listening to the evolution of this band throughout it's career is the most fulfilling thing for me.
@AlucardsQuest
@AlucardsQuest Жыл бұрын
Sony didn't lose the master tapes, they just didn't want to give them up initially. Human was actually remixed by Jim Morris of Morrisound per Chuck's final wishes (Jim unfortunately due to illness wasn't available for the Individual Thought Patterns remix, but Alan Duches did a pretty good job on that). Also the album cover was certainly a reference to the band encountering a horrible car accident (and there wasn't much they could do to help) where two people eventually died from their wounds... Yeah, that affected the album. This is all in the liner notes of the deluxe edition remix/remaster.

I remember a time before the Human album, when I thought, "Death possibly can not get any better than what they already are, and possibly can not get any more extreme!!"... Boy was was I very wrong!!! I was about 15 years old when Human was released. I was at a friend's house, and he asked me, "have you heard the new Death album yet??"... knowing.damn well I had not. He put the disc in the player, and handed me the cover. It was unlike anything I had seen from Death....and then I heard the drums slowly fading in.....then the guitars came in!!! I was blown away at how crushing of a guitar tone was coming through the speakers!!!! BOOM!!!! Big ass tempo change!! The speed of the double bass, floored me!!! Chuck's vocals had never sounded so aggressive!!!! This album changed how I thought of music, how I listened to music, and even how I played music!!! The impact that Human had on me, and still to this day does, I don't think I can fully convey.

Please do Individual Thought Patterns next! What a hell of a ride of an album that was!! It's so juicy and... you know what? Just let the album speak for itself and let the fans judge

Amazing album. Every Death album is perfect but this is a landmark album for sure. I think other good albums for this series would be Carcass' Heartwork and Emperor's In the Nightside Eclipse.

IMO Sound of Perseverance takes the cake. The progressive elements and Death metal elements of that album were far beyond it's time and still stand up to metal produced today.

It´s an awesome album, the drums are insanely good. I´m a new Death fan and right now Sound of Perseverance is my favorite album.

Had the same opinion years ago, but over time human has inched its way to the top. It’s so good.

There’s nothing about SoP that’s ahead of its time, Death already made that sound for years prior and prog Metal already had far more accomplished and more interesting albums by the.

As far as I know, Sony lost the master tape for 'Leprosy', not 'Human'. The album was remixed and remastered by Jim Morris, and it sounds amazing.

4:50 "What a cool album. And then the album just ends. It just ends. W-wait wait wait..." I think we all can agree how that feel was. It's like when you're playing with your cat, you keep hugging her and don't wanna let her go and suddenly he ran away from you. Or your beloved ones just leave you all of a sudden and it hurts and sickening. "What? No warning? No second chance?"

Death was awesome right away. I really like the early stuff as well as the more technical stuff on later albums.

I think Symbolic is the best record followed by Human, Spiritual healing, sound of perseverance. Followed by individual thought patterns then leprosy and scream bloody gore. In that specific order. Cause I fucking know...Chuck is the king of kings! R.I.P. 🤘 When he passed away I felt a supreme emptiness in my soul. I couldn’t cry but I wanted to. He inspired how I play and so he lives on with all of us eternally and internally.

protolexis TSOP is far from being a death metal album. It’s a progressive metal album with harsh vocals, not innovative whatsoever, but still a great album.
