With songs like Scavenger of human sorrow, spirit crusher, flesh & the power it holds, a moment of clarity, the awesome cover of Judas Priest’s, Painkiller & the iconic instrumental track, voice of the soul, it’s hard to top this album.

Mario S I feel like that one gets the least appreciation, no? Maybe I’m wrong about that, but that’s the vibe I’ve gotten. I think it’s great though. Having come out of a childhood going to a crazy evangelical school and super fundamentalist family, I’ve always liked Chuck’s critical themes that relate on Spiritual Healing, and just the more “mature” direction, in general. Don’t get my wrong, I love the first two albums, and the brutal violence and gore can be cathartic with the brutal playing, but I really prefer lyrics that are more “cerebral”, and no doubt SH is where Chuck really started the transformation and progression of Death. ✌️

I fucking know, when it comes to choosing the best album of Death, it's impossible, at least for me, it's very subjective and by what I've seen, people can choose their favorite albums based on discovering them by an album or simply because of how they feel by listening to a certain type of album from Death. I love them all, and I would suffer if someone asked me to only choose one.

My first Death album ever, the one which introduced me to the metal band I love the most. I've experienced all those passages mentioned by you, Blayne. The drumming intro, followed by the building-up riff and few seconds later... everything started to kick in both my ears and my brain. THOSE RIFFS, THOSE SOLOS, THOSE DRUMS, THOSE VOCALS, THOSE LYRICS... Everything sounded brutal, listenable and technical at the same time. During those years I wasn't a big fan of death metal and I used to listen mostly to thrash but that album, togheter with Cause of Death by Obituary, changed my mind and I've never turned back. To be honest, I even liked the Scott Burns production, that typical "death metal from florida" sound, which he created at his Morrisond Studios in Tampa. Later, I've discovered Cynic and I understood why Chuck has choosen Masvidal and Reinert to be part of the band for the Human recording sessions and tour. Sadly, two of those guys have left us but I will never forget them for what they have given us trough their music.

This album was so BRUTAL the sounds on both the original master and the Re-master are just crushing. Chuck's lyrics evolve and so do his vocals. His lower growl is at it's peak on this record and it shows he took it as far as he could when you consider the route he went for Individual Thought Patterns. The same applies to the musical approach on this record. You see the bass come to the forefront a little more and DEATH starts creating big musical "landscapes" that the listener becomes immersed in. Listen to it with good headphones, it will suck you in and not let go till Vacant Planets. A classic that I think still holds up considering I was 3 when it was released and fell in love with it at 17 or 18 (around 2005/2006). As far as favorite album goes, it's impossible for me to call, listening to the evolution of this band throughout it's career is the most fulfilling thing for me.
@AlucardsQuest Жыл бұрын
Sony didn't lose the master tapes, they just didn't want to give them up initially. Human was actually remixed by Jim Morris of Morrisound per Chuck's final wishes (Jim unfortunately due to illness wasn't available for the Individual Thought Patterns remix, but Alan Duches did a pretty good job on that). Also the album cover was certainly a reference to the band encountering a horrible car accident (and there wasn't much they could do to help) where two people eventually died from their wounds... Yeah, that affected the album. This is all in the liner notes of the deluxe edition remix/remaster.

Boy was was I very wrong!!! I was about 15 years old when Human was released. I was at a friend's house, and he asked me, "have you heard the new Death album yet??"... knowing.damn well I had not. He put the disc in the player, and handed me the cover. It was unlike anything I had seen from Death....and then I heard the drums slowly fading in.....then the guitars came in!!! I was blown away at how crushing of a guitar tone was coming through the speakers!!!! BOOM!!!! Big ass tempo change!! The speed of the double bass, floored me!!! Chuck's vocals had never sounded so aggressive!!!! This album changed how I thought of music, how I listened to music, and even how I played music!!! The impact that Human had on me, and still to this day does, I don't think I can fully convey.
