The thing that annoyed me the most is that Light isn't a bullied edgelord in the manga. What makes him so great as a character is that he is so charismatic and well-liked. He's attractive, gets good grades and has a great reputation. People LOVE him, that's what makes him so menacing when he starts spiralling. L in the film is aight, I remember him being a bit too emotional but Light is so, so wrong as a character in the Netflix film. Edit: He's also incredibly smart and diligent. This dude was a whiny impulsive teen.

The Name got changed into "Mango" because the Japanese Hated (really hated!) the Chinese (the Japanese thought that the Chinese invented Mango manly because they didn't really saw a differents between Mongolians, Koreans, Chinese, Vietnamese ...), so they changed the Name into Manga (Actually first into "Maga" and then into Manga). Having not seen the anime, this movie was just a mess. I can’t speak for manga or anime, but based on the characters presented in the movie, there was no worthwhile character development. They didn’t even utilize the traits that were presented. You’d think that such a smart kid would have read the entirety of the rules, talked with Ryuk and researched the damn thing before writing in the Death Note. Also, there is no reason for the girlfriend to be in the movie except to cause an underwhelming twist. I can see the concept but this movie was shit.

Thadius Meyers Light Yagami(the original character) did exactly what you expected:he carefully read the rules, experimented and covered his tracks to a paranoia level. The reason L was called on the case was because Kira baffled the *world* police network, he was that good!

I personally understand if you don’t wanna watch the anime, but after watching the movie, I’d really suggest watching the anime to anyone. In my opinion, the anime was really complex and plays with your mind. The way they put together the story and how Light (almost) gets away with killing all of those people is phenomenal. By the end, I was extremely emotionally attached to the characters, and, yeah, maybe that’s because it’s a show and lasts longer, but characters like Wilson (don’t judge me) from Cast Away and Woody from Toy Story are really good characters- in movies. The movie didn’t use some of the best parts from the show, so to fill those holes GO WATCH DEATH NOTE IT’S TRUELY THE LIGHT OF MY LIFEEEEE

Light in the anime is ridiculously smart, and it's pretty much a Sherlock Holmes versus Moriarty style matchup the entire time, with both L and Light scheming against each other. In the movie, they basically removed the whole detective story and replaced it with suspense and teen drama. Movie-Light wasn't even a villain, he seemed more like a dupe the entire movie being instigated by Mia and Ryuuk, in the anime, it's clear he's the driving force behind everything.

Honestly, the concept of someone having the Death Note and not being ready for it, and being manipulated/betrayed by someone much more sadistic taking advantage of the note, could be a good story for a death note spinoff. But literally everything else here outside of that bone marrow of a story is poison.
@gaminggalaxies66336 жыл бұрын
The death note doesn't kill people based on how probable the specified death is, just that if it's possible at all. Even if there was a small chance of Light falling from 47 meters and being fine, the death note would force reality to carry out what's written.

Are you being serious? In the show it's based on what the person can physically cause. Ryuk cannot interfere with anything. For example, write down someone to travel around the other side of the world before they die in the specified time, they'd just die of a heart attack due to the limitations. Ryuk wouldn't carry them over to the other side of the world. Lets say they asked the to destroy a building. They can't destroy a building. It's the humans limitation. Not a limitation based on real life physics. I give credit to the channel owner for research on it

I feel like people don''t realize this, but in this movie it seems like Ryuk is the being responsible for making everything writen happen. So because he can do 'magic' he is actually the one that makes all of the events happen at the end of the film, including the page conveniently falling and burning, Light surviving, and the ferris wheel breaking for no reason. And yes, I am aware that it is very stupid, but it seems to be what the intended for this 'adaptation'.
@longliverocknroll56 жыл бұрын
lailaylen But that is still inconsistent with the rules set up in the movie.
@gonnadestroymattsass10155 жыл бұрын
@@longliverocknroll5 Being possible is not equivalent to being plausible. The few electronics in the ferris wheel overheating, not likely, but it could happen. A peice of paper floating 30 feet away and landing in a on fire garbage can, 1/1000000 maybe, but it could happen. The movie is still inconsistent, but the rule of possibility never broke. (I am very late, but just saw this video in my recommended)
@longliverocknroll55 жыл бұрын
@@gonnadestroymattsass1015 You're reaching at best. We could "possibly" exist in the Matrix, that doesn't make the Matrix a movie that is functionally possible.
@longliverocknroll55 жыл бұрын
@@gonnadestroymattsass1015 Also, you'd have to add the odds of the Ferris wheel overheating to that of the paper floating 30 feet away on top of every single other thing that happened to set those events in motion. You wouldn't be talking about 1/1,000,000. You'd be talking about an incalculable odd. Things that are impossible to calculate in the context of odd are, for all intents and purposes, impossible. You either need more information (which the movie never gives us-and not in an intentional way) or it's simply not possible given the logic of the film.
@gonnadestroymattsass10155 жыл бұрын
@@longliverocknroll5 You have an amazing point, the wording of the rule was that it must be possible. Could you win the lottery, yeah. Will you win the lottery, that's a big fuck no. If the rule was "Must be probable" the movie would've shot itself in the foot and the ending would've been even more of a mess. But possible allows them a lot of wiggle room. I do agree that the ending is dumb as hell. It is just that they didn't break that specific rule in that outrageous seen. Ryuk being in 2 places at once is already kinda fucky. The movie definitely could've been scripted by a confused 7-year-old and had less plot holes that magically fixed themselves. TL;DR Death God said "Welp, you kinda fucked me" then used magic to make a probability that is the equivalent of getting struck by lighting and a meteorite at the same time happen

The idea behind Death Note is certainly one that you reuse to create your own Story from it. Different character's with different motivations. Incerase the scale of cut it down. Make the owner of the Death Note not a psychopath with a god complex, but someone trying to hide the supernatural power that killed all these people. You CAN also usethe original story and rework it. It is totally possible. Fiddle in some of your own twist and it can work. Death Note is great, because you could take any point of the series, change one decision and rewrite everything from there. But this movie is just a weird mix of keepin the characters and rewriting the whole story.
@cercieshaia94983 жыл бұрын
The story in the movie was so different it may as well have been different characters. It still wouldn't be very good, but it wouldn't have to stigma of being a completely failed adaptation. I agree the basic concept of Death Note is open to anyone finding the notebook somehow.

To me, the most impossible part was that Watari even made it to the Whammy House to begin with. Sure, it's now in New York rather than England like it was in the original series, but that's still a 43 hour drive, nonstop, from Seattle to wherever in New York the orphanage is, going through like 5 toll roads, several major cities, and dozens of speed-trap small towns. That leaves just 5 hours in the 48hr timelimit for sleep, eating, bathroom breaks, filling up on gas, or even just normal traffic delays. Presumably, if Watari only took a 4 hour powernap after the first full day of travel and subsisted entirely on whatever candy bars had been stashed in the glove compartment for L, it would be just barely possible to make it to the orphanage on time if he sped heavily the whole way and only stopped for brief gas fill-ups, but that's really straining credibility for obvious reasons. We're supposed to believe that Watari makes this trip, while exhausted, lacking in sleep, starving to death, and covered in his own excrement, never being stopped once by a police officer (which would have tipped off L and his team as to where he is), never once using a credit or debit card when filling up on gas (same as before), and never having even the slightest traffic jam. Moreover, from Watari's second call to Light, it's clear he spends a several hours blindly wandering through the forest looking for it, since he doesn't actually know the location. Realistically, the moment Light tried to write the convoluted nonsense where Watari somehow makes it to Whammy House and tries to hand over the name, he would have had a heart attack, because the trip was essentially impossible from the very beginning.

The ending scene was the only thing even reminiscent of the genius and complexity of the Anime series, despite its multiple plotholes and deviations from the Death Notebook's basic rules

Assuming you’re talking about Light falling from that height... Aerodynamics doesn’t mean much here. He’s a grown man being pulled down by gravity into the water, which has surface tension. Surface tension means that water sticks together (really well in fact) due to hydrogen bonds. Light hitting the water from this height is, in effect, the same as him landing on the ground. Nothing broke the surface tension of the water here, so it was like he essentially hit a solid surface after falling from a high height. But you can still explain aerodynamics if you want.

13:56 Yeah, there may be a contrived reason for the ferris wheel to fall apart. But the page simply falling into the fire straight up BREAKS THE LAWS OF PHYSICS! There's an upward current of hot air right coming from the fire. And the page, taking the path it does, would go straight throug it and be swept up again. It's not like this couldn't have been made plausible (e.g. the page coming in more from the side), but they didn't even bother.

The intended audience of something with a budget like this is always the general public. It always makes me laugh when people act surprised that they're not catering to fans of the original work like it's some huge surprise.

Ryuk was there when the wheel broke and ryuk being present probably enhanced the power of the death note

That man could not have survived that fall, in A Silent Voice, Shoya almost died, getting knocked into a coma, at half that height
