Going to be a helpful Russian here - it's Baba YagA (accent on the A). She also resides in a wooden house on CHICKEN LEGS, and her favorable method of commute is sitting in a wooden mortar and using a broom as a wheel. And I was scared shitless of her being a small girl growing on up on those fairy-tales. Forests are scary, but I'm afraid of the plains and praires. Because there is nowhere to hide, nowhere to run, and seeing a single figure (bush?monster? murderer?) in the distance in an abosuletely empty environment and not knowing how exactly far away it is - it's a much scarier concept for me personally. Thank you for your hard work, these videos are amazing.
@FilmHerald8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for contributing! That's really interesting actually; I also feel uncomfortable in the prairies. I grew up always surrounded by mountains. Going to the prairies, where you can see an endless horizon, is unsettling for some reason.

Yeah dude try visiting Khakassia - it's a huge (Russia-huge) place with shamans, salty dead lakes and rapists nomads. Very pretty in the daytime though. Is there any way we could support you? Are you coming up with the Patreon soon?
@ssffe5295 жыл бұрын
I know I'm three years late but I used to live between a lake and a prairie in my early years of growing up of living in southern US. Its a very pretty place to live at even though it was dry most of the time. I get why people would be scared though cause sometimes whenever I used to play in the gravel near the trailer house, I found it eerie each time the cicadas and birds stop making noise and it was just silent. There were fun adventures though and it was easy to not get lost since there's not many trees so it was an overall good early childhood for me.

No, I grew up camping a lot so I never developed a fear of forests, because I was around them all the time and had good memories in them. Every time I see a photo that's supposed to trigger someone's hylophobia I just get a relaxed feeling. I understand why a lot of horror takes place in forests, but I think the scariest thing you have to worry about in a forest is walking into a big-ass spider web.

Nah in my personal opinion forest are scary af not because wild animals but because of humans... Once I was like you but 1 month ago I was with my friends in a forest around 22:30 and a guy was probably trying to scare us off or something but we flashed our flashlights to the bushes and we saw nothing when we came up closer the guy in the Bush charged at us but he saw we were running and he didn't pop out the Bush... I don't care what people say I love woods but the people in them freak me out.. I ain't scared of wolfs and stuff like that because they are scared of people but other people are scary to mee if I can't see or hear them
@EeekGeek5 жыл бұрын
The reason why I’m scared of forest is because of an experience I had while in a cabin in the woods with my mom, when I was asleep on the first night I had a fucked up dream where I woke up in the middle of the night and saw the front door of the cabin open so I get up out of the bed and go outside with a flashlight, which is the stupidest thing that dream me could have done, and looked around the forest to find whoever opened the front door of the cabin and while in the woods I realized I’m lost when all of a sudden I turn and point my flashlight at a space in between some trees and see red eyes and I start looking around and see red eyes staring at me from everywhere and all of a sudden something lunges out of the dark at me and I wake up scared. Needless to say I will never spend the night in a cabin in the woods and or go into woods with a flashlight at night at all

Growing up I would walk home from school with my friend, Ramon, he is from Guam. On our path there was a forest, before entering Ramon would insist that I ask permission from the forest to enter the domain so as to please the spirits of the forest. When we would bring others we would insist they did the same. Over the years the forest got smaller and smaller and now I'm sure it is gone.

I attended a leadership camp and they used Hylophobia as a way of showing how irrational fears can hold you back. So we tackled all this head-on by doing things like night hikes without flashlights and solo vision quests. These fears of loneliness, hylophobia, and night were all present here. It seems as though these fears are hardwired into our brain and seemingly impossible to lose. All these fears together and apart play tricks on you. At night your brain will subconsciously paint an image of what your brain thinks you are seeing, this could be nothing or it could be a murderer just beyond your sight. With loneliness, your brain will perceive that anything you do not do, like a twig breaking or an object settling as the act of someone, your brain will also delve deep into your brain and rethink many different things and even twist your memories to make it seem like your friend doesn't actually like you or things like that. With hylophobia you are encountering both fears since forest canopies block out a lot of light and you can't always see society. At a young age, we are taught to fear all these things, through ways like being told to hold our mother's hand, having babysitters to keep us company, being told to go to sleep because it is night, not being able to go outside when it is dark, and being told to not go into the woods.

I LOVED how subtle 3:37 was. The moment you started doing those shots, I immediately started looking for suspicious stuff in the background. And I'm actually one of those people that thinks Blair Witch is boring. I didn't care about the characters and the setting/"plot" didn't really catch my attention. It's actually one of the horror movies I was most dissapointed with, alongside some other movies horror fans call masterpieces/outstanding. (*cough*Rosemary's Baby*cough*Original Chainsaw Massacre*cough*.) And I actually really dislike found footage films because I hate the constant shaky filming. It drives me mad. Yours was pretty good though. Loved the ending. Also, I'd never go out alone in the woods at night.

When I was little, I was a Boy Scout, and I was always so cocky when we went on camping trips, thinking I was so cool to be out in the forest. But one night me and two of my friends got lost in the woods for hours, and I couldn’t stop hearing things around us, and seeing movement out of the corner of my eyes. It was terrifying, and once we finally got back at almost 3 AM, I nearly started crying. I’ve never felt the same about the woods since, and every trip after that I would never leave the camp site without staying on a trail and being with someone else. Even then, walking in the woods would give me goosebumps, make my heart race, and make my eyes dart all over the woods looking for something that I know I didn’t want to see.

I live in New Zealand, where we have no Forest predators like: Bears, Wolves, Snakes, Foxes, Bigfoot, mountain Lions or Trumps. The largest native predator we have here is a short tailed bat. But every time i go into the Forrest or bush or Waitakere (name of the forrest outside of Auckland,) i still feel uneasy and scared. Maybe it is because of the Maori legends and true stories of cannibalism. But you should have talked about how Predator also does this in the same way, where the Predator is able to blend into the bush extremely well. And there is no visible or audible sign of it approaching on-top of not being able to see very well at all. But keep up the great videos.

I have no problem with forests until night. I agree with what your friend said, the strange underlying fear of the unknown, and somehow not wanting to now.

Hobbes better than hillary, maybe not the best option but to choose between orange man, lady showing psychotic tendencies and lying about a lot of treason level thing, and creepy dude that is borderline communist, yeah a dude that got a bad spray tan seems like the best option

Random Human actually chainsaws are incredibly infective weapons although with enough effort it would be a very painful and slow death

I like the 3:37 - 3:46 bit. Nice edit. I have found forests creepy since i was little. Something about it makes me very uncomfortable, it doesn't really matter if it's day or night time. When i am on my mountainbike i can handle day and night, but when on foot i just want to get out of it as soon as possible
