Neat video but there's two notable problems with it. -Comparing DNF Duel's promotion to SF6. A game that was formally announced well after DNF Duel launched. A better comparison would've been something like MK11, Strive, Melty Blood, etc. -Solely blaming ArcSys. As you've mentioned, DNF Duel is based on the existing IP Dungeon Fighter Online. A Nexon owned IP. Much like Granblue Versus, most of the blame goes to the IP holder and not the co-developer (Eighting also developed DNF Duel). Nexon is dictating what the game should and shouldn't have in terms of stages, characters, character designs (Launcher being base FGunner's outfit with FMechanic's hair and goggles), and even manhandling the scheduling. For all we know, Nexon could've been forcing the devs to rush the game out to meet a deadline that aligned with a DFO update.
@Gadlight Жыл бұрын
Not to mention, a case study could be made about this, since GBVS is getting everything people wanted from the game with Rising, meaning, Cygames DID listen to their playerbase and improved their product to meet demands, total opposite of Nexon.

This game had a lot of potential to evolve into something great with an interesting cast and gameplay that coulda been refined over time. But that takes Dev support and dedication. You have to show your initial base and people interested in the game that you care about it’s future, much less show the consumer that it has a future. It’s hard to say if what we got with this game was always what was intended or if some behind the scenes issues held it back. There was and still is so much silence coming from developers. The first patch when it finally came was weak. It took forever for the next one and it feels like we’ve been gas lit about new characters. Lots of fighting games have issues but when you handle it right you can keep people believing in your game. We shoulda had at least 2 new characters in game by now and gameplay tweaks

I disagree with the interesting cast bit. It honestly looks very typical of anime casts, and like most anime-games, INSISTS that it's entire roster is human (even the characters that aren't SUPPOSED to be human) which generally leaves very little room for creativity. The game isn't an Arc System Works owned game though so they're not really losing any money on this as they're paid only to do the work for the owners of the IP who wanted this game made. This is all Nexon's doing. We can't really fault ASW for the way this game turned out as they are only doing what Nexon wants them to do and approve of. The warning signs of this game was already there from the very beginning about if you should steer clear of the game or give it a shot. Nexon is infamous for their pump and dump attitude towards their IPs. If it isn't a huge seller on their end like the Maple Story or Mabinogi / Mabinogi Heroes franchise, you need to be cautious about investing time and money in their next project. If you bought the game having full knowledge of their history and still felt hurt over it, you can't blame no one but yourself (which most of the FGC found out). If you bought the game having full knowledge of this and put your expectations to the lowest setting as possible (like myself), then you walked away from this knowing the game was destined to fail and not be so hurt about it. I'm sorry, even if it has ASW name over it for making it, as long as NEXON's name show up, it is more than likely going to fail.

I think what used to frustrate people. Is that some character had touch of death combos, when in the awakening state, which was not difficult to execute or hard to find an opening for it. So like some people put in all that work, and they are full health, enemy is at pixel health. Then gets a hit in and just 1 combos them to death, and it was quite common too. I honestly think if they removed the stuff where a character can touch you just once, or 2 touch, or 3-4 touch you to death type of combos. Music, character designs, and artwork was fabulous though and the stages. But i honestly feel the just touching you once, twice, or four times to death combos is what scared away casual players, and also upset a lot of veteran fighting game players.

Here's the thing about DNF Duel. There's an audience out there for busted-ass games. Some people like spending time with those games and pushing the limits of what you can do. However, even those players aren't interested in DNF Duel, because it's busted in a boring way. It's not like Marvel where you use your assists to put your opponent into a lethal mixup situation, or Fist of the North Star where you can basketball dribble your opponent to death, in DNF Duel you just... hit your fullscreen buttons which your opponent can't play around because of the sluggish movement, start your blockstring that chips out their entire guard bar, and then do an easy combo into super to kill them. Nothing to lab, nothing to practice, nothing cool to show off. Doesn't appeal to casual players or hardcore fighting game fans. Plus the really strong awakening affects essentially meant that you were rewarded for being on low health, which I think it's safe to say most players don't find fun.

theres alot of misinformation in this video. 1.Not every anime game are force to have air blocking or air dashing. thats not a good reason to dislike a game because one game has airdashes. 2. Every anime game has long oppresive buttons and TOD's from in system game mechanics like sparking from DBFZ for example. Also the TOD you showed with LW is fake and characters in this game only have TOD's when they are in awakening or punishing a DP and usually DP punishes have to be a low health character like swift master. overall theres hardly TOD's in this game. 3.Also the "unbalance" part was only acceptable before swift master got nerfed. after the first patch every character in this game was toping events except for launcher and LW. shows you havent been keeping up with the game entirely and is basically misinformation. 4. The guard metter complaint is hypocritical cuz alot of fighting games have guard metter and guard break set ups and preasure and this game is no different. getting 70% of your health taken away just means that you didnt properly use guard cancel and stayed blocking or you just dont know the match up to roll out of situations that can lead you to a guard break. they also removed true guard breaks the first patch of the game so guard breaking mindlessly doesnt exist anymore. 5.also the lack of content is hypocritical considering that alot of fighting game for years were released with nothing but 1v1 battles and the only one that changed was SF6. people been playing these games with half content and said nothing but then out of now where use that excuse towards this game to throw it under a buss for zero reason aside from being "not strive" us stupid. 6.The main reason why everyone hates this game out of the blue is cuz unlike strive, this game is not forgiving. theres no wall break to save you or a burst mechanic. strive is designed to be as chaoticly beginner friendly game as posible with how the game is formated by the devs. they want you to work less and earn big which is why people stayed. a random person can mash in strive and win games at the highest rank with how random it intentionally is. DNF is the opposite of that, if you not playing right you die and theres nothing to hold your hand when playing the game just like older fighting games. 7. the main thing that TRUELY killed this game is the lack of dev communication but as far as that goes by how silent they were at even announcing a character. not to mention regional pricing is terrible is some areas to be 400 equivalent to USD in some areas. this game is not bad, yeah it has huge buttons and its sometimes annoying but aside from that the game is better then most anime fighting games out there. but its the community that throws it down the drain do to scrub mentality. modern fgc players dont wanna adapt and spend time learning they just wanna imedietly win.

What they announced (spectre + 4 more characters) with new awakening system (minor change) + new battle system doesn't seem enough the way they announced it. If you want people to have another look on your game, you have to show actual big changes not minor ones. So I think the battle system update will be another minor change like more mobility that's it (showing grappler at that specific moment where everyone knows it's his main problem). But if everyone gets more mobility options, it won't help grappler specifically. Its not the mechanics that killed this game... nexon responded very late to feedback and left the game in a shitty state after launch for months on end, only making changes that did not directly respond to playerbase initially, and after another long wait, made relevant changes but by this time, everyone had left. Nexon then announced dlc roadmap which should have been done right after launch, but by this time no one stuck around to care. Poor management killed it, mechanics were not the issue.

I am not experienced with a lot of anime fighting games, most of the fighting games are based on fundamentals like Tekken, SF or Samurai Showdown. However, I still think the main problem of the is simply the oppressive capability of being comboed for 40 seconds without any possible defensive action to do (combo breaker, some kind of tech or reversal in mid combo). And it is the same feeling when guarding. You feel helpless. Definitely making this kind of mechanics and metagame is definitely not healthy. People will get bored of the game and having fun is what every game is all about
@RickySama240 Жыл бұрын
Despite my love for the Dungeon Fighter series, you do speak the truth. The marketing for this game is almost nonexistent. They recently released a roadmap for the game which is nice, but it is such a long gap for each update. To me, Arc System works have been on a somewhat downward trend as of late when it comes to the content and execution of their games. They just seem to put an excessive focus on dumbing things down and simplifying things until any soul get's sucked out. And then they also tend lack general content compared to their past titles. We saw it with BBTag and then with Strive and as DNF Duel showed, it just seems it is intent on continuing.
@bloody4558 Жыл бұрын
I can't... Dude Arc Systems, Didn't develop this game. And if you wanna complain about dumbing down systems, go complain to players. Arc Systems have been going hardcore for years, but scummy casuals kept inventing excuses to not play their games, saying they were too hard to get into. That's why every company out there has been dumbing down their fighting games. When it comes to fighting games, players are almost always at fault for the way games turn out.

I agree with alot of the points but I'll have to disagree with easy inputs being a bad thing. Similar to Project L's philosophy, having easy inputs makes it so that the player can skip fighting the system and go straight to fighting the opponent. While yes it does take some skill out of the game, it makes it alot easier for newer players to go straight to the mind games of fighting games which in my opinion is more important than struggling with inputs.
@luisbo3 Жыл бұрын
This, you still need fundamentals to win against experience players. No amount of “easy inputs” will negate that

@Jojo Yes but you most likely have been playing the game since around launch. There is no content for new players to jump in. Most fighting games have a few thousand players every day. DNF struggles to brake 100 every day. Most players just end up matching against the same players over and over and over again. What it looks like this game could use is an air dash and air block system, as well as things to fix the undercooked mechanics. What if you could spend meter to push someone away during a blockstring so they don't break your shield. The grey health idea in the video with a set amount sounds great. What if command inputs use less resources and single direction inputs used more resources. Like the Z input could use a small amount, but if you have a hard time with it or you need an immediate input, then you press down and the button. In that case more meter is spent and it takes longer to recharge. Just ideas that could go towards fixing this game.

Comparing DNF Duel to SF6 is asinine. SF6 is the 6th mainline entry in a series spanning two decades and isn't even out yet, Capcom is going to push it hard. DNF Duel is a new fighting game IP from a smaller studio than Capcom and 2-3 other fighting games to manage. DNF Duel wasn't given the budget, they didn't believe it would blow up like this. It's better to compare to other anime fighters like Melty or Fighting Layer EX or even MVCI. The only thing this video got right is the lack of dev support. It's clear Strive and GBVS get better treatment, but I dont' like to believe a fighting game needs to be a live service when we have Melee and MvC2 that stand the test of time.

@@bloody4558 it really wasnt the sf6 comparison was good, what people don't get that he was trying to say barebones content in fgs in general, lets look at sf4 for example that game came out in 2008 and it had a great arcade mode with prologues, rival scenes, bonus stages, endings and secret bosses. oh what about virtua fighter's virtua quest, that game came out in 2004 and practically the closet thing to sf6 world tour mode. Now does dnf duel had to do the exact things i just listed? No, however a cookie cutter plain jane arcade mode with boring generic. characters that look like they come from any generic anime will not make the cut.

I think the idea of the video is good but suffers because the comparisons are unfair. First you are comparing a product from an unknown IP against a triple A game from one of the best known companies in the world. Second, the marketing problem is not with ArcSys. All decisions come from the owner of the IP. ArcSys only sells it.
@luxerhusku2609 Жыл бұрын
You can't compare this game to SFV in terms of content. SFV has brand recognition; Everyone in the world knows about Street Fighter, while DFO is mostly known and popular in Asia. Response about the lack of content SFV had were from a lot of casuals who have stood with Street Fighter for years while DNF Duel is brand new fighting game from a niche audience that is appealing abother audience that's even more niche. But I do agree that this game lacks a lot of content. Having a DFO-like game mode in this game for the story mode would have been a great idea as an introduction to get new players into DFO...kinda. I just bought this game recently so I cannot say anything about the mechanics, but I am lloking gorward to give it a try and see if I can stick with it. Mostly because I tend to enjoy a lot of Eighting's fighting games.
